Hardtraxx.nl: Hoe en waarom zijn jullie ooit begonnen met het draaien en produceren van muziek?
Showtek:
We luisterden vroeger sowieso al veel naar muziek, zowel dance als hiphop en we zijn eigenlijk als hobby begonnen met het maken van muziek. Wouter speelde destijds al veel piano en Sjoerd is toen meer aan de slag gegaan met het editten van audio. Die combinatie bleek later goed van pas te komen toen het echt serieus werd.
Onze platen werden veel in clubs gedraaid en uiteindelijk zijn we onze eigen muziek gaan draaien. Na onze eerste releases ‘Save the day’’ ‘Controller’ en ‘’Seid Ihr Bereid’ kregen we een aantal aanvragen en begonnen we met draaien. In die tijd zijn we ook gaan draaien in de Danssalon in Eindhoven waar we meer dan drie jaar resident zijn geweest van een harder dance evenement. Vanuit daar zijn we ook doorgegroeid als dj’s.

Hardtraxx.nl: Op Hyves staat dat jullie bezig zijn met een nieuw album, kunnen jullie hier wat meer over vertellen?
Showtek:
Ons eerste album heeft het erg goed gedaan en de reacties van het publiek waren echt ontzettend positief en het album verkoopt nog steeds! Met dat album hebben we ons goed in de markt geprofileerd, we waren tenslotte de eerste in de hardstyle scène die het voor elkaar kregen om dat te doen. En nu.. nu zijn we kei hard bezig met ons nieuwe album. Wat dat precies gaat worden kunnen we helaas niet vertellen, want anders gaan mensen bepaalde verwachtingen krijgen.
Het zal iig een vernieuwende style zijn die ook meer gericht is op de internationale markt, maar natuurlijk zitten er ook weer die typische showtek sounds in, dat blijven we sowieso houden .. maar voor nu is het nog even wachten!

Hardtraxx.nl: Voor het eerste album hebben jullie een World Tour gedaan, gaan jullie dit ook doen voor het nieuwe album?
Showtek:
Ja dat wel. We gaan sowieso heel veel naar het buitenland en dat gaat erg goed! Sommige landen zijn echt aan het knallen met de muziek, dus in 2009 zullen we veel in het buitenland zitten. We hebben afgelopen jaar een top tour gehad, maar natuurlijk kan het altijd beter en daar gaan we zeker voor.

Hardtraxx.nl: Wouter aka Walt Jenssen van de Southstylers. Tegenwoordig horen we niet veel meer van de Southstylers, gaat dit binnenkort veranderen? Komen er nieuwe producties aan?
Showtek:
De focus ligt echt op Showtek en het is niet makkelijk om alles draaiende te houden. Southstylers is een goed lopend bij project, net zoals Duro dat is maar omdat we zo druk met het album bezig zijn komt het er dus niet altijd van. Goed nieuws, er komt wel een nieuwe productie aan, maar wanneer is nog onduidelijK!

Hardtraxx.nl: Jullie hebben een bepaalde stijl in jullie producties, al eens gedacht om het roer helemaal om te gooien en iets anders te proberen?
Showtek:
Het roer omgooien is natuurlijk niet wat we willen. Showtek is momenteel echt aan het groeien, ook internationaal dus we zijn hard bezig om het nog wat boeiender te maken voor een grotere markt. De Showtek sound werkt overal en dat gaan we ook behouden, maar we zijn wel innoverend bezig om de markt te laten groeien.De laatste tijd zijn er een hele hoop platen die op elkaar lijken en dat mag best wat veranderen.
Dit jaar hebben we XQ Showtek gehad in de HMH wat in 5 weken volledig was uitverkocht zonder line up, in 2007 ons album en in 2008 nieuwe producties (bijv Black anthem) doen het goed dus we hebben nu ook de tijd om ons te richten op 2009 en verder.

Hardtraxx.nl: Waar halen jullie de inspiratie vandaan voor jullie producties?
Showtek:
Echt overal, het is niet eens uit te leggen hoe dat af en toe gaat! Maar het komt toch vooral uit muziek van andere genres, dingen die we mee maken met optredens of onderweg naar een optreden en natuurlijk het gevoel wat je hebt of dingen die je denkt. We zijn erg creatief, onze teksten schrijven we allemaal zelf bv; Hold us Back, FTS, Shout Out en zelfs alle teksten in het Black anthem. Ik denk dat we ons goed in kunnen leven in het publiek, wat ze willen horen of hoe ze zich voelen en natuurlijk op welke manier de plaat overgebracht moet worden aan het publiek.
Verder is het ook een uitdaging om na iedere hit weer een andere te maken, dat geeft je een gezonde druk om te presteren en nog vettere tracks te maken.

