Ik had het God Says No Topic hiervoor omhoog willen halen, maar dit is natuurlijk een stuk makkelijker .

Had de video overigens al ingesteld en mijn MonsterMagnet video(verzameling TV interviews en live optredens) al in gepropt.

Gister (krankzinnig) interview met (ik geloof) Josh Homme van Queens of the Sone Age op TMF gezien. In Duitsland toert QotSA samen met Monster Magnet. Historisch moment: ik baalde even dat ik geen Duitser was .

Weet iemand overigens wanneer QOTSA in NL toert?

ik heb ze sinds dopes of infinity niet meer zo gevolgd maar die cd beluister ik nog regelmatig met de volumeknop op 6

We speelden vroeger altijd "Ego, the living planet" met de band. Misschien wel leuk om dat nummer nog eens op de setlist te zetten.

Ik heb het laatste stuk ook ff gezien/hoort en vond het tochwel rocken! Dacht dat ik Monster Magnet geen zak aan vond maar heb m'n mening bijgesteld kwam waarschijnlijk doordat ik maar een nummer kende vraag me niet hoe het heet(space lord dus) maar de clip was een parodie op de clip van ik geloof ene rapper Mase ofzo Maar ze zijn dus live goed en dat vind ik heel belangrijk! zoniet het belangrijkste

Well I guess you all thought we fell off the face of the earth didn't you? Sorry for not keeping up on the site but we've been in a kind of limbo ever since Dave hurt his knee (which, by the way, is fine now). Lots of crap has been happening which caused us to stop touring and reassess how we do what we do. Without going into much detail right now, we are trying to get things straightened out between us and some of the people and organizations that are supposed to be working for us but appear to have been working against us (or not working at all). Unfortunately, there is a lot more to being in a band then just getting on stage and playing music. Sometimes you have to deal with the business end of the music business which always sucks! And this just happens to be one of those times for us. Don't get discouraged we try to look at it every day so keep it up. Anyway, many of the things I've been eluding to here should become crystal clear in the coming weeks so just keep yr shirts on.

MonsterMagnet speelt behalve op Fields of Rock ook in Hardenberg, op 14 juni.

Zijn er nog liefhebbers die daarheen gaan?

sinds vandaag ga ik naar Fields of Rock..

monster magnet, tja, wat kan ik er over zeggen. paar keer live gezien. eerste keer effenaar, laatste keer nighttown en tussendoor nog twee keer op lowlands en nog wat losse shows her en der. hun eerste paar platen zijn heel fijn, tab 25 is een toppertje in het tripgenre, spine of god en dopes to infinity zijn allebei ook erg goed en superjudge vond ik altijd wat minder, waarschijnlijk omdat het net even iets teveel hawkwind epigonisme was. na dopes to infinity vond ik het zwaar de foute kant opgaan met monster magnet. allereerst kwam ik er achter dat dave wyndorf zich veel jonger voordoet dan hij in werkelijkheid is. daarnaast vond ik hun liveshows niet meer zo sterk, de spanning was er een beetje uit vond ik. kyuss bleef wel ronken en hief zichzelf uiteindelijk op. maar wat me vooral het meest tegen is gaan staan is die act met die brandende gitaar, ik heb een paar shows achter elkaar gezien en elke keer werd die gitaar (waarschijnlijk een rondo ofzoiets) in doeken gewikkeld met brandbaar spul en ging hij er mee staan rond staan zwaaien, flauw effectbejag. wyndorf deed tijdens die show ook pogingen om die gitaar kapot te slaan maar elke keer stopte hij net voor hij met die gitaar het podium ging raken. niet een keer gezien, nee, meerdere keren heb ik hem dat zien doen tijdens verschillende shows. erg nepperig allemaal. sinds die periode ging hij ook steeds vreemder doen, behoorlijk speedy, maar zijn spieren groeiden ook dus ik vermoed toch het gebruik van anabolen. rare shit. (ik weet niets zeker maar ik vermoed het een en ander). nou ja en toen kwam powertrip uit, de titel is natuurlijk een verwijzing naar MC5, en die plaat deed mijn broek afzakken. stonerrock was voor mij een levenstijl maar dit klonk allemaal wel erg ongeloofwaardig. het leek wel of elke YEAH apart was ingezongen, soms wel meerdere YEAH'S door elkaar. ik vond het echt teveel over de top. spacelord werd vervolgens gecleared van het woordje motherfucker en toen was het voor mij gedaan met monster magnet. powertrip vind ik een slechte plaat die niet kan tippen aan het gevoel wat ik nog steeds krijg bij oudere platen. god says no heb ik helemaal overgeslagen. wel eens geluisterd maar ik geloofde wyndorf niet meer, het geheel komt gewoon niet meer oprecht over. powertrip en godsaysno hebben samen met die laatste paar concerten die ik zag behoorlijk wat glans van hun imago afgesnoept. zo erg dat ik hun platen jaren niet meer gedraaid heb. spine of god en dopes liggen nog weleens op de draaitafel maar eigenlijk meer als herinnering aan perfecte tijden met vrienden etc etc.
ik hoorde dat er een nieuwe plaat uitkomt, maar ik hoorde ook dat hij twee bandleden heeft ontslagen omdat hij vond dat ze niet genoeg input gave mbt de band.

