Er gingen al langer geruchten dat het lange dienstverband van de gitarist bij de Peppers ten einde liep. Frusciante schrijft op zijn website dat zijn muzikale interesses niet langer bij het maken van muziek in een rockband liggen. Hij gaat solo verder.

De gitarist vierde grote successen met de band. Hij kwam er in 1988 op 18-jarige leeftijd bij, maar raakte na het overweldigende succes van Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) verslaafd aan drugs en stapte uit de band. Na een langdurig afkickproces kwam hij er in 1999 weer bij voor het album Californication. In 2003 zette het Amerikaanse muziekblad Rolling Stone hem op nummer achttien op de lijst van beste gitaristen ooit.

De rest van de Red Hot Chili Peppers zijn inmiddels druk bezig met het opnemen van een nieuw album. Wie Frusciante gaat vervangen is nog niet bekend.

Ongeveer dertigduizend mensen brachten hun stem uit op de internetpoll van de BBC. De voormalige Guns N' Roses-gitarist Slash staat op de tweede plaats, gevolgd door Muse-gitarist Matt Bellamy.

Frusciante bracht vorig jaar zijn tiende solo-album uit en vormt nu samen met Duran Duran-bassist John Taylor en zangeres Nicole Turley de band Swahili Blonde.

One month ago, John was included in BBC Radio 6's poll titled The Axe Factor, with the goal to determine who is the best guitarist of the last 30 years (1980-2010). 40 guitarists were considered for this title and amongst them, there were many of them from UK, which could have been one of the determining factors for picking the winner, given that the poll was mainly targeted at the UK citizens and that the most of the 6 Music's favorites were from their homeland as well.

The results of the poll were announced on the evening of 09th April in a special show presented by Steve Lamacq and the top five is:

John Frusciante - 13,9% of overall votes
Slash - 10,3%
Matt Bellamy - 8,6%
Johnny Marr - 6,8%
Tom Morello - 5%

Swahili Blonde’s Man Meat – tracklisting, credits, album art

Swahili Blonde have just revealed the album art and credits for their upcoming album, Man Meat, which will be published sometime this year. As expected, John is playing guitar on all tracks, but he is not involved in producing duties, as it was actually said last year, when Nicole Turkey was interviewed for the Tom Tom magazine. However, John is credited for writing of Tigress Ritual, alongside Duran Duran's John Taylor, while Turley was in charge of mixing and producing all the songs. The album's mastering was done by another big name - Aaron Funk aka Venetian Snares aka the second half of Speed Dealer Moms.

Here's a little round-up of all the recent news regarding Swahili Blonde.

The release of the Elixor Fixor vinyl 7" single has been postponed and, instead of next Tuesday, 06th April, it will be out on Tuesday, the 27th of April. Once again, you can obtain it here (they don't send outside of USA) or you can win one on this website if you're feeling creative.

Last week, another of the songs off the album, was published in a digital single format - Dr. Teeth. You can preview it in the player below or get it from either Amazon or iTunes. It's by far, the most interesting piece off the future album, a very cool instrumental with a guitar that peeks out unlike on the other songs, so consider that a recommendation. For all of you audiophiles, a FLAC version of the song will be available in nine days on Boomkat.

And, finally, the long-awaited Man Meat LP, the cover art of which was uploaded about a month ago, has a release date as well and it is 06th July 2010. Once again, it's available only in USA and you can preorder it in the Saki store. Information on how to obtain it elsewhere will follow shortly.
