In Summer ‘07, Free Keys teamed up with Indie Quartet “The Yellow Dogs” for a couple of strictly forbidden underground gigs in Tehran. They sound-proofed then transformed a parking lot in west Tehran to a venue of roughly 150, complete with a stage and pyrotechnics. Two gigs were thrown in that venue before the bands had to abandon it so as to avoid arrest. The two shows however, both sold out and were extremely successful. Free Keys and Yellow Dogs are now among the few bands who had performed illegal shows right under the government’s nose and got away with it to tell the tale.
The Band released its untitled EP (later called “THE EP” by the band) in March 2008. It was made available for free download on the band’s myspace page. Shortly after the EP the band went on a hiatus.
But the turn of the decade also turned a new page in Free Keys' history. The hiatus ended when Arya Transitioned from Bass to Guitar and Keyboard and AK (ex-Vandida) and Anthony (ex-Sediment) joined the band in 2010. They are now recording their debut album in Pune, India.

The rumors about him include everything from injecting himself with female hormones so he'll grow breasts on tour, to smearing himself with blueberry yogurt before shows, to having a doctor's prescription to be in a band at all times as the only effective means of dealing with his variety of mental illnesses. Is any of it true? Who knows and who cares. It makes for great mythology, especially as he's also notoriously media-shy which allows every crackpot theory to snowball wildly out of control, making him even more fascinating.
However, even with all that, Tool fans are likely to be seriously surprised by Keenan's behavior in a documentary to be released this summer. Turns out, in addition to being a metal god and a Garbo-esque mystery, Keenan is now operating a winery.

Blood Into Wine, the documentary about Maynard James Keenan (front man for Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle) and vineyard partner Eric Glomski’s mission to bring notoriety and credibility to Northern Arizona’s burgeoning wine industry, screens at The Flicks on July 11.
FilmCritic.com called the film: "a rock 'n roll version of Sideways,” the Los Angeles Times said “The frisson between his [Keenan] well-crafted personal mystique and the way the film presents him as a dedicated new winemaker learning his craft is intriguing” and the San Diego CityBeat added: "It’s a behind-the-curtain peek at a notoriously publicity-shy celebrity, but more than that, it’s a fascinating look at pioneers braving the Arizona elements to create drinkable art."

Hopelijk gaan ze met hun nieuw album niet verder waar ze met 10000 days gestopt zijn. Ik vond deze echt minder dan Aenema and Lateralis. Trouwens Mastodon, voorprogramma TOOL 2006, heeft halverwege 2009 een waanzinnig goed album (Crack the Skye) uitgebracht. Het is wat anders dan hun eerdere werk, je hoort duidelijk dat ze iets mee hebben gekregen van hun TOOL tour!

Anyway: ik vind 10,000 days niet perse minder, staan weer juweeltjes op, alleen de stap ten opzichte van de voorgangers was minder groot, ben wel benieuwd wat ze nu zullen gaan doen.

Ben ik met TAV74 eens maar toch klonk het na de eerste keren luisteren toch weer heel wat anders dan anders.
Mastodon is ook geweldig. En als je die aankan dan moet je ook ISIS proberen. Andere koek maar wel dezelfde vindrijkheid als TOOL en Mastodon. Vooral geweldig om wat meer Justin Chanchelor-achtige bassounds te horen, luister maar: , zo fijn.

Daar zat The Grudge en Reflection/Disposition/Triad standaard in, die zou ik ook graag weer eens live horen. Mooi, third eye kan ik niet vaak genoeg horen. Hoop dat ze een beetje vlot deze kant op komen, of ik een beetje vlot die kant op kan gaan

Helemaal als ze dan dingen als Third Eye en Patient weer eens uit de kast trekken. Binnenkort toch maar eens de LP van Lateralus aanschaffen, die staat al lang op m'n verlanglijstje
