De Boer was niet alleen tevreden over Fischer. „Dijks en Veltman moesten ook aan de bak omdat Moisander ziek was en Alderweireld al snel niet verder kon. Ik heb veel vertrouwen in die jongens. Zij hebben dat vertrouwen niet beschaamd. We hebben 80 minuten gedomineerd. We kwamen ook terecht op 4-0. Jammer dat we in de slotfase toch een beetje in paniek raakten. Dan wordt het toch nog 2-4. Misschien zag je toen dat we met heel veel jonge jongens speelden.”

Na het WK U17 kon hij naar een heleboel topclubs en uit die lijst heeft hij bewust voor Ajax gekozen.

Als je dan de taal leert, hier in een gastgezin gaat en een jaar hier speelt als jonge speler dan kan ik mij niet voorstellen dat je dan na een jaar alweer besluit weg te gaan om alsnog bij een topclub te spelen.

Telegraaf journalist Valentijn Driessen meldde zojuist bij Eredivisie Live dat Viktor Fischer zijn contract bij Ajax met twee jaar zal gaan verlengen. Zijn huidige contract loopt to 2014. Volgens De Telegraaf zal de Deen op zeer korte termijn zijn nieuwe contract ondertekenen, mogelijk maandag al.

Maar Fischer beseft zich dat hij er nog lang niet is. 'Ajax heeft veel meer talenten begroet, ook jongens die scoorden. Het gaat er echter niet om één goede wedstrijd te spelen, maar een serie neer te zetten. Anders ben je je plek gewoon weer kwijt.'

'Dit had ik zelf ook niet verwacht', zei Fischer in het IJsseldelta Stadion. Hij trok een vergelijking met zijn eerste optreden voor groot publiek in Nederland, drie maanden geleden tijdens de strijd om de Johan Cruijff Schaal.

Ajax verloor in de Amsterdam Arena met 2-4 van PSV, basisspeler Fischer kon de hooggespannen verwachtingen geen moment waarmaken. 'Het was gewoon heel slecht', blikte hij in Zwolle terug op zijn spel van die zomeravond. 'Ik was erg nerveus, het was voor mij de eerste keer in zo’n groot vol stadion. Die wedstrijd heeft me geen fijne herinneringen opgeleverd.'

Frank de Boer plaatste hem daarna terug in de luwte. Fischer kreeg een simpele boodschap mee: hij moest met zijn kwaliteiten uitblinken bij de A-junioren en tot de betere spelers behoren wanneer hij met Jong Ajax speelde. Dan zou zijn doorbraak in de hoofdmacht vanzelf volgen.

Voor Fischer was dat even slikken. Ambitie en geduld gaan zelden samen, bij het Deense talent is dat niet anders. De mentaliteit heeft Viktor Fischer niet van een vreemde. Zijn opa was Deens voetbal-international, zijn vader jeugdinternational, zijn moeder nationaal badmintonkampioen. Ze leerden hem wat winnen is. En ze bewaakten de geleidelijke opbouw van zijn carrière.

Fischer was amper vijftien jaar toen de eerste internationale topclubs hem wilden vastleggen. Zijn Deense club Midtjylland hoopte dat hij voor Manchester City zou kiezen, met het oog op een riante transfervergoeding. Fischer heeft het nooit overwogen. Ajax-scout John Steen Olsen had hem al enkele jaren in de smiezen en dat was wat hij wilde: naar Amsterdam, net als zijn voorgangers Christian Eriksen en Nicolai Boilesen.

Afgelopen zondag in Zwolle had Fischer een half uur nodig, spelend vanaf de linkerflank, om te bewijzen dat hij is geboren om te scoren. Met een subtiele voetbeweging verdubbelde hij de voorsprong van Ajax, gelanceerd door landgenoot Eriksen. In de tweede helft kopte Fischer een voorzet van Derk Boerrigter tegen de touwen en bereidde hij een doelpunt van Siem de Jong voor.

Drie beslissende acties, verschillend van aard. Het riep de vraag op wat precies zijn specialiteit is. 'Sommige mensen zeggen dat ik een slimme speler ben', vertelde Fischer, die op het punt staat zijn contract bij Ajax tot medio 2016 te verlengen. 'Anderen vinden dat dribbelen mijn specialiteit is. Maar als je het aan mijzelf vraagt, zeg ik: Doelpunten maken, dat kan ik het beste.' Daar weten ze bij PEC Zwolle inmiddels alles van.

Na afloop schoot Morten Olsen hem aan op het Gala en vertelde hem dat hij zich op moest maken voor promotie van de Onder 20 naar de nationale selectie. "Ik was stomverbaasd. Het was fantastisch om dat van Morten te horen. Ik hoop nu vooral dat we winnen en dat ik zoveel mogelijk nieuw ervaringen kan opdoen en ervan leren."