In other news, the unofficial MONSTER MAGNET web site A Tribute To Monster Magnet recently conducted an interview with MONSTER MAGNET mainman Dave Wyndorf in which they discussed Calandra and Kleiman`s departures and the band`s forthcoming CD (tentatively titled "Radiation Day"), among other topics.

The following are some of the highlights of that interview:

On Calandra and Kleiman`s departures from the band:

Dave Wyndorf: "Jon and Joe were let go because of their lack of enthusiasm for the music. MONSTER MAGNET is about energy and creativity and these guys weren`t giving either of these. We were together for a long time and it was a fun ride, but the fact of the matter is they just didn`t dig it enough. This was not a split due to musical differences, it was due to their general indifference. From the very start, I welcomed these guys to be a part of the band in any capacity they wished. I love this shit and I work fast and furious, yet very meticulously. Jon and Joe either couldn`t or wouldn`t keep up. I think they thought this whole thing was a goof. That was cool though, if they didn`t want to be conceptually involved, I`ve got enough vision to go around. They never took MONSTER MAGNET seriously until they saw the money. Even then, they rarely had anything to say about musical direction. There was no love for the music. In fact they seemed to have an overall self-image problem going on (fear of rocking). Their motto soon became `We don`t know what`s going on, it`s Dave`s band.` When it came time to make musical decisions, offer ideas and generally be part of the team, they sat on the fence and did nothing, waiting for me to deliver my songs and vision. Again, I had no problem with this because I love to write songs. It`s what I do. If those guys wanted to come along for the ride then that was fine, let`s rock. I had high hopes that their enthusiasm would grow. Sadly, that was not the case. In my opinion the musical relationship between drummer and bass player is the beginning and end of a good band. If those two can`t get it together as a rhythm section, arrangements have to be made to ensure the music doesn`t suffer. From the very start, these arrangements were made, from redoing bass parts to supplementing drummers. The music always comes first with me. It is impossible to act as a real band when the rhythm section of that band is consistently ten steps behind. Rock out or get out! This was not an easy decision to make, old loyalties run deep and I really like Joe and Jon as people. But laziness, petty complaints and lack of commitment are not the ingredients of my kind of rock n` roll band. I have a responsibility to Ed and Phil, I have a responsibility to MONSTER MAGNET fans and most of all a responsibility for the music we make. OK, I`ve said enough. Music is where it`s at. If you love what you do and you are proud of your work, good things will happen. I`ve never had any doubt. I wish good luck to Joe and Jon and hope they find something to be as passionate about as I have with MONSTER MAGNET."

