It’s almost the end of the calciomercato season and things are still very much in flux for the Azzurri. With the transfer market set to close on Monday, Napoli Direttore Generale, Pier Paolo Marino has little time left to tie up some loose ends.
Tomasz Jodlowiec finally signed for 1.3 million euros ending what was a month-long saga. It was never quite clear what the hold up was, outside of his Polish club not wanting him to leave but desperate for the money regardless. Marino signed the Polish central defender, often favorably compared to Fabio Cannavaro, and he’s currently at Castelvolturno (where Napoli train) for a physical. I doubt he’ll ever captain a World Cup winning side but that’s high praise. In any case, the squad needed some depth on the backline and Jodlowiec should provide cover for the starting defenders expected to be Santacroce-Cannavaro-Contini. Jodlowiec won’t play in today’s EUFA Cup match and
I’d expect Coach Edy Reja to try and break in the 23-year old slowly. Jodlowiec doesn’t know the language and the central defender has spent his “entire” three year career in Poland. The 190cm (6′3″) defender has experience playing in the EUFA Cup last year with his Polish team. Hopefully, this is another young diamond uncovered by Marino. He doesn’t make many mistakes so I trust him implicitly here.
Mirko Savini: Savini has been with Napoli since De Laurentis’ second year in charge of the Azzurri. The 29-year old left winger has been displaced by Napoli youth product Luigi Vitale and Marino has been looking to sell him off since the preseason. Sky journalist Gianluca Di Marzio indicates that while much of the talk of Savini’s destination is focused on Catania, Di Marzio believes Savini’s destination lies north. Negotiations with newly-promoted Chievo Verona are said to be almost complete. Savini is interested in Chievo as he’s likely to play more for the gialloblu than the Sicilian Catania side.
Roberto De Zerbi: The purchase of German Denis and the resurgence of Inacio Pia means De Zerbi is another player who’ll likely get the Dalla Bona treatment and find more time in the stands then even on the bench. Catania has floated the idea of swapping Giuseppe Colucci for De Zerbi. Colucci has recovered from a horrible injury two years ago and made 25 appearances for Walter Zenga’s club last year. Colucci broke into Italian football as a 16-year old playing for Serie B side Foggia but hasn’t really delivered on his early promise. Unless Giuseppe has updates to the compromising pictures of coach Edy Reja with farm animals that Gianluca Grava seems to have extended his career with, I don’t see Colucci getting any playing time and the deal is much more likely to benefit Catania.
Maurizio Domizzi: Really not sure what else to say about the Roman red ass. Marino put a 6 million euro tag on his head and although teams are interested, no one seems to have come close to the asking price. It appears Napoli has no intention of selling him off for less than their asking price and Domizzi is now caught in between. At this point, he’s no longer training with the squad because of slight injuryand he’s pretty much backed himself into a corner. Domizzi keeps citing “personal reasons” for his desire to leave Napoli and you’d think
at a certain point he’d realize he’s in the prime of his career and can’t afford to lose his spot. But things are getting bad for Domizzi as he’s now displaced from the starting XI, had next to no playing time (none in the EUFA Cup and little in friendlies) and unless De Laurentis and Marino stop playing chicken, he’s going to find himself on the bench or in the stands fighting for scrap playing time. The standing rumour around Domizzi’s “personal reasons” have to do with an alleged affair his wife had/is having/wants to have with keeper Genarro Iezzo. All in all, I’d say Napoli is getting rid of the wrong player if that’s the case. I don’t see Iezzo recapturing the form he had a few years ago and, despite some bad stretches last year, Domizzi can provide a threat down the left flank with his crosses and booming free kicks.
In a few hours, Napoli will host Albanian side FC Vllanznia in the return leg of the their second qualifying round match for the UEFA Cup. Napoli holds a 3-0 lead and will have to surrender three goals at the San Paolo, without scoring one of their own, to take the match into extra time or lose by three goals in order to not advance. The first leg of round 1 is September 18 and the second leg is October 2. If Napoli can manage to get past today and the round 1, they’ll enter into the UEFA Cup group stages and will be guaranteed at least two more European nights at the San Paolo…if the house is a-rockin’ don’t bother knockin’.

