Die hadden we nu nog heel goed kunnen gebruiken ja. Maar dat was wel een wat moeilijk verhaal, hij stond reserve achter Keane en Berbatov die het fantastisch deden, Bent was er ook nog en Defoe's contract liep niet lang meer. Dat je hem dan voor een redelijk bedrag verkoopt is op zich niet zo gek, wel jammer. Wees daar niet zo zeker van. Als één van die spelers écht wegwil, dan is dat contract niet zoveel waard (zie Gomes, Robinho)

However, the Frenchman's departure now appears imminent and, although the job title might change, Levy still wants to keep a 'director of football' figure to help liaise with him on transfer targets.
Having a sporting director has come under scrutiny after Frank Arneson held the position from May 2004 until June 2005.
Benoit Assou-Ekottu, Adel Taarabt, Didier Zokora, Ricardo Rocha, Hossam Ghaly, Darren Bent, Kevin-Prince Boating, Aaron Lennon and Younes Kaboul have all provided limited value for considerable transfer fees following Comolli's appointment in 2005, although he can take particular credit for the signing of Dimitar Berbatov, whose value rose by almost £19 million in the space of two years.
New arrivals Luka Modric, David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko have all struggled to make any real impact, although Comolli's predicament is more about the players Tottenham have not signed.
Given the torturous nature of Martin Jol's departure and the eventual appointment of Ramos last year, the reluctance to consider making another managerial change is hardly surprising.
Ramos, who has described the club's predicament at the bottom of the Premier League table with two points from eight matches as "terrible", is only 12 months into a £4 million-a-year contract that does not expire until 2011.
Levy hopes Comolli's departure will placate supporters who are planning a protest, calling for the chairman to resign, at this Sunday's Premier League game against Bolton at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham face Arsenal three days after that match - with Liverpool to follow, three days later - and yesterday Arsene Wenger backed the under-fire Comollui, describing his former European scout as "quality".
