1843 Jolie Holland - Mexico City

Jack and Edie lying across my bed
Flying high like the spirits of the dead
The living and the dead
The living and the dead

Our Lady of Sorrows and the long dark night
How many candles could I light
For the living and the dead
The living and the dead

What's that black smoke rising Jack
Is the world on fire
What's that distant singing
Is it a heavenly choir
The living and the dead
The living and the dead

I think about you Jack, watching the tv
And drinking booze
Shame on you, shame on me
But how can we help it
There was no where else to go
I sent Julie and Billy out on that long hard road
on that long hard road
on that long hard road

I'm just back from Mexico city
I came back north to Texas
To rest my weary head
My true love is fresh from the battle field

Sewing up the dying and carting off the dead
My baby don't stand for no fighting
Amongst the living and the dead

What's that black smoke rising Jack
Is the world on fire
What's that distant singing
Is it a heavenly choir

The living and the dead
The living and the dead
The living and the dead
The living and the dead
The living and the dead
The living and the dead

1842 Dar Williams - Are You Out There?

Perhaps I am a miscreation,
No one knows the truth,
There is no future here.
And you're the deejay speaks to my insomnia
And laughs at all I have to fear,
Laughs at all I had to fear.
You always play the madmen poets,
Vinyl vision grungy bands,
You never know who's still awake,
You never know who understands and

Are you out there, can you hear this,
Jimmy Olsen, Johnny Memphis
I was out here listening all the time,
And though the static walls surround me
You were out there, and you found me,
I was out here listening all the time.

Last night we drank in parking lots,
And why do we drink, I guess we do it cause.
And when I turned your station on,
You sounded more familiar than that party was,
You were more familiar than that party,
It's the first time I stayed up all night,
It's getting light, I hear the birds,
I'm driving home on empty streets,
I think I put my shirt on backwards,

Are you out there, can you hear this,
Jimmy Olsen, Johnny Memphis
I was out here listening all the time,
And though the static walls surround me
You were out there, and you found me,
I was out here listening all the time.

What's the future, who will choose it,
Politics of love and music,
Underdogs who turn the table,
Indie verus major labels,
There's so much to see through,
Like our parents do more drugs than we do.

Corporate parents, corporate town,
I know every TV set that has them lit.
They preach that I should save the world
They pray that I won't do a better job of it,
Pray that I won't do a better job,
So tonight I turn your station on,
Just so I'd be understood,
Instead another voice said I was just too late and just no good.

Calling Olsen, calling Memphis,
I am calling, can you hear this?
I was out here listening all the time.
And I will write this down and then
I will not be alone again, yeah,
I was out here listening,
I was out here listening,
I am out here listening all the time.

1841 Pavement - Gold Soundz

Go back to those gold soundz
And keep my advent to your self
Because it's nothing I don't like
Is it a crisis or a boring change?
When it's central, so essential,
It has a nice ring when you laugh
At the low life opinions
And they're coming to the chorus now...
I keep your address to myself cause we need secrets
We need secrets crets crets crets crets crets back right now

Because I never wanna make you feel
That you're social
Never ignorant soul
Believe in what you wanna do
And do you think that is a major flaw
When they rise up in the falling rain
And if you stay around with your knuckles ground down
The trials over, weapons found
Keep my address to myself because its secret
Cuz its secret cret cret cret [etc.]... back right now

So drunk in the august sun
And you're the kind of girl I like
Because you're empty and I'm empty
And you can never quarantine the past
Did you remember in december
That I won't eat you when I'm gone
And if I go there, I won't stay there
Because I'm sitting here too long
I've been sitting here too long
And I've been wasted
Advocating that word for the last word
Last words come up all you've got to waste

1840 Status Quo - Accident Prone

Chorus:
I'm a lay-by lover
And you're just another
Who just wants to hit an run
Now you're on your own
Because I'm accident prone
And I hope that you have your fun

They say the devil loves his own
And lady you just go to roll
He drives your modus-operandi
Well lady you don't get this soul
What you call love I can't take no more
Go knock on someone else's door

Chorus

Because you specialise in
your kind of lies
Lady you just hit and run

I just wanna say, you
keep driving that way
And one day you'll be undone

I tried to love you my way
But lady you just wouldn't slow down
You drove a right on through me
When other guys came round
What you call love
wouldn't give to a stray
I wouldn't threat a dog that way

Chorus

I just wanna say, you
keep driving that way
And one day you'll be undone

One day you'll have to slow down
And lady it could be too late
You keep on acceleratin'
And lady I can see your face
No-one wants a secon-hand car
They know has been pushed so far

Chorus

You are dragging me down
with this riding around
And one day you'll be undone

1839 The Shirts - Laugh and Walk Away

The Shirts werden in 1975 opgericht in New York.

