bronquote:“It” girl Lady Gaga is famous for two things: her chart topping dance songs and her wacky fashion sense.
Fashionistas have labeled the pop star a style icon and innovator in the fashion world, but Irish singer Roisin Murphy claims the only thing original about Gaga is that she doesn’t wear pants.
Murphy called Gaga a fraud, and says she stole her look.
The former British band Moloko frontwoman and successful solo artist recently told the Daily Mail: "She's copied my style. I met her about a year ago before she got really big and I had no clue that this was all going to happen. She wasn't wearing shoulder pads at the time, and I was."
The Arklow, County Wicklow born singer is furious that the American songstress claims her oversized hats, thigh-high boots and hooded cloaks are all part of her original style.
"Lady Gaga is just a poor imitation of me," Murphy said. "She has copied my style, she took my shoulder pads and all that. Mind you she doesn't wear the bottom half!"

Lady Gaga may be ruling the world, but Grace Jones isn’t a fan.
“I really don’t think of her at all. I go about my business,” Grace told the UK’s Guardian newspaper after the former Studio 54 star and one-time Andy Warhol muse was asked what she thought of the modern day headline grabbing pop singer.
The singer/model/actress and all around legend told the newspaper that the reports were true – Gaga had asked to collaborate with her — but Grace turned Gaga down.
“Yes, she did, but I said no,” Grace said. “I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually.”
Grace, who has been hitting the stage across Europe recently in a host of eye-catching, outlandish stage outfits, was asked if she thinks Gaga borrowed style ideas from the icon, something the legend didn’t say no to.
“Well, you know, I’ve seen some things she’s worn that I’ve worn, and that does kind of piss me off,” she told the newspaper.
Grace, who is in her 60’s and was once a Bond girl, added that she likely wouldn’t be checking Gaga out in concert.
“I wouldn’t go to see her,” she said.

Madonna has claimed that she likes Lady GaGa because she has the ‘It Factor’.
The Queen of Pop told contactmusic.com: "When I saw her, she didn't have a lot of money for her production. She had holes in her fishnets, and there were mistakes everywhere. It was kind of a mess, but I can see that she has that 'It Factor'. It's nice to see that at a raw stage,"
Madge added: "I see myself in Lady GaGa”
Lady GaGa recently stated that she was ‘thrilled’ that the Celebration singer attended one of her concerts in New York with daughter Lourdes.

Lady Gaga has stated that she is "very into fashion" and that it is "everything" to her. She considers Donatella Versace her muse. Lady Gaga has her own creative production team called the Haus of Gaga, which she handles personally. The team creates many of her clothes, stage props, and hairdos. Her love of fashion came from her mother, who she stated was "always very well kept and beautiful." She said that: "When I'm writing music, I'm thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. It's all about everything altogether—performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it's everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us." The Global Language Monitor named 'Lady Gaga' as the Top Fashion Buzzword with her trademark 'no pants' coming in at No. 3. Entertainment Weekly put her outfits on its end of the decade, "best-of" list, saying, "Whether it's a dress made of Muppets or strategically placed bubbles, Gaga's outré ensembles brought performance art into the mainstream. Rob Fusari's production company seeks more than $30 million from Lady Gaga's company. Fusari alleges that he discovered and named the star.
The producer who claims credit for transforming a Manhattan "guidette" into Lady Gaga is suing to get a chunk of "The Fame" singer's fortune.
Ex-lover Rob Fusari contends two companies owned by the mega-star owe him more than $30 million after he came up with the Lady Gaga name and co-wrote her hits "Paparazzi" and "Disco Heaven."
"It's an age-old story in the music business," said Robert Meloni, a lawyer for Fusari. "You become famous and you turn on the person who discovered you."
The wild-styled singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, was introduced to Fusari in March 2006 by a singer who knew he was looking for a female rocker with "garage band chops."
Wendy Starland put Germanotta on the phone with Fusari after seeing her perform at The Cutting Room because she fit his vision for "an all-girl version of The Strokes," the suit says.
Within a day, Germanotta was on a bus from the Port Authority terminal to Fusari's 150 Studios in Parsippany, N.J.
"Fusari was expecting someone a little more grunge-rocker than the young Italian girl 'guidette' that arrived at his doorstep and was worried that he had made a mistake," the suit says.
"Fusari then asked her to play one of her songs on the studio piano and within seconds realized that Germanotta had star potential. The trick would be coaxing it out of her."
The producer, who collaborated with Destiny's Child on "Bootylicious" and with Will Smith on "Wild Wild," contends he reshaped Germanotta's song-writing skills and convinced her to add dance beats to her songs.
He also came up with the unique Lady Gaga name after playing Queen's "Radio Gaga" for her daily when she entered the studio.
"One day when Fusari addressed a cell phone text to Germanotta under the moniker 'Radio Gaga' his cell phone's spell check converted 'Radio' to 'Lady'," the suit says. "Germanotta loved it and 'Lady Gaga' was born."
Fusari is seeking a 20% cut from a 2006 contract he says he signed with Gaga's Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.
"Would she have found another Rob Fusari? Maybe," Meloni said. "Would she just have gone on to playing in small clubs? Maybe. But the fact is that he brought her to a certain level."
A representative for Lady Gaga, a dropout from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, declined comment.
Fusari and Germanotta were at one time romantically linked, but broke up in January 2007, the suit says.
In the introduction to the court papers, Fusari casts Lady Gaga as "a woman scorned."
"All business is personal," the suit says. "When those personal relationships evolve into romantic entanglements, any corresponding business relationship usually follows the same trajectory so that when one crashes they all burn.
This is what happened here."

