Opvallendste afwezigen zijn Of Gods and Men en Uncle Boonmee, al viel het bij die laatste wel een beetje te verwachten. Verrassend dat ze het lef hebben gehad op Dogtooth er tussen te zetten, al lijkt het onwaarschijnlijk dat die de laatste 5 haalt.

Ik gok op Incendies en In a Better World als favorieten. Biutiful is de bekendste, maar eigenlijk had die best tegenvallende reviews, dus daar verwacht ik geen oscar voor.

The King's Speech wint de Producers Guild Award, dat is vrij verrassend en dat betekent dat The Social Network nog niet helemaal zeker is van de oscar, aangezien de PGA ook het preferential ballot systeem van de oscars gebruikt, waarbij de populairste film niet noodzakelijk wint (maar waar 2e en 3e plaatsen ook belangrijk zijn).

Verrassend vind ik:

• Bardem ipv. Duvall of Gosling
• David O. Russell ipv. Nolan
• Al bij al maar weinig nominaties voor Black Swan
• Verrassend veel voor True Grit (10 als ik goed heb geteld), waarvan ik verwacht dat hij er 1 of geen gaat winnen (dus ook meteen de te verwachten grote verliezer op oscardag zelf)
• De aanwezigheid van Dogtooth en Exit Through the Gift Shop. Kwalitatief terecht, maar toch onverwachte keuze van de Academy.

Semi-leuk verhaaltje:

De NY Film Critics delen dus ook hun awards uit en hebben uiteraard hun eigen ceremonie. De MC van dienst dit jaar was de enigszins beruchte Armond White (degenen die RottenTomatoes volgen, zullen hem ongetwijfeld kennen).

Van de tien genomineerde films voor Best Picture er nog drie niet gezien. Maar dat gaat lukken voor eind februari :P
