quote:
This was Japan's hottest summer in 113 years, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Temperatures from June to August were 1.64 degrees higher than average, and the highest since 1898, the year the weather agency began keeping records.

The national average temperature is calculated based on temperatures in 17 cities, discounting the effect of extreme changes in temperature caused by the heat island or other phenomena.

While June and July saw the mercury climb higher than the average by 1.24 degrees and 1.42 degrees, respectively, August posted temperatures of 2.25 degrees higher, pushing up the three-month average.

Previously, the record hottest summer was in 1994, when it was 1.36 degrees warmer than average.
