But while working behind the counter of Gold's Gym in Venice, a discussion with a wrestler-in-training encouraged Cena to enroll in classes at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. He was instantly hooked, and became motivated to learn everything he could about his newfound craft. He obviously proved a quick study; within a year, World Wrestling Entertainment signed Cena to a developmental contract to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. By June 2002, he had joined the SmackDown roster, and less than a year later headlined the first of what has since become countless main-event matches.

That said, Cena has never forgotten his roots. In fact, remembering where he came from has helped him evolve into the man he is today: a well-versed hip-hop artist, a successful movie star and a blue-collared Chain Gang Soldier who's always ready to fight. Almost inconceivably, he would have to fly himself down to Atlanta in 1993, to convince then-new VP Eric Bischoff that he was "good enough" to join the World Championship Wrestling roster. Fortunately, the unlimited potential he showed at World Championship Wrestling quickly got him noticed at World Wrestling Entertainment; by May 1995, "Hunter Hearst-Helmsley" (a name which soon became more identifiable as Triple H) would make his WWE debut. And the rest, as they say, is history.

More than 20 years after entering that small Nashua gym, Triple H maintains the strictest of training regimens, incorporating techniques from world-renowned fitness trainers like Charles Glass. Such dedication has provided him with the fortitude to become a Grand Slam champion; the wisdom to shepherd the "Evolution" of then-newcomers Randy Orton and Batista to WWE Superstardom; the charisma to star in feature films, television shows, and commercials; and the stamina to pull countless sophomoric pranks on Mr. McMahon as a founder of D-Generation X. In addition to his solo success, Undertaker has been quite the team player throughout his career. He has even earned multiple World Tag Team Championships, standing alongside the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold, Big Show and his own brother, Kane.

The son of former National Hockey League player Ted Irvine, Jericho was born in Manhasset, N.Y. but was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. He trained in Stu Hart's famed dungeon and made his pro wrestling debut at age 19 in 1990. Jericho wrestled around the world and infused different styles he learned in Canada, Mexico and Japan into his own repertoire. He slowly built a following what would become loyal "Jerichoholics" before appearing in ECW (where he briefly held the ECW TV Championship) and then landing in WCW in 1996. Jericho would rise to new heights of stardom – when he entered World Wrestling Entertainment in the summer of 1999.

Jericho's rivalries with Chyna, The Rock, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Rob Van Dam and Christian were legendary for both their in-ring intensity and comic vignettes outside the ring. Hardly any titles were safe when he was around. Besides holding the European and Hardcore Championships, the self-proclaimed "Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla" won the Intercontinental Championship seven times and held the World Tag Team Championship three times with three different partners. But Jericho cemented his place in WWE history on December 9, 2001 at Vengeance, when he beat both The Rock for the WCW Championship and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for the WWE Championship to unify both titles and become the first Undisputed WWE Champion. Jericho's WWE championship was brief – he lost the title to Triple H three months later at WrestleMania X8 – but no one could take away his accomplishment.

Y2J's WWE career appeared to end in August 2005 when he lost a You're Fired Match to then-WWE Champion John Cena on Raw. Jericho pursued an acting career, continued touring with Fozzy and appeared on VH1's Best Week Ever and I Love The '80s. He has also hosted his own show on XM Satellite Radio called The Rock of Jericho and released his biography, A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex.

Despite his numerous projects, the multitalented Jericho cannot get enough of the squared circle. Behold the second coming of Jericho. Who knows what the rebirth of his in-ring career will bring. One thing is certain, as Y2J would say, WWE fans are not likely to see anyone like him ever – evvvveerrrr – again!

Punk's in-ring repertoire is an assimilation of fighting styles he has learned from his travels around the world. In his WWE pay-per-view debut as a part of Team DX at Survivor Series 2006, Punk brought down the house in Philadelphia where fans showed their respect for his talents.

In 2007, the Straightedge Supertar obtained the ECW Championship by defeating John Morrison on ECW on Sci Fi. In his tenure in the Land of the Extreme, he was considered a top contender and constant threat for whoever was holding the ECW Title.

"By the time I was finished with them," he relates, "they were lying on the ground with their eyes rolling in the back of their heads. I was very scared they were going to die." They didn't, but the incident did result in Batista's arrest, a year's probation, and his decision to make radical changes in his life.