quote:'I made Lady GaGa': the girl who changed Stefani Germanotta's life with a phone call
By Annette Witheridge - exclusive 13/03/2010
Not so very long ago, college drop-out Stefani Germanotta was a dumpy brunette in a back-room music industry office job.
And if it wasn’t for Wendy Starland, millions of us wouldn’t know her today as the outrageous platinum blonde phenomenon that is Lady GaGa.
After putting aside her studies to make it in the music business, she promised her dad she’d go back to university if she hadn’t succeeded after a year.
Then, just a week before the deadline, she bumped into talent scout Wendy who transformed her from the jeans-wearing frontwoman of a nerdy grunge band into the chart-topping diva she is today.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, singer Wendy reveals how she introduced Stefani to music industry contacts and set her on the track to superstardom.
For 18 months, she helped the wannabe write material and revamp her look. She even made her bleach her hair so she wasn’t mistaken for Amy Winehouse.
And when her protege, now 23, hit the big time she wrote Wendy a gushing – and funny – email thanking her mentor.
Triple Brit Award winner GaGa wrote: “;I will proclaim my loyalty and eternal thanks to the incredible Wendy Starland for discovering me. Wendy Starland changed my life. Wendy was the angel that fulfilled my promise to my father one year before, on my 19th birthday.
“Without Wendy’s remarkable ears, hearing through my rough-around-the-edges college band, the eyes to see through 15 pounds I would lose over the next three months, and the heart to reveal to me one of her most credible contacts, I may never have become Lady GaGa.
“There’s no PHD needed to understand the magnitude of what this woman did for my life, and I simply cannot refuse her my infinite gratitude. Peace, Love, and Disco Dancing, Lady GaGa a.k.a always just Stefani to Wendy.”
Wendy, 28, who has worked with Moby, Sean Paul, Grandmaster Flash, Wu Tang Clan and The Beat says: “We first met when she was working as an intern at Famous Music Publishing. I came in to see her boss, Irwin Robinson, and she told me she was a fan of my music. Apparently she had my song Stolen Love on constantly.
“She was sweet but hardly stood out in a crowd. She wore conservative office clothes. It was her job to photocopy press releases and she was enthusiastic. Hardly the rebellious teen.
“A multi-platinum record producer I was working with, Rob Fusari, who’d worked with Beyonce and Jessica Simpson, asked me to find him a new girl singer. He wanted someone edgy, who wouldn’t have been out of place in The Strokes.
“I looked high and low for eight months. Then one night I was performing at the Cutting Room, a New York club, and Stefani came rushing up to me. She was on the same bill and asked if I remembered her during soundcheck. She was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Her band was awful, in my opinion. They were college boys, and she seemed to be modelling herself after Fiona Apple.
“Yet when Stefani started singing I was hooked. She had incredible confidence, she carried the crowd even though, in my opinion, the songs were bad.
“I grabbed hold of her afterwards and said I was going to ‘change her life forever’. We went outside and phoned Rob, who asked why I was waking him up.
“He asked her name, then said it was way too much of a mouthful and asked me not to waste his time. But I put Stefani on the phone and he agreed to meet her.”
Rob was, to put it mildly, underwhelmed. He recalls: “She was a little overweight. She had on leggings and some strange cut-up shirt, a hat that looked like it was out of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ — I thought, ‘That could be her. But I hope it’s not.’ ”