Het eerste, titelloze, album bevat o.a. de hit Tell Me Your Plans.

Men is zichzelf.

One more thing before I go
One more thing I'll ask you Lord
You may need a murderer
Someone to do your dirty work

Don't act so innocent
I've seen you pound your fist into the earth
And I've read your book
It seems that you could use another fool
Well I'm cruel
And I look right through

You must have more important things to do
So if you need a murderer
Someone to do your dirty work

1835 Moondog - Stamping Ground

Machines were mice and men were lions once upon a time.
But now that it's the opposite it's twice upon a time.

1833 Mr.President - Coco Jambo

1831 Ricky Koole - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

1830 Peter Wolf - Nothing But The Wheel

Well Im Past the boulevard
out here underneath the stars I been
Flying past the houses farms and fields

Leaving all I know back home
rushing through the cold night air
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheel

Staying clear of the interstate
Im seeking out those old two lanes
Trying to explain the way I feel

Till al at once Its half past three
and Its down to the trucks and me
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheel

Ive been trying to drive you.. oooh off my mind
Lately that way maybe I can leave it all behind
And 41 goes on and on and the lights go winding in the dawn
And the skies the color now of polished steel..and the
Only thing I know for sure Is you dont want me anymore and Im
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheelall-right come on

Ive been trying to drive you ohh Of my mind
Lately that way maybe I can leave it all behind..and the
Only thing I know for sure Is you dont want me anymore and Im
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheel
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheel

And 41 drags on and on
and the lights go winding in the dawn
And im holding on in the cold night air
im holdin on holdin on

Only thing I know for sure
Is you dont want me anymore and Im
And Im holding onto nothing but the wheel

gettin down ol 41
And 41 drags on and on
and the lights go winding in the dawn
And im holding on in the cold night air im holdin on holdin on

Only thing I know for sure

1829 Pussycat - Mississippi

Pussycat was a Dutch country and pop music group driven by the three Kowalczyk sisters: Tonny, Betty and Marianne. Other members of the band were Lou Wille, Tonny's husband, Theo Wetzels, Theo Coumans and John Theunissen. The three girls had been telephone operators in Limburg while John and the two Theos were in a group called Scum. Lou Wille played in a group called "Ricky Rendall and His Centurions" until he married Tonny and created the group "Sweet Reaction" that eventually became 'Pussycat'

In 1976 they scored a hit with the song "Mississippi", which climbed to number one in the UK Singles Chart. It was later followed by "Smile" in 1976, and "Hey Joe" in 1978. Others hits were "If You Ever Come to Amsterdam", "Georgie", "Wet Day in September", "My Broken Souvenirs". They were so successful that they were dubbed "The Bee Gees' Dutch Sisters".

Where you can hear a country song song from far
and someone plays the honky-tonk guitar
Where all the lights will go out one by one
the people join the sun
and the wind takes it away

Where the Mississippi falls down to the sea
and lovers found the place thhhey'd like to be
how many times before the song was ending
love and understanding
everywhere around

Mississippi, I'll remember you
whenever I should go away
I'll be longing for the day
that I will be returning again
Mississippi, you'll be on my mind
everytime I hear this song
Mississippi roll along
until the end of time

Now the country song for ever lost its soul
when the guitar player turned to rock & roll
and everytime when the summernights are falling
I will always be calling dreams of yesterday

1828 Tom Jones - Green Green Grass of Home

Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE[1][2] (born 7 June 1940), known by his stage name Tom Jones, is a Welsh singer-songwriter, particularly noted for his powerful voice and wide vocal range. He was born in Trefforest, Pontypridd, near Cardiff in Wales. Since 1965, Jones has sold over 100 million records.[3]

"Green Green Grass Of Home"

The old home town looks the same as I step down from the train,
and there to meet me is my Mama and Papa.
Down the road I look and there runs Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
The old house is still standing tho' the paint is cracked and dry,
and there's that old oak tree I used to play on.

Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary, hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.

[spoken:]

Then I awake and look around me, at four grey wall surround me
and I realize that I was only dreaming.
For there's a guard and there's a sad old padre -
arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak.
Again I touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to see me in the shade of that old oak tree
as they lay me neath the green, green grass of home.

