Shukri Mohammed Ghanem (Arabic: ) (born October 9, 1942) is the former General Secretary of the People's Committee in Libya (prime minister). He held this position from his appointment by Muammar al-Gaddafi in June 2003 until March 2006 when, in the first major government re-shuffle in over a decade, he was reported to have been sacked. His deputy, Baghdadi Mahmudi, took over as prime minister. Since then Ghanem serves as Libya's oil minister.

New footage has emerged from the first moments of the uprising in Libya, showing gunmen - who appear to be Gaddafi loyalists - shooting unarmed protesters dead.
With armed men dragging people from Benghazi's mosque, others were left to die on the streets.
Al Jazeera's Sue Turton reports from the city.
Gaddafi's foreign minister has flown to Britain and is reportedly seeking refuge after abandoning the regime in Libya.
A former spy chief, Koussa is not guaranteed a warm reception in the country, after he was expelled as Libyan ambassador to the UK, having said he would attempt to eliminate political opponents there.

De insurgents lijken niet te kunnen winnen, de regering lijkt niet te (kunnen) verliezen, de buitenlandse aanvallende partijen lijken geen echt nuttige doelwitten meer te kunnen vinden, het Westen gaat de opstandelingen bewapenen en hopen maar dat het goed komt. Ja, ziet er allemaal weer fantastisch uit.

Vanmorgen ook in de Volkskrant. Vanaf Bin Jawad zijn de inwoners een stuk minder vriendelijk naar de rebellen toe. Hieraan ten grondslag ligt een zeer oude grens tussen oost en west, de rebellen worden niet gezien als één van hun. Dat kan verderop nog erg lastig worden.
