,,Ja, die zal sowieso meer risico's hebben genomen. Maar ook op de stukken dat hij wel kon trappen heeft hij nog tijd op mij gewonnen. Zijn tijd verbaast me zeker. Hij heeft hier een hele goede tijdrit gereden."

Tot zaterdag leek alles roze wat jij in deze Giro deed?

,,Het gaat de afgelopen dagen niet meer zo lekker. De aankomst bergop op Roccaraso, waar ik nog tijd op de meeste klassementsrenners won, was eigenlijk mijn laatste goede dag. De tijdrit was fysiek wel oké. Maar ik zat nog altijd niet echt lekker op mijn fiets."

Is dat te herleiden naar je zitvlakblessure?

,,Ik vind het moeilijk om te stellen of dat dé reden is. Maar ik kan wel stellen dat deze zitvlakblessure niet fijn voelt. Ik ben blij dat er morgen een rustdag is zodat mijn zitvlak ook de kans krijgt om te herstellen. Qua benen ging het vandaag wel iets beter."

Je staat nu zevende in het klassement op 58 seconde van Gianlucca Brambilla. Biedt dat nog perspectief?

,,Nee, het klassement heb ik eigenlijk zaterdag al uit mijn hoofd gezet. Het was leuk geweest om vandaag die roze trui terug te veroveren. Maar ik wist dat ik die trui dan in een van de volgende bergritten sowieso weer zou verliezen. Ik ga ergens de komende week tijd verliezen om me daarna in de lange ontsnappingen te gooien voor de ritwinst. Het klassement telt niet meer voor mij.”

The day didn’t started well for me, at 9 o clock I went to check the course, it was raining, that last U corner before the finish line didn’t impress me either. The usual warm up and procedures before the start and the time was quickly 13:20. Only 2 minutes to start when I leave for the ramp, and the race commissar tells me that my bike is too long. WHAT?! As usual in those situations, there is no one from my team, finally I find the team car and sports director gives me a spare bike, I arrived at the start line 20 seconds before I start. Then I realized, the saddle is too low, I don’t have any bottles, and I am cursing. You are really out of luck Rogla, I say to myself. . In that moment there I only wanted to survive the TT, safely through the corners. At approximately 10 k of the race, my Pioneer (meter) flies from my handlebars and hits the ground. I tried to show to my team car that I have lost something, but had no luck with that either. I was angry and felt good on the climb, and since I’ve lost the meter I had to go all in, ful gas. At the end I suffered and thought that I will break the handlebars….Died! I was fast enough to run away before the heavy rain. The waiting for the results was long and stressful, but I couldn’t change anything at that point anymore and it turned out to be very well done. That was the longest TT I ever did in my life, I don’t mind being on top, and once again I got the confirmation that fight till the ens is always a good decision, tomorrow luckily there is a rest day, but the plan for the next stages stays the same – fight fight fight! Thank you for the congratulations, and one more thing: the picture is taken few years back, when I started one of my first recreational climbs. In a way that is where my road started on a borrowed MTB and it is very good to see, what fascinating things life sets for you, if you are brave enough to take the road. I have better equipment now, that is sure!😀

The UCI race commissaires decided to penalize Alexey Tsatevich, according to UCI Article 12.1.040/40.1 (Failure to respect regulation distances and gaps between riders [slip-streaming]) with 100 CHF fine and 6 minutes 48 seconds penalty in the stage classification. Team KATUSHA however judged that this measure was not enough for such poor and unacceptable behavior and pulled the rider out of the race.

- First of all, on behalf of Team KATUSHA, I would like to apologize for Alexey Tsatevich’s behavior during the time trial. The way Tsatevich rode yesterday’s stage was absolutely unacceptable. First of all, he broke the clear rule, known by every professional rider. In addition, he also showed a great lack of respect for his rival, the rider who caught him on the course. Moreover, he absolutely ignored the team plan for the day, provided and requested by the sports director. His behavior has a huge and negative impact on the image of cycling in general and Team KATUSHA in particular. Accepting the commissaires penalty was not enough for us; we had to take more severe measures. It is not easy to enter the second week of the race with just 8 riders, but I am convinced we’ve made the right decision, - said sports director Dmitry Konyshev.