Roma were unable to get the better of 10-man Napoli at the Olimpico, as Marek Hamsik secured a point in the capital.
This was the 124th Derby del Sole and traditionally a fiery occasion between historic rivals. Last season it ended in a spectacular 4-4 draw, but this time around the Giallorossi had to do without the injured Francesco Totti, Rodrigo Taddei and Simone Perrotta. Napoli too had problems with Roberto De Zerbi and Maurizio Domizzi sitting out bans, while Mannini and Mariano Bogliacino were injured.
It was a moving occasion for Roma, as it was the first Serie A season since 1983 to begin without President Franco Sensi, who died earlier this month, so his wife Maria placed flowers on the seat that was his for 15 years and a minutes' silence was held. His place at the club has been taken by daughter Rosella, the first female President in Italian top flight football.
Julio Baptista and John Arne Riise made their Serie A debuts and Cicinho returned after a training ground row with Luciano Spalletti.
Philippe Mexes threw himself at a cross to anticipate Gustavo German Denis, but in doing so would've scored an own goal had it not been for a fantastic Alexander Doni reaction save!
Roma broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark through Alberto Aquilani. Daniele De Rossi's ball over the top was chested down and flicked in by Aquilani, although the Napoli defence left him far too much space.
Gennaro Iezzo blocked a Julio Baptista effort from the edge of the box and Denis' header was off target. Mirko Vucinic incredibly failed to make it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, as he combined with Aquilani to go clear on goal only to place a very weak shot into the grateful arms of Iezzo.
Roma were piling on the pressure and Iezzo palmed away an Aquilani strike that was just a few centimetres beyond the reach of Mexes from six yards.
Walter Gargano's free kick curled inches over the bar at the start of the second half, then a Denis left-foot drive skimmed the far post.
The visitors were more sprightly after the break, as Ezequiel Lavezzi skipped past three defenders to flash a shot across the face of goal, then Marek Hamsik missed a great chance from Gargano's assist.
Napoli's hopes of getting back into the game were seemingly dashed when Fabiano Santacroce stuck out a leg for a cynical foul to stop Vucinic's counter. It was his second bookable offence.
However, moments later 10-man Napoli equalised. A corner kick was nodded towards Hamsik by Denis, flicked on to the crossbar and then Hamsik acrobatically netted the loose ball.
Luciano Spalletti threw on new signing Jeremy Menez for his Serie A debut, moving Marco Cassetti back into defence. Aquilani wasted a remarkable chance six yards from an open goal, as he didn't adjust his body in time for De Rossi's cross and deflected over with his stomach.
Roma were seemingly unable to take advantage of the extra man and struggled to break down the Napoli defence. Instead, Doni had to rush out to push the ball off the feet of Lavezzi in a one-on-one situation.
With three minutes left on the clock, Doni had to stick out a foot to parry another Lavezzi attempt. Menez should've scored the winner on his debut, but weakly hit the ball straight at Iezzo from point-blank range!
Menez created another good opportunity in stoppages, but this time Stefano Okaka Chuka was too hasty and wasted it.

Toch niet slecht zo'n 1-1 tegen Roma. Tijdens de OS eindelijk wat meer gezien van Lavezzi ook, wel een goede voetballer, zeg.

