Laatste update van m'n blog:
The otherwise so scrumpy looking professor changed his jeans and t-shirt for a suit with tie. A lady, followed by 3 other people walked in the lecture hall. While I didn't recognize her, some of my Swedish classmates started to get exited, I could notice. Then the prof introduced the lady who was standing in front of the lecture hall as being Princess Victoria, crown Princess of Sweden. She was going to attend some classes of my master programme. While the professor started lecturing over state formation in Europe and Africa, he found it necessary to talk extensively about the Swedish state formation, and that former kings were keen of hacking of hands. The princess found it was neccesary to elaborate that here father would never do such a thing! Since then, she has attented 2 other lectures. I think it's quite cool to say that I've been studying together with the Crown Princess of Sweden!
Besides that, studying life has really started. Its all quit introductary, I have the feeling i've learned little new stuff. However, it makes sense, since all the 35 people in my class come first of all from all over the world, with different education systems everywhere (There's people from Georgia to Canada to Italy to Hawaii, to Bulgaria, so quit diverse), and second everybody has different educational backgrounds. While my educational background is pretty much in line with the programme, some have studied languages or crimonology, so they have to get on the same level as all the others are. This is quit frustrating though. However, I know it will get better. The professors are great in general. The most important Prof of the department, Peter Wallensteen, is internationally well-recognized, and a great story teller. At some point we had a discussion about the crisis in Kenia this spring, and it was very cool that he could say 'well, I discussed this topic with Kofi recently, and Kofi said that...' . So, he's on a first name-basis with Kofi Annan, which to me is pretty impressive.
Social life has also been great. The group of people in the programme is really cool, we all get along very well together. There's party's here and there, lots of coffee and lots of fun. I feel well at home here, and dont' regret having made the decision to come here at all! The only thing I don't like is the weather. I haven't seen the sun in a week. It's constatnly cloudy. Plus, it's cold. It hasn't been above 10 degrees in a while, and the other night it was even freezing. However, I guess that's the disadvantage of moving to a Scandinavian country. Although, this is quit extreme, the Swedes tell me!
Well, not so much more exiting news to tell. Everyday life is everyday life everywhere. Doing the dishes, buying groceries (expensive), cleaning, doing something social, studying, going to university. This does not really matter, whether you're in Sweden, The Netherlands or somewhere else!
Ik ben niet gek, ik ben een vliegtuig!
