THIERRY HENRY last night remained at the centre of the transfer saga of the summer by refusing to commit his long-term future to Arsenal.

Henry and his representatives have been quick to deny that he has already hammered out a deal with Spanish giants Barcelona.

But Mirror Sport can reveal it is AC Milan who currently stand a better chance of signing Henry if the French striker decides to leave Arsenal this summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is determined to keep Henry as he steps up attempts to sign Ajax forward Ryan Babel in a £6million deal.

It leaves Henry, 29, at the centre of a three-way battle for his services and Arsenal still believe they can keep him.

Barca, who are ready to open the bidding for Henry at £15m and pay him £6m per year for a three-season deal with a 12-month option, have made no secret of their desire to sign the Gunners skipper.

And they have been regarded as the clear favourites to sign him. But the saga turned ugly this week when Henry was enraged by claims in the French media that a deal was already done.

That was an own goal on Barcelona's part which is likely to drive headstrong Henry towards Milan.

The Frenchman is a proud and honourable man and he was disappointed at what he sees as the Spanish club's underhand tactics.

Henry branded Barca's claims as "absolutely rubbish", but said he could do nothing to prevent "rumours" about his future escalating.

He admitted last week it was "great and nice" to hear Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti say he wanted to sign him.

But there is still a strong feeling Henry will stay at the Emirates as long as mentor Wenger remains at the club.

Yet, before boarding a flight to the USA, where he was watching pal Tony Parker play for San Antonio Spurs in the NBA play-offs at Cleveland today, Henry failed to take the opportunity to end the speculation. He said: "I've got nothing to say."
