Zo kan een virus sneller muteren in dichtbevolkte gebieden, waar het meer kans krijgt om met andere virussen te fuseren. Meer kans op mutaties is meer kans op een dodelijke variant.

Er zijn al een aantal gevallen bekend van mensen die de ziekte hebben opgelopen en niet in Mexico zijn geweest, maar waarvan een vriend of vriendin dat wel is geweest.
Dat is denk ik het meest zorgwekkende nieuws.....

Als het virus al weken in een stad als Mexico rondgaat dan moeten er toch vele duizenden besmet inmiddels zijn. Ofwel heel veel mensen die het bij zich dragen maar niet ziek worden omdat hun immuumsysteem het oppakt en verslaat.
En elke griepepidemie eist wel een aantal slachtoffers. Niet door die griep zelf maar die griep is dan het extra duwtje bij een longonsteking of zo. Een Mexicaanse lijmsnuiver zal hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet zijn dagelijks portie groenten en fruit nemen. Beetje griepvirus velt zo'n mannetje zonder te knipperen.
Bijna elk jaar hoor ik over oude mensjes die een griepprik moeten halen omdat ze anders dood kunnen gaan. Dat doet griep blijkbaar. Niet raar dus dat in een miljoenenstad een paar doden zijn gevallen als daar een griepepidemie heerst. Daarmee wordt dit virus niet ineens het killervirus wat er wordt gesuggereerd.
Het schokkende van dit virus is bij mij ook nog niet doorgedrongen.
Ik heb niks te doen. Ik zal eens kijken of ik nu minder hard kan falen met pandemic 2. Gisteren kreeg ik niet eens doden

Robinson, a professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, a pediatrician at the Stollery Children's Hospital, and lead author of the study, which was published recently in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases. Swine flu in humans is "under-recognized in Canada, but it has the capacity to become a problem," she added. "Early recognition that swine strains are becoming more virulent might expedite both implementation of ideal infection control precautions for symptomatic cases and vaccine development."
Rather than workers on livestock farms being responsible for recognizing their own flu symptoms, there should be a public health program in place that leads to specific measures if an unexpected number or severity of cases of flu-like illness occur in swine workers. No health program targeting swine workers currently exists, Robinson notes.