Hardtraxx.nl: Hoe zien jullie de toekomst?
Showtek:
We hebben al heel veel bereikt in Nederland en nu is het tijd om dat ook wereldwijd te gaan doen! En dat gaat komen ook.. We live for the Music !

Ook de bezoekers van Hardtraxx.nl hadden de kans om vragen te stellen, hieronder 3 vragen:

Bezoeker: Hoe komen jullie aan de naam Showtek?
Showtek:
We maakten eerst tekno; niet voor te stellen dat we dat nu nog zouden draaien. Maar we gingen vroeger al naar Shockers en dat was toen echt onze muziek, dus die stevige achtergrond hadden we al. Als je de eerste twee letters van onze namen pakt; Wouter (wo) en dat omdraait en de eerste twee letters van Sjoerd (Sj) er voorzet krijg je Sjow tek. Dat was iets te Russisch voor ons. Bovendien vonden we het belangrijk om tijdens onze set er een Show van de maken.. Toen werd het dus Showtek! Moeilijk verhaal maar de naam, die staat!

Bezoeker: Op diverse fora zijn ze tegenwoordig niet meer over jullie te spreken, worden jullie "uitgekotst" door de fans, Showtek is niet meer wat het was. Hoe verklaren jullie dit?
Showtek:
Op forums praten soms mensen die niet eens weten waar ze het af en toe over hebben. Wij zelf kijken er niet eens naar! Als we binnen 5 weken een HMH uitverkopen puur op onze naam, en dat ons album als warme broodjes over de toonbank gaat naar wie moeten we dan luisteren? Naar die enkele gefrustreerde internet freaks of naar de harde cijfers?
Voorbeeld; toen we die remix van Charly L & Mental T deden, werd daar enorm veel commotie over gemaakt. Vervolgens staan we op Qlimax en gaan er 24.975 handen de lucht in, iedereen zingt mee en danst als nooit te voren. Vervolgens gaan de mensen weer naar hun werk of naar school maar dan zijn er ook nog die 25 personen die gaan klagen op internet. Mensen lezen altijd slecht nieuws, het goede nieuws zal ze een worst wezen. De echte Showtek fans weten wel beter en dat kleine groepje klagers die denken dat ze voor iedereen kunnen spreken, daar gaan we ons niet druk over maken en die moeten maar eens goed naar Showtek – Hold us Back luisteren! Mensen die ons kennen, weten waar we voor staan, en misschien is het voor sommige niet meer cool omdat we nu een nog groter publiek aanspreken, puur omdat we als producers naar een hoger niveau zijn gegroeid.

Bezoeker: Wat is jullie grootste fout tijdens een optreden, en wat gebeurde er toen?
Showtek:
Er is nog nooit iets heel erg fout gegaan (klop klop klop), maar het is wel eens gebeurd dat er een kras op een cdtje stond. Die sloeg enkele keren over en de gehele mix liep in de soep. Tja dat heb je.. Vroeger had je draaitafels waarbij de naald wel eens gek deed, nu heb je cd spelers waarbij het wel eens fout gaat.

Hardtraxx.nl: Tot slot, willen jullie verder nog iets kwijt?
Showtek:
We zijn dus erg druk bezig met het nieuwe Showtek album en Hold us Back (waar iedereen naar vraagt) die gaat komen.. echt!!. Er komen onverwacht een aantal releases tussendoor omdat het nu zo uitkomt en het mooie is dat als je hem echt wilt horen je naar onze optredens moet komen en dat geeft ons natuurlijk ook wel een bepaalde exclusiviteit. Dus hij komt eraan maar nog even wachten. Verder willen we iedereen bedanken die ons steunt tijdens onze sets en onze muziek koopt.

Although it sounds like a cliché, 2007 was a memorable and amazing year with several highlights for Showtek. Their first artist album ‘Today Is Tomorrow’ – containing 39 tracks - became a worldwide success and a milestone in the scene of harder dance. The title refers to the fact that Showtek’s music made in the studio today reaches the listener tomorrow. The following world tour through America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, etc. was a beautiful and intense musical journey for the Showtekkers. The two discovered new fields to play in far destinations and became true ambassadors promoting the Dutch power-sound. “We think our album shows that Showtek has an own, unique and diverse sound. A style that seems to appeal many people in the world, since we’re playing almost every weekend abroad nowadays. ‘Today Is Tomorrow’ showed that we are closer than ever in the studio and have found the perfect balance.”

