Hij is een 64-jarige Japanse Amerikaan, woont in een bescheiden onderkomen in Californië, houdt van modeltreinen en heet écht Satoshi Nakamoto. Het Amerikaanse weekblad Newsweek claimt de bedenker van de bitcoin na maandenlang onderzoek te hebben opgespoord.
Nakamoto stamt af van de samoerai en is de zoon van een boeddhistische priester. Hij werd in 1949 geboren in de Japanse stad Beppu, en werd opgevoed in armoede en volgens de boeddhistische traditie.
Bitcoin is de eerste en verreweg de belangrijkste virtuele munteenheid. De bitcoin kwam in 2009 voor het eerst in omloop, maar heeft vooral het afgelopen half jaar fors aan populariteit en waarde gewonnen. De totale waarde van alle bitcoins wordt geschat op miljarden. De munt ligt op dit moment hevig onder vuur door digitale overvallen op twee bitcoinbanken. Alle huidige digitale munteenheden zijn gebaseerd op de bitcoin.
Er is jarenlang hevig gespeculeerd over de identiteit van de uitvinder van de digitale valuta. Ene Satoshi Nakamoto publiceerde in 2008 een paper waarin het cryptogeld werd voorgesteld, maar men ging er algemeen van uit dat dat een pseudoniem was. Bekend is dat hij tot 2011 actief was in de bitcoingemeenschap. Daarna is niets meer van hem vernomen. Tot nu.

Ik neig ook naar nee. De bewijsvoering van Newsweek is net wat te dun en zitten wat ongeloofwaardige elementen in (o.a. die politie-agenten die gelijk wisten wie Nakamoto is) en het interview van AP met Dorian Nakamoto geloofwaardig genoeg om het Newsweek-verhaal te debunken.quote:

I have no idea if this person is Satoshi, though it seems increasingly unlikely. However, it doesn't matter either way. If this person is Satoshi, then the funds are a small "thanks" and won't make much of a difference.

Any funds sent after the deadline, will be donated to Dorian at a later date, or a charity of his choice or EFF as above.
After the end of March, I will make my best effort to contact Dorian and deliver the donations in USD. I will document as much of that process as possible to prove the donations were delivered, as long as that documentation does not affect Dorian's privacy.
The blockchain will provide transparency of all funds donated, which will not move from that address until the funds are delivered to the intended recipient based on the rules above.
