The latest information about the release of the new album from Queen + Paul Rodgers - working title "The Cosmos Rocks" - this is coming to EU and the UK Monday 15 September 2008 and to the US and Canada on Tuesday 14 October 2008.

Look out for the first plays of the new Queen + Paul Rodgers single on UK Radio as of next week.
- Radio 2: Ken Bruce Show next Monday 4 August between 9.30am-noon. The track will then hopefully get more airs before going into playlist the following week.
- Virgin Radio: The track will be played from noon onwards that day (Monday 4th August).

As stated in the May issue of Rollingstone: The first single will likely be “C-lebrity,” which sounds like a mash-up of the brawny “All Right Now” and the harmony-soaked “Somebody to Love.” Other tracks include “We Believe,” an “epic in Queen’s traditional style,” according to May, and “Call Me,” which he says sounds like it would fit right in on Queen’s 1974 classic, Sheer Heart Attack.

The first thing you notice about The Cosmos Rocks, the much anticipated first album from rock legends Queen + Paul Rodgers is “all tracks written by Queen and Paul Rodgers”…”produced and performed by Brian May, Paul Rodgers and Roger Taylor” (indicating that between them they played all instruments, including bass - Paul and Brian swapping duties - in case you were going to ask). This is obviously not a case of Rodgers lightly stepping in to fill a vocal gap, as some might have been drawn to assume would be the case when the three of them got into the studio together.

No, this is a full bodied, group endeavour: May, Rodgers and Taylor in a totally democratic union, even down to equally sharing the credits. The album’s dedication to legendary Queen front man ‘Freddie Mercury,’ (you’ll also see thanks credits to John Deacon and Paul Kossoff) shows the band mates still feel his presence strongly enough to dedicate this entirely new work to him, nearly 13 years on from Queen’s last studio album.

You also wonder how Rodgers who takes control as main vocalist on all thirteen tracks here feels about his work being dedicated to the man whose fans still worship at the altar of the pre-Mercury demise Queen.

But then thinking about it, it doesn’t seem quite so strange. Brian May and Roger Taylor have, after all, never shied from acknowledging the mighty presence Mercury provided to the band on stage and the wonders of his extraordinary creativity in the studio. Mostly, they acknowledge how even today, they still miss ‘dear Fred’.

In the case of Rodgers, he can stand assured in the fact that Mercury always rated him as one of the best rock voices of his time. It is public record that Mercury would make a point of dropping into the Marquee or any number of other London venues when Rodgers was performing with his band Free. Mercury often in his past acknowledged Free’s Fire and Water as one of the albums to most influence Queen. On top of this, Rodgers has now played enough sold-out and wildly received dates as Queen + Paul Rodgers to know that it works, and that the acceptance is there. You only had to be there at last month’s Nelson Mandela 90th birthday concert to feel the heat from the audience to the band’s blinding set.

It all makes perfect sense when you get the opportunity to see what the band have to say about the sessions:

“We went in and played, every day, and ALL kinds of things happened, little bits of chemistry happening between us. It’s good, organic music.

“There's a lot of guitar orchestras and some of our old trademarks, but at the core of it you'll hear the three of us playing. People really, truly playing together in the studio - you don't get that much these days. But, you will get it on their new album.

“Do they still call them 'albums'? I don't even know. But this is really, we believe, an Album in the old sense of the word - something you can put on and listen to all the way through, and it takes you on a journey ... the subjects and moods in it are widely spaced - but nevertheless, a challenge to the listener to put his day on hold for an hour or so, be drawn in, make connections, and experience something new.

“These days it has seemed to us that few people have this in mind - CD's by large tend to be a collection of songs, often produced by different teams, assembled in random sequence - with the idea that folks will shuffle the order on their iPods anyway. Of course you always have that option! But our teachers were the Beatles, Hendrix, blues + soul and ... you know where we’re going with this. “

The Cosmos Rocks was recorded and mixed at Taylor’s The Priory studio between November 2007 and August 2008, and co-produced and engineered by Joshua J Macrae, Justin Shirley-Smith and Kris Fredriksson. It marks the first album of newly recorded material from Queen + Paul Rodgers since they first set out on the road in 2005, and the first Queen studio album since 1995.

