Heb Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas & the Kingdom of Fear: allebei juweeltjes . Moet wel bekennen dat ik het hunter-virus pas heb gekregen na het zien van F&LiLV op video (Depp & Del Toro )
Ik moet er trouwens wel bijzeggen dat ik door Thompsons boeken en film (ik heb Fear and Loathing in Gonzovision, trouwens nog niet gezien ) een stuk meer waardering voor de (amerikaanse) drugs & drank-cultuur heb gekregen. Het is toch een heel uhmmm, verfrissende kijk op het leven als je door de ogen van Thompson kijkt.

Ja, heet dat boek niet de electric acid nog iets test? Daarin ben ik HST voor het eerst tegengekomen. En heb nu 'hells angels' van hem gelezen. Is 's wat anders dan die drugs altijd maar. Hij heeft trouwens ook eens een keer een stunt met een politieke partij uitgehaald in California. Maar dat verhaal weet ik niet meer precies. ) Ik denk dat je met die politieke stunt de keer dat hij met de verkiezing voor sherrif van Aspen, Colorado mee deed bedoelt. Hij deed toen voor de lol mee en won bijna ook nog, hij verloor alleen omdat de 'square community' alles op alles heeft gezet om hem niet te laten winnen, ze haalden zelfs mensen uit bejaardentehuizen en ziekenhuizen om ze met rolstoelen naar het stemlokaal te vervoeren

The family opted for cremation until they were advised of the potentially onerous implications of a strictly private, unwitnessed burning of the body of the man who was, after all the President of the United States. Awkward questions might be raised, dark allusions to Hitler and Rasputin. People would be filing lawsuits to get their hands on the dental charts. Long court battles would be inevitable--some with liberal cranks bitching about corpus delicti and habeas corpus and others with giant insurance companies trying not to pay off on his death benefits. Either way, an orgy of greed and duplicity was sure to follow any public hint that Nixon might have somehow faked his own death or been cryogenically transferred to fascist Chinese interests on the Central Asian Mainland.
It would also play into the hands of those millions of self-stigmatized patriots like me who believe these things already.
If the right people had been in charge of Nixon's funeral, his casket would have been launched into one of those open-sewage canals that empty into the ocean just south of Los Angeles.