"After the Superjudge tour, Joe and Jon realized you can make money writing songs and all of a sudden wanted to be in on it. So I told them, as I had all along, if you wanna write songs for MAGNET, write songs for MAGNET. They came back with two tunes to my 20, and I put them on `Dopes To Infinity`. Those two being `Theme From Masterburner` and `I Control`. Both songs co-written and arranged by me. Let me tell you something about writing songs. You`ve got to put your all into this shit, man. This is music! Songs! Rock `n roll! I live and play music every day of my life. In the early days of MAGNET, I would write songs in my head while at my day job then go home and write for four to five hours more and all weekend. These guys treated songwriting as a chore at worst and a paycheck at best. This shit does not fly with me! Music first, money second. Still, the door was always open for them to contribute, but what little material they did submit later lacked passion. I couldn`t do anything with it. What can I say? You`ve gotta love it and they didn`t! Being in a band means contributing in anyway you can. I don`t care what anyone says, it`s easy! Spiritual support, pride and enthusiasm are major contributions that make for great music, no matter who`s writing the songs. No time for crybabies! For the record, every member of MONSTER MAGNET was in for a cut of my publishing just for being in the band. That`s fair. Also for the record, all my songs written for MONSTER MAGNET were always delivered in a recorded demo form complete with drum patterns, bass parts, melody lines and arrangements played by myself. It`s just faster that way. I was always open to reinterpretation but that rarely happened and never to the extent of rewriting. The slowest process in MONSTER MAGNET has always been in between the writing and the recording. Therefore it always made sense to me to write at my own pace and deliver the songs as a more or less complete record. In many cases, a song that took me a day or two to write would take weeks for the rhythm section to learn. Practice tapes were made and never listened to. That`s bullshit and it`s no fun. Did I mention that music is supposed to be fun? It is! I am pleased to say that this situation is being rectified as I speak."

On the forthcoming album ("Radiation Day"):

Dave Wyndorf: "The album will be a lot livelier than `God Says No`. It`s full-on rock with garage pysch overtones and was written during a pretty scary yet exciting time in the world`s history. It`s not a political record but I can`t say that world events in the last two years haven`t juiced me to a certain extent. My songs are always subject to my environment and that`s how it should be."

MONSTER MAGNET, who have yet to secure a record deal outside the European territory, hope to enter the studio this summer to record "Radiation Day" for a tentative late 2003 release. Among the tracks set to appear on the effort are "Master Of Light", "On the Verge", "Slut Machine Mach 2", "Ultimate Everything" and "Little Bag Of Gloom". The band will also be the subject of a "greatest hits" album, to be issued through their previous label Interscope Records (A&M) later this summer.

nou ik ben benieuwd wat hier van terecht moet komen. ik vond die drummer nou juist zo goed in het geheel passen.

Yep, ook ik ben erg blij dat ze op Fields gaan spelen! Ik heb ze enkele malen gezien in de clubs (nighttown!) wat zwaar ok was. Ben wel benieuwd of ze de sfeer die ze in de clubs neerzetten ook in de openlucht kunnen bewerkstelligen.

Heb ze voor het eerste gezien tijdens de Superjudge tour, samen met vrienden die ze de Spine of God tour ook gezien hadden. Het hele concert was zo'n speced out experience dat ik nog meer fan werd dan ik al was door de CD's. Volgens mij ruim 10 jaar geleden. Superjudge vind ik dus wel een steengoed album, net als Spine of God en de eerste helft van Dopes. Vanaf de tweede helft van Spine of God is het minder hoewel er nog steeds enorm sterke nummers tussen zitten. GodSaysNo vond ik eigenlijk wel tegenvallen.

Heb vele concerten van ze gezien: ook twee dagen achter elkaar (eerst Amsterdam, daarna Rotterdam en zo). Dat gedoe met die gitaar in de fik vond ik de eerste keer wel geinig maar bij de tweede keer alweer minder (laat staan de derde en vierde keer). Vind echter dat Dave -die ik ook wel eens op een soort afterparty in een tent in Amsterdam gesproken heb- er redelijk relativerend over kan spreken.

Het is niet meer DE band -Kyuss/QOTSA/JoshHomme is/zijn constanter in kwaliteit, ook live- maar het blijft altijd een band die ik wil blijven zien als ze on tour zijn.
