Why did the filmakers of the animated movie Barnyard put utters on the Male Cows? Subject: Re: utters on male cows in Barnyard

The udders on the "male cows" aren't meant to be gender
characteristics: they are just props for generating laughs. Steve
Oedekerk, the creator of "Barnyard," has said that he simply finds
udders to be funny.
"Do Californians have no concept of biology? Oedekerk has said in
published interviews that he is quite aware that bulls don't have
udders, but udders are funny and so that's the way he wanted to draw
them."

http://www.keyframeonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388"Why do the male cattle in the movie Barnyard have udders? Because
director Steve Oedekerk says cows are funnier than bulls, that?s why.
And he?s right."
Philadelphia Weekly Online: Wombat out of Hell
http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/view.php?id=12882"The film doesn?t go for the ultra realism of other CGI efforts, but
adopts an appropriate comic page look. (Yes, there are no bulls, just
'male cows' - and they have udders. Why? As Oedekerk explains, 'Udders
are funny.')"

http://kcactive.com/aande/reel/reel2006_08.htm#barnyard"Little were they anticipating controversy. But now, the 'Barnyard'
folks are faced with one relentless question that just won't go away:
Why do the movie's boy cows have udders?
'It's funny. For something that I spent, probably, .002 seconds on,
it's become quite the talk,' says Steve Oedekerk, Barnyard's
writer-director-producer. 'There was never a real decision made. I get
a lot of images that pop into my head. I've always thought cows are
kind of funny animals - and udders are funny.
'They're not there to define gender,' Oedekerk soberly clarifies. 'In
the movie, the men are clearly men, the women are clearly women.
There's no weird stuff that's going on. It just looks funny'."
