Ik heb helemaal niets met horror-, maffia- en oorlogsfilms, dat scheelt natuurlijk al.
(behalve de buitenlandse dan, dat is altijd wel jammer aan zulke tournoois, die fietsen zo de finale in omdat de enige die die film gezien heeft er ook op stemt).

Er zijn nog zeven niet-Engelstalige films als ik goed geteld heb. Dat is niet erg veel op 32 films. Ik betwijfel of één daarvan de finale gaat halen. In dit soort toernooien zijn minder bekende films uiteindelijk nog altijd eerder in het nadeel, dan in het voordeel.quote:

Je kunt ze imo niet los zien. Films zijn cultuur, en maken deel uit van een cultureel bewustzijn. Goed beschouwd is Star Wars best wel bagger, de klik die je ermee krijgt is er niet eentje van cinematografie of scripting, maar die van archetypen en verbeelding, en die zijn beiden heel sterk cultureel bepaald. Daarnaast evolueren ze, en als je dat niet in ogenschouw neemt, is een film als Transformers een betere film dan min of meer alles dat voor de jaren negentig is uitgebracht. Betere editing, betere camerstandpunten, een opbouw van het verhaal die precies de juiste snaren bespeelt en uiteraard betere special effects.quote:

Of anders hadden films als Flodder of Commando niet eens mee hoeven doen. Ik snap dan ook niet wat het leuke is van een jaren tachtig film tournooi. Doe gewoon een filmtournooi en filter de resultaten op jarig tachtig ofzo.

Bovendien is dat iets heel anders dan beweren dat een film hier niet thuis hoort omdat het niet over de jaren 80 gaat.

Het leuke van een jaren tachtig toernooi is om te bepalen wat de beste film was van dat decennia. (En om nieuwe films te ontdekken tijdens het toernooi). Als je dat niet snapt, dan begrijp ik dat je heel het nut niet inziet van dit tournooi. En vraag ik me af wat je hier dan sowieso doet. Niet dat je niet welkom bent, alle stemmers zijn welkom, maar ik snap niet waarom je mee zou doen aan iets wat je niet leuk vind of het nut niet van inziet.

Overigens snap ik nog steeds je argumentatie niet waarom FMJ niet en Blade Runner wel in dit toernooi zou moeten zitten. Films zijn cultuur, natuurlijk, maar het gaat om het moment waarop ze gemaakt worden en niet het moment waarover ze gemaakt worden en dus snap ik niet waarom je cultuur hier als argument aanhaalt. FMJ is een film die nu nog steeds gemaakt zou kunnen worden, zij het in een iets andere situatie maar met een behoorlijk gelijksoortig script. Blade Runner daarentegen minder goed, maar die heeft andere kwaliteiten. En Star Wars is een film die met zijn iconische en 'cultige' uiterlijk thema's als vriendschap, goed vs. kwaad, verraad en nog wel e.e.a. behandelt en deze film doe je ook tekort door te zeggen dat de enige binding die je kunt krijgen met de film die van verbeelding en archetypen is. Bij mij is dat laatst juist niet het geval.
Het enige waarmee ik het eens ben, is dat films evolueren. Transformers kunnen sommigen nu als betere film dan Blade Runner zien, terwijl dit nooit het geval kan zijn als je beide films in tijdsperspectief plaatst.
Ik denk dat het te maken heeft met of je je überhaupt kan inleven in de tijdsgeest. Ik ben 25, kwam pas op een leeftijd dat ik films (muv Disney) kon waarderen tegen het eind van de jaren 90. Dat ik zulke films nog eens een decennium later zie helpt ook niet wat dat betreft.quote:

Ik weet genoeg over de vroegere jaren van de filmgeschiedenis om iets ouds als Duck Soup of Rear Window te kunnen waarderen in hun tijdsgeest (tegenwoordig zouden beide films niet meer kunnen in hun huidige vorm, maar ik geniet er desalniettemin van), maar in de jaren '80 heb ik amper inzicht. Een uitspraak als 'voor die tijd is het vul maar in' kan ik weinig mee, omdat ik die tijd niet ken. Bij films als Back to the Future, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, om maar wat te noemen, heb ik da niet nodig om ervan te genieten omdat ze genoeg andere dingen hebben die nu ook nog stand houden. Veel films zullen dus aan me voorbijgaan zolang ze zoveel hangen aan die tijdsgeest en ik daar weinig over weet.
Met de post van Speknek in mijn achterhoofd ga ik hem nog eens kijken, en waarschijnlijk zie ik het dan ook heel anders.