Nou, ik vond de rode kaart ontzettend dom en onnodig, maar wel terecht. Beide gele kaarten waren simpelweg terecht, maar zeker die 1e was echt totaal onnodig. En dan met die wetenschap Vucinic zo tackelen is stom, zeker met nog voldoende man achter de bal, voor een 2e geel. Wat me met name opviel was dat Roma zonder Totti weinig durfde, weinig initiatief nam (Napoli had over de gehele match evenveel balbezit als de thuisploeg die bijna de hele 2e helft met een man meer speelde) en ook weinig zelf creerde. Op basis van de2e helft had Napoli eigenlijk verdiend te winnen, jammer dat ze niet vanaf de aftrap zo begonnen.
MOTM aan Napoli zijde wat mij betreft 2 man: Gargano & Lavezzi. De 1e had diverse goeie voorzetten, ruimde enorm veel in verdedigend opzicht en was goed in de omschakeling.
Lavezzi bezorgde de Roma defensie handen vol werk, helaas zonder goals tot resultaat (Als hij die solo had afgemaakt waarbij hij Riise over z'n goede been passeert alsof ie lepra had was het echt een wereldgoal geweest) en ook Denis speelde goed, had 1 goede kans (naast) en de 2e, kopbal richting paal, werd door Hamsik via de rebound tot goal gepromoveerd.
Mbt de fans was het een en al chaos op het spoor, diverse arrestaties op Termini en in Napoli (mensen zonder ticket) en de fans kwamen over het algemeen pas in de rust binnen.
Op voorhand was een 1-1 een goed resultaat, achteraf ook niet ontevreden, maar wel de wetenschap dat als Napoli vanaf het begin was gestart zoals de 2e helft gespeeld was, dit Roma gewoon kansloos geweest was thuis.

Tifosi van Napoli mogen niet meer mee op verplaatsing
De uitwedstrijd op het veld van AS Roma was meteen de laatste voor de tifosi van Napoli.
Napoli zal het dit seizoen in al zijn uitwedstrijden in de Serie A zonder de aanmoedigingen van zijn supporters moeten stellen. De Italiaanse minister van Binnenlandse Zaken, Roberto Maroni, legde de tifosi van de Zuid-Italiaanse club het verbod op om zich nog te verplaatsen voor de uitwedstrijden van hun club.
Een duizendtal fans van Napoli had zich zondag op de eerste speeldag voor aanvang van de wedstrijd AS Roma-Napoli (1-1) zwaar misdragen. In het station van Napels hadden ze een trein bestormd en alle andere passagiers verplicht uit te stappen. Toen bleek dat de politie de orde niet kon herstellen, vertrok de trein toch naar Rome. Daar aangekomen bleek de trein grondig vernield. De ramen waren gebroken, de zitplaatsen en zelfs de toiletten afgebroken. De schade wordt op 500.000 euro geschat. Las op Bigsoccer ergens dat risicowedstrijden misschien ook nog achter gesloten deuren gespeeld zouden worden... Niet te hopen..
Vooral als er ca. 8.000 fans gaan en er niks geregeld wordt qua transport, in een land gebukt onder hoge inflatie. Dan weet je dat veel te veel mensen dezelfde paar (relatief zeer goedkope) treinen pakken en het wel mis moet gaan. En hoe lok je boosheid uit. Nou, door fans die maar 40 minuten voetbal gezien hebben vervolgen 4 uur vast te houden in een stadion met buitentemperatuur van 35 graden zonder mogelijkheid ook maar iets te drinken te kopen.
En berichten over kapotte toegangsdeurtjes naar het stadion is leuk, maar dan mag je er ook bij vertellen dat je pas in de rust aankomt en ze dicht staan.
Zo zie je maar weer hoe de media direct oordeelt en zoals de zaken werkelijk liggen.

Ik hoorde dat een Napoli fan aan de noodrem getrokken had en dat daardoor vertraging en rellen in de trein ontstaan waren? Mijn Italiaans is niet al te best, dus misschien heb ik 't verkeerd begrepen?
Een vriend van me handelt in voetbalshirts en beweert nu het Napoli shirt van Maradona te hebben dat hij droeg tijdens de wedstrijd tegen Bayern met die warming up met Live is Life op de achtergrond. Zal binnenkort ff een fototje proberen te regelen
