bron: Wikipediaquote:Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA) are players who have completed four or more accrued seasons of service and whose contracts have expired. They are free to sign with any club through July 22 (or the first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later). On July 23, their exclusive rights will revert to their original club if that club made a June 1 tender to these players. Teams will have until the Tuesday after the 10th week of the season (November 14) to sign their unrestricted veteran free agents to whom a tender was made on June 1. If the player does not sign by November 14, he must continue to sit out the remainder of the season. If a June 1 tender is not made to a UFA, he continues to be free to sign with any club.
Restricted Free Agents (RFA) are players who have completed three accrued seasons of service and whose contracts have expired. They have received qualifying offers from their old clubs and are free to negotiate with any club until April 21, at which time their rights revert to their original club. If a player accepts an offer from a new club, the old club will have the right to match the offer and retain the player. If the old club elects not to match the offer, it may receive draft-choice compensation depending on the level of the qualifying offer made to the player.

quote:The 5-yard facemask penalty – eliminating it?
“I think that’s good. I think we’ve all seen a lot of plays where the runner stiff-arms a defender and puts his hand on the facemask but doesn’t pull it, and isn’t penalized for it. Defensively, there are times when you get your hand in that area for whatever reason – a runner falling, it’s such a fast thing, and if a player doesn’t pull it and jerk it, and it’s not an injury risk, then I don’t think it needs to be penalized.”

Maybe the Miami Dolphins are finally tipping their hand.
The agents for former Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long were spotted at the Dolphins training complex on Tuesday, on hand for preliminary contract talks, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The Dolphins hold the first overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
The presence of his agents doesn't solidify that Long, the three-time Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, will be the No. 1 pick. The Dolphins are thought to wish to negotiate contract parameters with a least three players prior to the draft. Defensive end Chris Long, formally of Virginia, and defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey (LSU) are believed to be the others.
Long is the first player to be contacted by the Dolphins.
The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Long is widely considered the top offensive lineman available in the draft and a top-10 selection. Long, who started 40 games during his college career, finished second in the voting for both the Lombardi Award and the Outland Trophy last season.

Boldin recently met with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and informed him that he would like to be traded. The Cardinals told Boldin they were unwilling to trade him, but would consider exploring the possibility of a new contract with him.
Boldin is scheduled to make $2.5 million this season, $2.75 million next season and $3 million in 2010 -– considerably less than the four-year, $40 million extension that wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald signed with Arizona last month.
For now, Arizona has taken the same stance as Cincinnati has with its disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson, who has the same agent, Drew Rosenhaus, as Boldin. The Cardinals have made it clear they are unwilling to trade Boldin.
General manager Rod Graves said Tuesday night that he views Boldin as one of the franchise's building blocks, a core player, and he is not interested in trading him.
But it is up to another team such as Washington that already has made an offer for Johnson to see if it could persuade Arizona to surrender Boldin.
It all adds to the intrigue of draft week. And it all creates a situation in Arizona that is similar to the one in Cincinnati.
New Orleans Saints are looking to trade up for Troy CB Leodis McKelvin. The Saints worked McKelvin out Tuesday, April 22, and came away very impressed. The Saints are afraid the New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens will get McKelvin, so they are looking to move up from No. 10 overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.

.quote:Contrary to recent comments from folks like NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the players in the NFL want to change the manner in which rookies are paid.
The players don’t want to change the manner in which all rookies are paid, just the handful at the top of the board who get increasingly obscene amounts of money despite never having attended an NFL game without a ticket
quote:The NFL has issued a statement regarding the status of negotiations with former Patriots employee Matt Walsh.
An agreement has been completed between the NFL and Matt Walsh that will allow Mr. Walsh, a former videotape operator with the New England Patriots, to share with the NFL information about activities occurring during his employment with the club from 1997-2003,” the statement reads.
Commissioner Roger Goodell will meet with Walsh in the league office on May 13. The interview with Mr. Walsh will seek to determine whether he has any new information about that videotaping practice or other possible violations of league rules,” the NFL said. Under the agreement, Walsh must return any tapes or other items in his possession that belong to the team. The league and the Patriots have promised not to sue him. And the league and the Patriots “will indemnify him for any expenses, including legal fees that he incurs in connection with the interview.”
Die Lito Sheppard word werkelijk in elk mogelijke trade door de Eagles er bij gegooid.quote:Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Cardinals have declined a trade offer from the Redskins for wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Per ESPN, the Philadelphia Eagles also have asked whether Boldin is available and have offered cornerback Lito Sheppard as part of a trade.

een ding weet ik zeker "5) Cardinals (from the Chiefs) - Chris Long (need a DE worth to trade up for)" dat gaat niet gebeurenquote:Op woensdag 23 april 2008 19:45 schreef Guard het volgende:
Fok! Mock:
1) Dolphins - Jake Long pretty sure got that one right
2) Saints (from the Rams) - Glenn Dorsey
3) Jets (from the Falcons) - Darren McFadden
4) Raiders - Vernon Gholston
5) Cardinals (from the Chiefs) - Chris Long (need a DE worth to trade up for)
6) Falcons (from the Jets) - Matt Ryan
7) Patriots - Leodis McCalvin
8) Ravens - Derrick Harvey
9) Bengals - Sedrick Ellis
10) Rams (from the Saints) - Ryan Clady
11) Bills - Devin Thomas (reach but a big need in thin WR class)
12) Broncos - Chris Williams
13) Panthers - Rashard Mendenhall
14) Bears - Jeff Otah
15) Lions - Jerod Mayo
16) Chiefs (from the Cardinals) - Branden Albert
17) Chiefs (from the Vikings) - Felix Jones
18) Texans - Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie
19) Eagles - Kenny Philips
20) Buccaneers - Mike Jenkins
21) Redskins - Limas Sweed
22) Cowboys (from the Browns) - Aqib Talib
23) Steelers - Gosder Cherilus
24) Titans - DeSean Jackson
25) Seahawks - Jonathan Steward
26) Jaguars - Philip Merling
27) Chargers - Antoine Cason
28) Cowboys - James Hardy
29) 49-ers (from the Colts) - Dan Connor
30) Packers - Kentwan Balmer
31) N.A.
32) Giants - Tyrell Johnson
quote:The Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans have agreed in principle on a trade for suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Dallas will send its fourth-round pick in Saturday's draft to the Titans for Jones.
There are also conditions attached to the trade related to Jones being reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and how much he plays for the Cowboys. If he plays a significant amount of time in 2008, the Titans will get an additional pick from the Cowboys in 2009.
If he doesn't get reinstated by the NFL, the Titans will send an undisclosed 2009 draft pick back to the Cowboys.
Also, Pacman has reached a financial settlement with the Titans regarding his contract situation. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Jones must pay $500,000 to a charity chosen by the Titans sometime in the next two years. He will receive a new contract from the Cowboys.
ESPN NFL reporters Ed Werder and Chris Mortensen contributed to this report.

Details over de Pacman Jones signing:quote:SportsBusiness Daily is reporting that Brett Favre will be the cover athlete for the upcoming "Madden NFL 09," video game. The game, which is set for an early August release, will be the 20th installment for the video game.
Overig nieuws:quote:Upon being traded to the Cowboys, suspended CB Pacman Jones signed a four-year contract that included no signing bonus. Also included are annual roster bonuses, making it basically a year-to-year agreement. This protects Dallas against Pacman making any more off-field mistakes. If Jones is reinstated before this season, he'll get an advance on his 2008 salary. That basically replaces any signing bonus.
