Discussion with people who feel emotionally involved with certain issues is at the least very difficult . Even reasonable discussion is just not possible because reasoning goes out of the window.
Shocked, outraged, sentimental, sensitive people or people blinded by certain emotions are also most likely easier manipulated into believing a story. And then they get even more upset if you mention they are too influenced by feelings of empathy for example….so they get emotional about discussing emotion.
The fake terror events are also called psychological operations for a reason. They are designed to upset people.
All you need is an emotive story and way too much trust in the storyteller and there you have it.
It’s nothing new - confidence tricksters and fraudsters use this tactic too. Criminals will use an emotional aspect in a lie as an attempt to gain sympathy and/or some form of understanding.
If we really want to find the truth about anything, we can’t let emotions get in the way.