The Eindhoven based act existing of the brothers Wouter (1982) and Sjoerd Janssen (1984) has reached the absolute top after years of blood, sweat and tears. Their stunning live-performances, devastating dj sets, but above all, a bunch of superb productions and massive hits has led to world-domination in the harder dance scene. Their unique, catchy and banging sound not only sets the Dutch dance floors on fire, nowadays Showtek has become a thrilling name abroad, even playing shows at the other side of the planet. "It's hard to mention the ultimate highlight in our career so far. We've toured in more than 20 countries and our records are shipped all around the world. It’s great that the number of people we can share our music with is still growing."

Both brothers were infected by the dance virus at an early age and coming from a musical family it goes without saying that they soon started to produce music. After three years Wouter and Sjoerd finally had the feeling that their studio-efforts reached the level of professionalism and maturity they had in mind, and the first record was given birth. Wouter can be described as the musical Mozart of the two with a broad vision on music and his talent to play keyboards very well. His brother Sjoerd being the more dance floor-orientated producer who exactly knows what record does and doesn't work for a crowd. The many years in the studio not only resulted in developing an own sound, but also learned them what he most effective and comfortable way of working is. "Our sound is catchy, melodic and harsh. Sometimes is well-thought, but it can also be very spontaneous and loose. Since we each have a different view on music the Showtek-sound can be quite diverse. Nevertheless our sound is always recognisable as being a typical Showtek track."

With the start of their own Dutch Master Works label they created a quality-platform for their original sounding electronic music. Although The Showtekkers have only released self produced material on the label, the duo states that Dutch Master Works in the near future will also see releases from others. Wouter and Sjoerd are best known as Showtek, although they use different project names that are all very successful. The name Walt Jenssen is used by Wouter and stands for techno- and trance-influenced music, with heavy beats and an experimental touch. Duro is a side project with pounding beats and nasty sounds and Southstylers is a corporation between Walt Jenssen and Zany. After having took Holland by storm the productions of the Showtekkers are nowadays shipped and licensed all over the world. "It's our main goal to perfection the Showtek-sound and reach more people around the globe with our music and through the label. However the most important thing is never lose the passion and fun."

Their dancefloor missile ‘FTS’ in 2007 (Best Produced Track at "Hard Dance Awards 2008 UK") did a lot of good work and everywhere in the world the crowds went nuts screaming at this ultimate anthem. A remix for Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo’s classic ‘Wonderfull Days’ gained massive reactions and their label ‘Dutch Master Works’ remains one of the best selling in de harder dance scene. Although Showtek will continue to produce new killer tracks a next album isn’t scheduled yet. In January 2008 a dream came true when Showtek hosted an own sold out event in the bunker HMH in Amsterdam for 6000 people. “The Showtek X-qlusive event in Holland is the highest goal we’ve reached so far. We are very proud that we nowadays sell records and play in many different countries. Those gigs in other countries give a lot of inspiration to make the best possible new music.”

Showtek on stage is an experience people will not easily forget and no matter where they play the roof gets blown off. Showtek can be booked as a live-act, but as djs as well. Wouter and Sjoerd say that there's no better high in life than seeing the crowd going nuts on their self-produced music. A packed dancefloor full of smiling face is the biggest reward they can imagine. Besides that a good performance motivates and inspires the brothers to push the pedal to the metal even more next time in the studio. "Even as dj’s we tend to play a lot of own productions and 80 percent of our sets consist of record we produced ourselves. It's not that we don't like other people's music, but we get a huge kick playing our own tracks in front of an enthusiastic audience. It's a privilege to have a steady and loyal following of people who really are into your music.")

Although it sounds like a cliché, 2007 was a memorable and amazing year with several highlights for Showtek. Their first artist album ‘Today Is Tomorrow’ – containing 39 tracks - became a worldwide success and a milestone in the scene of harder dance. The title refers to the fact that Showtek’s music made in the studio today reaches the listener tomorrow. The following world tour through America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, etc. was a beautiful and intense musical journey for the Showtekkers. The two discovered new fields to play in far destinations and became true ambassadors promoting the Dutch power-sound. “We think our album shows that Showtek has an own, unique and diverse sound. A style that seems to appeal many people in the world, since we’re playing almost every weekend abroad nowadays. ‘Today Is Tomorrow’ showed that we are closer than ever in the studio and have found the perfect balance.”

The Eindhoven based act existing of the brothers Wouter (1982) and Sjoerd Janssen (1984) has reached the absolute top after years of blood, sweat and tears. Their stunning live-performances, devastating dj sets, but above all, a bunch of superb productions and massive hits has led to world-domination in the harder dance scene.