Are you ready to party
Here we go

Almost heaven West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah river
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains blowin' like a breeze

Country roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home country roads

All my memories gather round her
Miner's lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine teardrops in my eyes

Country roads take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home country roads

I hear a voice in the morning how she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
Drivin' down the road I get the feelin'
That I should been home yesterday yesterday

(Here we go)
Country roads take me home
(Take me home)
To the place I belong
(Let me hear you sing)
West Virginia mountain momma
Take me home country roads
(Here we go here we go)

Country roads take me home
To the place I belong

Take me home country roads

1825 Kate Nash - Foundations

Thursday night, everything's fine
Except you've got that look in your eye
When I'm tellin' a story and you find it boring
You're thinking of something to say
You'll go along with it, then drop it
And humiliate me in front of our friends

Then I'll use that voice that you find annoyin'
And say something like:
"Yeah, intelligent input, darlin'
Why don't you just have another beer, then?"
Then you'll call me a bitch
And everyone we're with will be embarrassed
And I won't give a shit

My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can't
And every time we fight, I know it's not right
Every time that you're upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can't

You said I must eat so many lemons 'cause I am so bitter
I said:
"I'd rather be with your friends, mate
'Cause they are much fitter,"
Yes, it was childish and you got aggressive
And I must admit that I was a bit scared
But it gives me thrills to wind you up

My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can't
And every time we fight, I know it's not right
Every time that you're upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can't

Your face is pasty 'cause you've gone and got so wasted
What a surprise
Don't want to look at your face 'cause it's makin' me sick
You've gone and got sick on my trainers
I only got these yesterday
Oh my gosh, I cannot be bothered with this

Well, I'll leave you there till the mornin'
And I purposely won't turn the heating on
And dear God, I hope I'm not stuck with this one

My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can't
And every time we fight, I know it's not right
Every time that you're upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can't

My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can't
And every time we fight, I know it's not right
Every time that you're upset and I smile

1824 Pet Shop Boys - Domino Dancing

(all day, all day)

I dont know why, I dont know how
I thought I loved you, but Im not sure now
Ive seen you look at strangers too many times
A love-you-once is of a, a different kind

Remember when we felt the sun
A love like paradise, how hot it burned
A threat of distant thunder, the sky was red
And when you walked, you always - turned every head

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing
(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing

I thought that when we fought I was to blame
But now I know you play a different game
Ive watched you dance with danger, still wanting more
Add another number to the score

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing
(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing

When you look around you wonder
Do you play to win?
Or are you just a bad loser?

(all day, all day)
(all day, all day)

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day, domino dancing)

(all day, all day)
(all day, all day)

I dont know why, I dont know how
Id thought I loved you, but Im not sure now
I hear the thunder crashing, the sky is dark
And now a storm is breaking within my heart

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing
(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day, domino dancing)

(all day, all daeheheheheheheh)
(all day, all daeheheheheheheh)

(all day, all day)
(all day, all day)
(domino dancing)

(all day, all day)
(all day, all day)

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day, domino dancing)

(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day) domino dancing
(all day, all day) watch them all fall down
(all day, all day)

1822 Sukilove - Talking In The Dark

There's no sun, relax at night.
You don't have to talk, it's alright.
Remember when the sky was dim ?
You'd parade and I would swim...I miss talking in the dark with you.

Have no fear, I'm always near.
I've been mumbling to myself for years.
Remember when those days were slow,
shop around but don't let go...I miss talking in the dark with you.

And every single winter we just freeze away,
we're like sumo wrestlers on a violent ballet.
And in summer, all the girls sing,
in summer, all the girls sing : "Shalalalaa !"

No blue moon, no bluebird song,
would ever make me do you wrong.
So don't be down, just have a rest,
everyone round you is blessed...I miss talking in the dark with you.

Don't be shy and have a run.
How does it feel to have some fun ?
Remember when those nights went slow,
shop around but don't let go...I miss talking in the dark with you.

And every single winter we just freeze away,
we're like sumo wrestlers on a violent ballet.
And in summer, all the girls sing,
in summer, all the girls sing : "Shalalalaa !"

(continue "Shalala" until eternity)

1820 Richard & Linda Thompson - We'll Sing Hallelujah

A man is like a rusty wheel
On a rusty cart
He sings his song as he rattles along
and then he falls apart.

And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old fashioned way
'Till the shining star appears

A man is like a briar
He covers himself with thorns
He laughs like a clown when his fortune's down
And his clothes are ragged and torn

And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old fashioned way
'Till the shining star appears

A man is like a three string fiddle
Hanging up on the wall.
He plays when somebody scrapes on the bow
Or he can't play at all.

And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old fashioned way
'Till the shining star appears

A man is like his father
Wishes he never was born.
He longs for the time when the clock will chime
And he's dead for evermore.

And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old fashioned way
'Till the shining star appears

And we'll sing hallelujah
At the turning of the year
And we work all day in the old fashioned way
'Till the shining star appears