A first single from the album, “C-lebrity” is released September 8 in enhanced CD, 7”, and digital formats. Versions contain exclusive performances of Queen + Paul Rodgers live performances of “Show Must Go On” and “Fire and Water” filmed during Q + PR’s 2005 Japanese tour.

The track, according to Roger Taylor – and seemingly much in keeping with many on The Cosmos Rocks – is the writers’ skew on the times in which we live: “’C-lebrity’ is really a comment on the current concept of fame - success and all that goes with it. Getting your face on TV is enough - talent doesn't really enter into the equation. ‘Celebrity’ is an overused and devalued word today. I think the song shows we have lost none of the humour of Queen!”

Other tracks on The Cosmos Rocks include “Cosmos Rockin’”, “Time To Shine”, “Still Burnin'” (a mission statement of why artists are compelled to create), “Small”, “Warboys”, “We Believe”, “Call Me”, “Voodoo”, “Some Things That Glitter”, “Through The Night”, “Say It's Not True” (a new version of the track donated to Nelson Mandela’s 46664 HIV Aids campaign), and “Surf's Up, School's Out”.

The album is released in three physical formats: standard CD, deluxe package which includes additional DVD featuring 15 highlight performances by Queen + Paul Rodgers from the band’s Super Live in Japan concert recorded live at Saitama Super Arena, Tokyo on 27th October 2005, along with double gate-fold vinyl release. The album will also have a special digital release including bonus tracks.

Coinciding with the release of The Cosmos Rocks, Queen + Paul
Rodgers embark on a 33-date Europe and Northern Eurasia tour beginning mid-September. The tour reaches the UK on October 10 with 11 dates including two at London 02 and the tour’s final date at Wembley Arena on November 8.

AMSTERDAM - Het nieuwe studioalbum van Queen wordt opgedragen aan de zanger die de legendarische rockband heeft grootgemaakt, wijlen Freddie Mercury. Dat heeft platenmaatschappij EMI Music bekendgemaakt.

'The cosmos rocks', dat op 12 september verschijnt, is het eerste album van Queen sinds 1995. Mercury overleed in 1991 aan de gevolgen van hiv.

Productie

Het is de eerste plaat die is gemaakt door de oorspronkelijke bandleden Brian May en Roger Taylor in samenwerking met zanger Paul Rodgers. Hij heeft de dertien nummers voor 'The cosmos rocks' samen met May en Taylor geschreven en geproduceerd. Het drietal toert sinds 2005 als Queen + Paul Rodgers en dat is ook de naam waaronder het album wordt uitgebracht.

Humor

Het nieuwe album is opgenomen tussen november vorig jaar en augustus dit jaar. De eerste single, 'C-lebrity', verschijnt op 8 september en stelt de huidige sterrencultus aan de kaak. "Het is genoeg om met je gezicht op tv te verschijnen, talent heeft daar eigenlijk niets mee te maken", stelt Taylor, de drummer van de band. "Ik denk dat dit nummer laat zien dat de humor van Queen niet verloren is gegaan."

Nieuw

Naast 'C-lebrity' staan op de nieuwe cd nummers als 'Cosmos rockin', 'Warboys', 'We believe' en 'Voodoo'. De plaat wordt uitgebracht in een standaardversie, maar ook als speciale uitgave, met een dvd waarop liveopnamen te vinden zijn.

Tournee

May, Taylor en Rodgers gaan volgende maand op tournee. De toer gaat op 15 september van start in Moskou en doet vervolgens steden aan als Berlijn, Rome, Londen en Barcelona. Op 7 oktober geeft de band een optreden in Ahoy Rotterdam. De toer eindigt op 8 november met een concert in de Londense Wembley Arena.

Queen + Paul Rodgers Support the Call
With ANITAIDS Concert In Kharkov Freedom Square

Queen + Paul Rodgers will head a massive outdoor concert in one of Europe’s biggest public squares ahead of the start of their forthcoming European tour to support Ukraine’s Anti-Aids campaign.

Promoting the message “Don’t let AIDS to ruin your life!", Queen will perform a free concert in Kharkov’s historic Freedom Square on September 12. The concert is expected to attract more than 100,000 to Europe’s second-largest city-centre square.

Supported by Queen’s own HIV AIDS charity, The Mercury Phoenix Trust, the free concert is being organized by the Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and is being devoted to the fight against AIDS in the Ukraine.

