'We raised the status of Bromo to the highest red alert level at 3.30 pm (4.30pm Singapore time)

Bromo started rumbling on Nov 8 and plumes of white smoke and ash were rising from the crater of the 2,329m peak on Tuesday, according to a government website.
Anyone within three km of the volcano - which lies about 120km south of Surabaya - were urged to move to safer ground.
Unlike Merapi, however, the countryside around Bromo is not densely populated as it lies within the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park.
The volcano last erupted in 2004, killing two people. It is one of Indonesia's most active volcanoes and is a popular spot for tourists and day trippers. It is the youngest cone in the vast Tengger caldera, a 'volcanic complex' which dates back about 820,000 years. -- AFP

Deze toegenomen tot 540 tussen de 08 tot 14 november, en 354 tussen de 15 tot 21 november. Continue tremor werd opgenomen in de vulkaan op 22-23 november. Vandaag de vulkaan uitgestoten een dikke grijze pluim van matige druk tot een hoogte van 300 m boven de kraterrand. Bromo vulkaan trekt veel toeristen en er is het risico van plotselinge freatische explosie. Broom caldera is afgesloten voor het toerisme. Bromo vulkaan is verhoogd naar het hoogste niveau 4 alert op 23 november.

De Bromo is bijna elk jaar wel een keer actief, alleen het uitstoten van puin gebeurt niet zoveel las ik in de Jakarta Post. Het schijnt allemaal mee te vallen, maar je kunt hem even niet bezoeken.

Between midnight and 06:00 local time this morning, 26 tremors were recorded. The amplitude of the tremors is still limited to five millimeters however.
The weather around the volcano is not very good at the moment. The peak of the volcano is covered in a small ash cloud, which causes visual observation to be almost impossible. The tremors measured could very well be a precursor to an eruption of the volcano. The volcano does not have a history of explosive eruptions like Mount Merapi however.
The Center for Volcanology and Disaster Management PVMBG will pick up some of the measuring equipment on the mountain later today to see whether the caldera of the volcano is indeed being bloated, as is suspected now. To get clarity it was decided that a part of the instruments would be picked up for further investigation. Until now, the suspicions could not be confirmed nor rejected.

Mount Bromo is one of Indonesia's 129 active volcanoes with its last eruption occurring in 2004. It usually erupts once a year, but it rarely spews out debris or hot ash.