Enrolling in Wild Samoan Afa's wrestling school in Allentown, Pa., Batista admits that at first he saw sports-entertainment simply as "a way to make a living"— until he was told at a WCW tryout that he didn't have the chops to make it as a wrestler. "That lit a fire under my a**. Wrestling became an obsession that I fell in love with. I completely redirected my training and philosophies, redesigned my body and mental outlook. I just really wanted to be an athlete and an entertainer."

Though his personal perseverance brought him to WWE in May 2002, Batista credits former Evolution colleagues Triple H and Ric Flair with developing "a muscleheaded goofball" into a World Heavyweight Champion, one who backs his composed words and demeanor with an explosive fury befitting his nickname. He considers himself neither a leader nor a follower in the locker room ("I'm just a loner, I keep to myself," he insists), but inside the ring, on the covers of muscle mags like FLEX, and even once against budding Superman Tom Welling on The CW Network series Smallville, "The Animal" is clearly a dominant species. A dominant species who, by the way, has collected more than 50 vintage tin lunchboxes. Our advice: respect this six-foot-six, 290-pound beast and his 1967 Green Hornet sandwich container (sporting Bruce Lee's face on the front), which he cherishes among his most prized possessions. Three-minute warnings fell on deaf ears with him. He only knew one speed – full-speed ahead. Maybe he was too simple to comprehend – or maybe he was just fearless – but he wasn't intimidated by WWE heroes and legends. Flair and the rest of WWE knew at that moment that a new monster was on the loose.

Since then, Umaga has battled WWE's elite, from John Cena to Triple H and Jeff Hardy, among others. His epic battles with Cena and Hardy over the WWE Championship and Intercontinental Title are modern day WWE classics. And perhaps more than anyone, Umaga pushed Triple H to the limit. Many times The Game needed help walking back to the locker room after his battles with the Samoan Bulldozer.

Umaga is not a typical plodding big man; he is a heavyweight who is deceptively quick and can be as comfortable on the top rope as any cruiserweight. These traits, combined with his penchant for sadism, make Umaga very dangerous and perhaps that's why he has been used as a hired gun occasionally by Mr. McMahon

At WrestleMania XIV, the half-brothers met for the first time in singles competition, but it was only the beginning.

Will his alliance with Jericho see Cade rise to new heights, and perhaps find him holding singles gold sooner rather than later?

Montel Vontavious Porter, also known as MVP, became SmackDown's gem acquisition on September 27, 2006, when then General Manager Theodore Long and Porter came to a lucrative contract agreement. The press conference was shown exclusively on WWE.com.

Signing Porter was not easy. Despite the fact that he had yet to step in a SmackDown ring, MVP was hyped by his agents as "the most talented free agent in the game," and he was in high demand from organizations all over the sports-entertainment world. Despite Long's requests, MVP made it clear that he wasn't getting in the ring until a contract was signed, because as MVP's saying goes, "no contract, no contact."

Porter is flashy and cocky, but he has been able to prove himself in the ring, winning multiple championships and defeating the likes of Kane, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and Batista along the way.

MVP soon found himself tag team champions with Matt Hardy, the No. 1 contender to his United States Championship. Although the pair were not the best of friends, they made very effective champions, even though MVP constantly insisted that he was the entire reason for their success. Unfortunately for Matt, MVP's true motive for partnering with him was to keep him from challenging him in singles competition. When Matt pushed the issue, MVP double-crossed him and caused Matt a serious injury, forcing him to leave SmackDown once again. Upon his return, Hardy not only cost MVP the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania XXIV, but inevitability the United States Championship as well.

MVP main goal seems to constantly prove that he is better than anyone who steps in the ring with him. He is a smooth talker at the mic, as evident as MVP hosts the VIP Lounge on SmackDown, and a force to be reckoned with any time he steps between the ropes

Just by looking at him, you'd never guess that the seemingly laid-back Californian's biggest passion outside the ring has to do with speed and two wheels. But even before his in-ring days began, Palumbo was fascinated with building and riding motorcycles.

Don't let that reserved look fool you, and don't think for a second that Palumbo's mind is elsewhere when he's in the squared circle. Chuck is a master inside the ring as well, something many current and former WWE Superstars have found out the hard way.

First coming to prominence in WCW in 2000, Palumbo teamed with his fellow Natural Born Thrillers to capture the WCW Tag Team Championship four times in the promotion's final year of existence. Having moved to WWE following the acquisition of WCW, Palumbo is also a multiple-time World Tag Team Champion.

Palumbo left WWE in 2005, moving on to wrestle in Japan and Italy (as well as spend more time working on his motorcycle craft) before finally returning in 2007. And with both of his passions merged, Palumbo sees even clearer the similarities between the two.