Coming just a week after the birthday of their lost lead singer – Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991 – the concert aims to reinforce the message of the Ukrainian ANTIAIDS Foundation that the need to protect ourselves and our families remains as urgent as ever.

The concert will be broadcast live on Ukraine’s Noviy Channel which will reach into homes right across the country. It will be a prelude to the launch the following day on the national channel of a new five year ANTIADS campaign , “On the Edge” being fronted by the Elena Franchuk Foundation which aims to tackle head-on the growing threat of HIV AIDS infection in the country.

For Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, now joined by legendary rock vocalist and writer Paul Rodgers, the concert is one of many the band has played to address the issue of HIV AIDS. In June the band joined a host of international stars in London’s Hyde Park at the 46664 concert to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday and generate further awareness of the work being done by Mandela’s HIV AIDS organization.

Elena Franchuk, Founder of the ANTIAIDS Foundation said: “We’ve chosen Kharkov for this concert – it is the biggest city of our country after Kiev with a population of 1.5 million as is at its heart a student city. For this reason it is a perfect setting for the concert: the greatest incidence of new HIV cases is registered among young people between 15-25 living in the big urban areas. After the great success of the Elton John concert we organized in Kiev in the main square in 2007 we decided to take the message of our HIV/AIDS problem not only to the capital cities but to our youth all over Ukraine. I strongly believe there are no better speakers for the cause than the founders of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor, joined as they now are by Paul Rodgers.

Freedom Square in Kharkov is the second largest square in Europe and the sixth largest square in the world. A week before the concert a large stage with the Queen + Paul Rodgers branded podium will be set up at the center of Kharkov, where the band will step up on September, 12.

Queen + Paul Rodgers' appearance will be the focus of addressing a public audience on the issue of AIDS. Everyone attending the concert will have an opportunity to receive a special gift of thanks from the band – the opportunity to download on their cell phones through Bluetooth the ringtone of their hit Say It’s Not True, penned especially for Nelson Mandela’s 466664 Aids Foundation and the current single C-lebrity.

During their visit to the Ukraine Queen + Paul Rodgers will join Elena Franchuk at a special press conference in Kiev on September 11 and a visit to Red University where they will discuss with a group of students the subject of world efforts being made to address HIV/AIDS.

In the lead up to the concert over 200 volunteers will work at the square before the concert – mainly students of Kharkov’s Universities - distributing free condoms and information about HIV/AIDS. A few days before the concert social the square will host a newly created poster exhibition devoted to the HIV/AIDS problem.

As a further initiative entered into with city government support, volunteers will be engaged at five subway stations and in fifteen Universities in Kharkov. Graffiti painters will also make their contribution into this campaign – they will decorate walls at the Freedom Square with the drawings devoted to the AIDS problem.

But the collaboration of Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and Queen is not limited to the September concert. The two are further discussing the possibility of issuing a commemorative special live concert DVD which will contribute after the event to the charitable projects involved in the fight against AIDS.

On February 1992 during the “BRIT Awards” Freddie was posthumously honoured for his “Outstanding Prominent contribution to British music”. During the ceremony Brian and Rodger announced that they were planning a concert at Wembley Stadium in memory of Freddie. On the following day tickets were put up for sale and in just SIX hours all 72,000 of tickets were sold. On Easter Monday, April 20, 1992, many of the world’s best known musicians - among them Liza Minnelli, Elton John, Guns N’Roses, George Michael, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Metallica, Robert Plant and Def Leppard joined Brian, Roger and John Deacon on stage of Wembley Stadium to pay tribute to Freddie. With Wembley Stadium at capacity, the concert was seen by a further one billion people live on TV across the world. Proceeds of the concert were used to establish The Mercury Phoenix Trust which continues to support HIV Aids charities and organizations around the world and has to date donated more than £8 million for help and education. The members of Queen continue to be trustees along with manager Jim Beach.

Outside of The Mercury Phoenix Trust, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor helped found the Nelson Mandela 46664 HIV Aids campaign launched in 2003, to date appearing at three concerts for 46664. For last year’s World Aids Day, the band donated a special music track, “Say It’s Not True” especially written and recorded by Brian, Roger and Paul Rodgers to 46664. The track is included in the band’s forthcoming new album, “The Cosmos Rocks”.
