Guitarist Noel, 41, laid bare the breakdown by confessing as he jetted into Madrid on Thursday: "I haven’t spoken to my brother for two years." Last night a source close to the band, currently in France ahead of a two-month tour of the Far East, said: "Noel and Liam have always had a stormy relationship but things have never been this bad. They can’t stand being in the same room together, let alone speaking to each other Noel has already talked about leaving Liam and going solo when the current tour ends but we’re worried things won’t get that far. They’ve been on the road since last August and the stress of being in each other’s pockets is definitely taking its toll." The source added: "Sometimes I wish they’d just have a good punch-up like in the old days. Watching two grown-up men talking to each other through their roadies when they have to communicate is pretty ridiculous. It’s a wonder they manage to perform so well when they’re on stage. This looks like the last tour."

An insider at the Gallaghers' hotel in Spain said: "Noel and Liam looked as if they were going out of their way to avoid each other. "The only time I saw them together was when they checked in and they seemed more like arch-enemies than brothers from the look on their faces. They didn’t even get the lift up to their rooms together and they ordered their room service separately so they obviously ate apart. They were supposed to see some music journalists together but even that didn't happen because Liam never showed."

Noel broke Liam's foot after a fight with a cricket bat during recording sessions for their second album (What's The Story) Morning Glory? The pair fought again in Barcelona in 2000 when Liam, 36, insulted his brother's then wife Meg Mathews. Noel declared he was quitting overseas touring but returned for an Oasis gig in Dublin later the same year and shook Liam’s hand at the end of the performance. He recently declared all he cared about is whether Liam can still sing.

The split fears come as Oasis prepare for their first trip to China next month. They are then due to play in Manchester, Sunderland, Cardiff and Edinburgh in June before gigs at Coventry and London in July.

On Wednesday night, Oasis were voted winners of the 'Best British Band' and 'Best Blog' (for Noel's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere') by the readers of NME.

Oasis were unable to attend the awards as they're currently touring in Europe so Russell Brand presented Noel with the award for 'Best British Band' during a recent trip to the band's Big Brother Recordings office. UK viewers can see the clip on Channel 4 this Friday (27th February) at 23:35.

The Best Dressed Award was not to be and I guess Mr. Obama was arguably more deserving of Hero status. But all in all, a tidy little haul, I think.