"Wrestling is an art form, as is building motorcycles," he says. "You have to have a vision of what the end product is going to look like, then craft it with your hands."

Hopefully, Palumbo's biggest masterpiece in both fields is still ahead of him

Big Show's measurements are astounding: 441 pounds; 7-feet of raw girth and might; 22 EEEEE shoe size; 22 1/2 ring size and a 64-inch chest.

Big Show made his in-ring debut in WCW where he left a massive impression as The Giant, and captured the WCW Championship on two occasions, along with the WCW Tag Team Titles. The Giant had an immediate impact in WCW, focusing his attention on some of the biggest icons in the industry, from Hulk Hogan to The "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

In 1999, the mighty giant became a worldwide star upon signing with WWE. He continued to collide with Superstars of great renown and captured countless titles, including the WWE Championship. From "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to The Rock to Undertaker to Triple H, Big Show has battled and manhandled the top names in sports-entertainment.

Normally, William Regal is one of WWE's most smug and haughty Superstars. A distinguished Englishman, Regal finds most others crass and downright unworthy of his time. Learning the ropes as a young teenager, the native of Blackpool, England traveled across the United Kingdom wrestling as part of carnivals. Facing off against challengers from the carnival circuit as well as from the crowd, Regal quickly earned a reputation as a lethal opponent, with fists of iron and dozens of different holds to render his adversaries helpless. Always interested in sharpening his tools as a wrestler, Regal traveled across the world, winning several championships in Europe, the Middle East and Japan before landing in WCW in 1993. There, Regal held the WCW Television Championship on four occasions; he also nearly won the WCW Tag Team Championship on several occasions with Bobby Eaton and Squire David Taylor, and also had a memorable rivalry with Finlay that saw the Irish brawler break Regal's nose during a match in 1996. Regal came to WWE for a short time in 1998, but headed back to WCW shortly thereafter.

Regal finally hit it big when he returned to WWE in 2000. Less than a month after his return, Regal defeated Al Snow for the European Championship that October. In April 2001, he would defeat Snow again to earn a different title: WWE Commissioner. Regal earned several chances at the Intercontinental Championship that summer; he was unsuccessful, but after enlisting Tajiri as his assistant, Regal became a key figure in WWE's battle with the ECW/WCW Alliance.

The Englishman also used his class and wit to determine the week-to-week function of the entire Monday night roster as the General Manager of the Raw brand, keeping in line "pillicks" and competitors alike. Arguably his crowning achievement, however, was becoming really regal by winning the 2008 WWE King of the Ring Tournament. Ultimately, his misuse of authority - blackening arenas and cutting microphone feeds - came to an end when Mr. Kennedy defeated Regal in a Loser Gets Fired Match on the May 19 edition of Raw. But that wouldn't be the last of the cunning Englishman, who soon resurfaced on Monday nights, seeking competition as sports-entertainment's hottest "free agent."

True, games have always had dedicated audiences that were linked together by message boards, tin cans on string, etc., but now the merging of games and online functions is creating all sorts of ways for fans to get together and go nuts about their favs.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 is no exception. In addition to the usual online matches, SVR 09 is tossing in Highlight Reel, an option where you can record parts of your matches, save them, edit them together, and then upload the file for the world to see.

The feature seems like it'll be easy enough to use. Players will do something cool in their matches; pause the game; and have the option to watch the last 30 seconds of gameplay while changing camera angles, manually moving the point of view, and fast forwarding and rewinding at will. If you dig a 30-second spot, you can save the clip and continue the match -- saving other replays whenever you feel like it. When the match is over, you can jump into the Highlight Reel option and get to work on your masterpiece.

Once you're in the editing tool, you're going to have a handful of options at your fingertips. You can toss in multiple clips, put transitions between them, add effects such as slow motion and filters, and pipe in sounds that include music from your system's playlist. There will be editable graphics and logos, the ability to change camera angles here as well, and more. When it's all said and done, you can create a custom, virtual DVD Cover with different backgrounds, Superstar photos, graphics, and custom text. You can even create your own screenshots -- complete with graphics, filters and more -- in the editing tool.

You'll be able to save 20 of these movies, and yes, your created Superstars and finishers will be supported in this mode. When you think you've got squared-circle gold, you can upload your videos and/or screens and hop on the SVR server to download what the other rabid WWE fans have made.

Chavo came to WWE in 2001, and has won the Cruiserweight and Tag Team Championships multiple times. He fulfilled a life-long dream when he teamed with Eddie Guerrero to win the gold in 2002.

