Twentieth Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and FOX are sending the production of 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY across the Atlantic to London for a thrilling international adventure, as the new tent-pole event series restarts the clock on the groundbreaking and Emmy Award-winning drama franchise starring Kiefer Sutherland. As previously announced, 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will make its historic debut in the summer of 2014 on FOX.

“‘24’ has always had such a global sensibility,” said Sutherland, who also serves as an executive producer on the event series. “But to be able to tell this intense ‘24’-style story with the beauty of Europe’s history and architecture as the backdrop is going to be fascinating. Hopefully, by the time you’re finished watching an episode, you’ll feel like you’ve been there...on the edge of your seat.”

Co-showrunner and executive producer Evan Katz added, “We wanted the show’s return to be an event, and part of that was putting Jack in a very different context. Four years ago, we left Jack a fugitive from justice and we’re going to pick him up four years later in London.”

Co-showrunner and executive producer Manny Coto continued, “Jack is soon back on the run and it takes us into the streets of London and in places that break new ground for the show. We’ve shot in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Cape Town -- but now we’re in London and Jack’s loose on the streets of Europe, hunted by and hunting bad guys.”

Originally premiering November 6, 2001, “24” was nominated for a total of 73 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Over the course of eight seasons, and a two-hour telefilm, Sutherland garnered seven Emmy Award nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actor – Drama Series. While the series gained global recognition, Sutherland’s portrayal of the legendary character penetrated the American psyche like no other dramatic television character to become part of the cultural lexicon.

We often see TV show premieres delayed, but rarely do we find them actually moving UP the schedule. Such is the case with FOX’s miniseries event, 24: Live Another Day. The 12-episode limited run return of the show was supposed to come back in “summer 2014.” Now, it’s being said that it will premiere in April.

“We’re going to take advantage of the time,” showrunner Howard Gordon said. “The story will be 12 hours over a day, but we’ll take advantage of the fact that we can go from seven o’clock to nine o’clock.”

Good to know it’s sticking with its real-time format, though I did think that 24 full hours tended to make season a bit too prolonged and ridiculous in the later years of the show when they seemed to run out of ideas. Now that they’ve had some time off, hopefully they’ve come up with a kickass shortened plot for Jack Bauer’s return.

It’s exciting we only have to wait until April to see how it’s going to play out. I think a mini-season was a better idea than a real-time two hour movie, and I have a hunch that if this does well, this won’t be the last we see of Jack Bauer on FOX.

A new addition to the upcoming 24 series Live Another Day has been chosen.

Casting directors have picked Michael Wincott to star as an "infamous hacker" alongside previous stars when filming for the new series begins next year.

The actor, who has appeared in movies including The Count of Monte Cristo and Alien: Resurrection, is the first addition to the new series, according to Digital Spy.

He will star alongside Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in the action thriller, set in London this time around.

Fox has already announced filming will take place in the capital as Jack tackles an international crisis in Europe.

Wincott will play Adrian, a charismatic hacker and a leader of the free information movement, according to reports by Entertainment Weekly.

Kim Raver will be returning in her role as Jack's former love Audrey Raines, and William Devane will be back as Audrey's father James Heller.

Mary Lynn Rajskub is also resuming her role as Chloe O'Brian, while Howard Gordon and Jon Cassar will be serving as executive producers for the limited series.

The series is expected to air in 2014 - we can't wait.

Fox's '24' Return Is Different From Film, Leaves Door Open for Reboot

Star Kiefer Sutherland, joined by fellow EPs and co-star Mary Lynn Rajskub, tells reporters where May's 12-episode event finds Jack Bauer and insists it is separate from other plans for the franchise.

Live Another Day, Fox's mini revival of 24, has yet to start filming -- but Fox announced Monday that it will premiere May 5.

And as the return approaches, the network also trotted out stars Kiefer Sutherland and Mary Lynn Rajskub and the series' executive producers at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, where they spoke about the future of the series, how the format will shift with fewer episodes and if they're taking any queues from Homeland.

"If this ends up rebooting the show or causing a film to be made, so be it, but we're very happy about these 12 episodes right now," said Sutherland, who noted Live Another Day is not the same story as the long-delayed 24 feature. "The script for the film is very different. It's an ongoing situation, and there's always an opportunity to do it."

EP Howard Gordon said that the 12-episode run has been much more forgiving to the writers than the original series.

"Doing good stuff, stuff that you are proud of, takes time and effort... the more time you have, the better you can craft each episode," he said. "We have every hope that we are going to maintain the quality we had, but it was a marathon. It was punishing. There's a horizon with this. With 24, you could never see the other side of the stories."

They have had time. Fox first announced the revival in May 2013, and while the London-based shoot hasn't begun, the writers have completed roughly half of the mini season.
"The show still does take place over a 24-hour day even though it is 12 episodes," said EP Manny Coto, who added that certain hours of the day just won't be shown on screen. "The show will be progressing in the same way it always did, and it will add up to 24."

Story-wise, the group did reveal several details about where the new run finds Sutherland's Jack Bauer. "If you remember at the end of season eight, Jack was basically left a fugitive," said Coto. "When we pick up four years later, he is still a fugitive. He's hunted."

He's being hunted by a CIA agent played by Yvonne Strahovski, whose casting broke earlier in the day. "The show will open with that dynamic," added Coto, "A CIA agent hunting Jack. He's not exactly Osama bin Laden, but he's a fugitive of high order."
Those hoping -- or fearing -- parallels to Carrie and Brody on Gordon's Homeland needn't worry. The producers shot down comparisons to TV's other fugitive-agent duo.
"The dynamic here resembles Carrie and Brody in no way at all," said Coto. "It wasn't that situation. When the show airs, you'll see the dynamic between the CIA and Jack... he's more of a fugitive than anything else."

Rajskub's Chloe O'Brian is also not in good graces with the U.S. Her character is no longer working for CTU and playing a Edward Snowden-esque figure working against the government.
"It has become a more complex world than when we started 24," said Gordon, suggestion drones will be another contemporary topic. "This is really about Jack and where he is 12 years later. We're going to introduce some exciting topics."

As for what Live Another Day means for 24's future on Fox, Sutherland said that he's not necessarily on board to star in a reboot. "When I said reboot, I never said I was a part of it," he said, to a few laughs. "There's a lot of fantastic characters. When we started the show, I said that the star was 24, the concept. I still believe that very strongly. If an audience were to latch on to a younger character who was helping my character, that would certainly be an option."
Still, his affection for the series and his alter ego seems to be evident. He mentioned several times that he was worried about screwing up 24's legacy.
"Until we start shooting, everything is kind of intangible and up in the air," said Sutherland. "I'm as anxious as I've been in a long time. I'm nervous."