But when Stefani sang for him, he says: ”I’m telling you, it was, like, 10 seconds in and I’m texting my management. I’m like, I need a contract — immediately.”
Wendy was, of course, delighted. “Stefani – and she will always be Stefani to me – was thrilled. I told her we’d write new songs together, we’d change her name and her look. She was 19 and had promised her dad Joe she would return to college if she hadn’t made it by her 20th birthday. That deadline was just one week away and if I hadn’t seen her she probably would have done just that.
“We spent about a year and a half or so working together, and bit by bit she evolved. The name was the result of brainstorming. We thrashed out lots of different ideas and came up with GaGa from the Queen hit Radio Gaga.
“Then she started changing her clothes and make-up. For a while, she wore lots of black eyeliner. But after performing at Lollapalooza she kept getting mistaken for Amy Winehouse, so that’s when we decided she should go blonde.
“She dumped the boy band. The music business is tough and Stefani was happy to leave her past behind, including her then boyfriend.
“I was there when she met her big love Luc Carl. He was a tall, good looking barman and rock drummer. Stefani loved the attention he caused. Then she met Lady Starlight and they started performing together. Starlight spun discs, Stefani sang along. Gradually the GaGa look started to come together.
“Lots of people claim to have discovered GaGa and Starlight certainly added her magic. But I spotted her first. In this business it really is all about connections and who you know.
“Rob told her he would not have signed her because he didn’t see her potential after watching a video tape of her performance the night I discovered her. She claims she was probably 15lbs overweight and in my opinion, quite ordinary to look at. But you had to look beyond that. Gradually she evolved.
“She was always very focused. Now I’ve read she’s told stories about her drug taking rebellion, but that was not my experience with her.
“When we met she was sitting behind a desk. As I see it, a rebellious person wouldn’t show up on time for work every day. Stefani was a typical privately educated, New York City kid.
“She did an internship, then she went into the studio, where we worked hard to create Lady GaGa. If she was in the midst of a druggie rebellion, I don’t believe she could have done that.”
“We got her a record deal with Island/Def Jam but for whatever reasons she was dropped very quickly. Then Interscope signed her up and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Wendy, about to release her new single Love Will Come To You, hasn’t seen GaGa since she hit the big time but says that is what it’s like in the music industry.
“It’s a tough business and once you make it, every second of your day is tightly scheduled,” she explains. “We wrote many songs together. None of
them has yet appeared on her albums but I hope they do one day.
“I’m excited for the future. I have a new single out, and I’m appearing at The Imagine Music & Art festival over the summer with an expected audience of over one million.

Christina Aguilera has confirmed that her latest video features several deliberate references to Madonna.
The singer, who took to the stage with Madonna and Britney Spears for a notorious performance at the 2003 VMAs, used her 'Not Myself Tonight' clip to salute the pop queen's legacy.
'One of my favourite videos ever is 'Express Yourself' by Madonna which came across as really strong and empowering which I always try to incorporate through my expression of sexuality,' Aguilera said.
'I love the direct reference I made to Madonna with the eye glass moment and the smoke and stairs. I was paying tribute to a very strong woman who has paved the way before.'