Following the tragic passing of Eddie in November 2005, Chavo has dedicated every match to his late uncle, and adopted Eddie's signature Frog Splash as his own finishing maneuver.

In 2008, the self-proclaimed "Mexican Warrior" aggressively pursued CM Punk's ECW Championship, leading Guerrero to winning the ECW Title. He has since remained a staple to ECW's roster. Now, with his association his bodyguard Bam Neely, he is more dangerous than ever.

No matter who he is with or against, Chavo is still realizing his destiny as a member of one of the most celebrated families in sports-entertainment history.

Now, with his father watching on, Cody Rhodes is thrilled to have an opportunity in WWE and show our fans that the legacy of the Dream lives on. The second-generation Superstar has already won championship gold twice, the first time obtaining the World Tag Team Championship with partner Hardcore Holly, and the second time turning on Holly with new partner and fellow wrestling scion, Ted DiBiase, to win the title again at Night of Champions.

Along with DiBiase, Cody Rhodes represents a new generation of Superstars that have the genetics, pride and confidence to go the distance. Rhodes has made his intentions clear: to make his own name in WWE, and he doesn't want anyone holding him back

Hardcore Holly is a man definitely deserving of his name.

Known as "The Alabama Slammer," he is as tough as they come and has been a mainstay in WWE for more than a decade. Brutalizing opponents with his gruff offensive attacks, Hardcore Holly earned his nickname during the era of the hardcore division in WWE. Even to this day, Holly still lives up to his hardcore reputation, punishing opponents with hard fists, hardcore brawling and his trademark Alabama Slam.

Channeling his anger as a tool in the ring, Holly has enjoyed great success. Just a year after his debut, Holly teamed with 1-2-3 Kid at the 1995 Royal Rumble to win a tournament for the World Tag Team Championship. Four years later, he won the World Tag Team Championship once again with Crash Holly.

He was extremely successful in the hardcore division as well, winning the Hardcore Championship six times during its active era. His toughness and no-nonsense attitude earned a slot as one of the trainers for MTV's Tough Enough 2, where he used his fists to teach several hopeful trainees about respect, hard work and paying your dues.

All of which serves to reinforce the Alabaman's grit. It's also why you don't get any respect in WWE unless you've beaten Hardcore Holly first.

If there's one other thing for sure about Maria, though, it's that while she radiates beauty, the girl her friends call "Boop" won't stop honing her craft until she wears the Women's gold around her waist. So watch out all you stars and studs in the locker room, because you never know when you're going to get your dose of Maria.

As he grew older, so did his desire to take greater risks, whether it was to feel the rush of executing hundred-foot-high triples on his motorcross bike, or jumping off the roof of his house as a member of the brothers' "Teenage Wrestling Federation." It was such fearlessness and desire that would bring the 16-year-old daredevil to World Wrestling Entertainment, and after several years catapult him to worldwide fame and main-event status, first as one-half of WWE's high-flying "Team Extreme," The Hardys, then in singles competition.

Though many of his paintings are abstract, this free spirit is a Rembrandt inside the ring, signing his name not with the traditional paintbrush or pen, but with wildly unorthodox, high-impact maneuvers off top ropes and 20-foot ladders. His credo is simple: to create, then surpass his creation.

Unfortunately, most true artists must sink to their lowest point before attaining their greatest heights. For Jeff, the wear-and-tear of living life on the road would help prompt him to leave WWE in 2003. But after a three-year personal journey of refocusing his passion and energies, he now finds himself "in a positive place…and that's what motivates me." Since returning to WWE in August 2006, this reinspired risk-taker has gone back to creating the art he loves most—entertaining WWE fans in arenas around the world. And his most extreme masterpiece awaits.

In 2003, shortly after joining the SmackDown roster, Matt Hardy pursued the Cruiserweight Championship. After struggling for weeks to make the weight limit, Hardy defeated Kidman for the Championship at No Way Out '03.

After he won the title, Hardy endured an up and down rivalry with Rey Mysterio. Hardy got the best of Rey Mysterio in a controversial Championship match at WrestleMania 19. A month later however, Mysterio got his revenge, defeating Hardy for the Cruiserweight Championship on SmackDown.

In de menu's zijn geen laadtijden. Van wrestler select scherm naar match summary scherm zit een korte laadtijd (3 sec ofzo). Match summary naar entrance's ongeveer 5 a 7 seconden laadtijd, tussen de entrance's zit dan weer helemaal geen laadtijd.
