Accounting for the tonal differences between the two shows — one of the nits picked by those lukewarm to Practice — McPherson said, "We're not doing an imitation of Grey's. Grey's was a show about these young interns who know nothing, don’t know each other and are thrown into this world. [Private Practice presents] a world where people know each other – really well, in some cases – and the complications that result when your life hasn’t necessarily turned out the way you want it to, and you're trying to change it."

At the fore, of course, is Kate Walsh's Dr. Addison Montgomery, whose journey thus far, McPherson notes, "has really captivated people." "It's amazing that a character who can come in as a bitch on wheels becomes some people's favorite," he marveled. "We want to carry that into the world in L.A."

Om heel eerlijk te zijn, vind ik Private Practice maar een goedkope manier om een succes formule volledig uit te melken. Neem een karakter uit een goedlopende serie, plak er een ander label op en de kassa kan weer gaan rinkelen . Ik blijf lekker bij GA.

I've seen the first official episode and I'm afraid I have depressing news: It's actually worse than last May's grating backdoor pilot. The only good things I can say about it is that Audra McDonald is a much better fit in the role of Naomi than Merrin Dungey was, and Paul Adelstein solidified his status as TV's next great leading man. The rest of it is painful beyond belief — and I take no pleasure in saying that. Some shows I love beating up on (see One Tree Hill), but there are far too many talented people involved in PP to get any pleasure out of knocking it. I feel particularly sorry for Amy Brenneman, whose subplot is so shamelessly contrived I wouldn't wish it on William Fichtner my worst enemy. Consider yourself warned.
