Guns N Roses 'Hits' Album Set For March
Posted By Ashish on 02.17.04Meanwhile the wait continues for Chinese Democracy...
Guns N Roses is set to release "Greatest Hits" on March 23rd. The album will feature 14 of the band's greatest tracks.
The band is also set to perform live at the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival in Lisbon, Portugal on May 30th. That performance will be the band's first since their disastrous 2002 comeback tour.
Meanwhile, no new updates on when "Chinese Democracy" will be released.
Here is the tracklist for "Greatest Hits":
"Welcome to the Jungle"
"Sweet Child O' Mine"
"Patience"
"Paradise City"
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
"Civil War"
"You Could Be Mine"
"Don't Cry"
"November Rain"
"Live and Let Die"
"Yesterdays"
"Ain't It Fun"
"Since I Don't Have You"
"Sympathy for the Devil"
Waar is o.a. Estranged, Locomotive, It's so Easy?

Guns N' Roses Uproar
Posted By Dana Suzanne on 02.19.04"Greatest Hits" CD Infuriates Axl Rose And Fans
On March 23, Geffen Records is set to release a Guns N' Roses "Greatest Hits" CD. However, the CD has been met with anger from both Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose and the GNR fans.
According to Billboard magazine, Guns N' Roses may pursue legal action to block the release of the upcoming CD.
The band, led by Axl Rose, did not give their consent for the "Greatest Hits" CD to move forward and is contemplating the possibility of suing the label to prevent the album from coming out.
Along with the band, a number of Guns N' Roses fans are protesting the decision by Universal Music to issue the CD without, what they say is, the approval of the band's lead singer Axl Rose, according to Australia's Undercover News.
The irate fans have started an online petition via the Guns N' Roses fan site Here Today Gone To Hell!, claiming the album's projected track listing is simply not strong enough and that it contains no new material.
According to posts in the online forum discussing the release of the greatest hits package, fans also seem to be under the impression that Universal is responsible for holding up Axl's long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy," even though the label had the album publicly listed on their release schedule as far back as September 1999 and had to withdraw the release when Rose failed to deliver the master tapes.
The "Greatest Hits" CD is set to contain the following tracks:
01. Welcome To The Jungle
02. Live And Let Die
03. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
04. Sweet Child Of Mine
05. November Rain
06. Patience
07. Paradise City
08. Civil War
09. You Could Be Mine
10. Don't Cry (original)
11. Yesterdays
12. Ain't It Fun
13. Since I Don't Have You
14. Sympathy For The DevilThis is the third archival Guns N' Roses release since last fall, when Geffen issued DVDs of the home videos "Welcome to the Videos" and the two-volume "Use Your Illusion."
Guns N' Roses will return to the live stage May 30 at the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival in Lisbon, Portugal. It will be the band's first live appearance since the group's ill-fated 2002 comeback tour, which was canceled with 13 dates remaining.

GUNS N' ROSES have filed a lawsuit against Geffen Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc., to stop the "unauthorized" release of a "Greatest Hits" package by the band. The lawsuit. which was filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, seeks a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the release.
According to the lawsuit — which was filed by W. Axl Rose and former bandmembers Slash and Duff McKagan — GUNS N' ROSES have not been given the opportunity to approve the choice of songs, the artwork, the release date or the re-mastering done on the tracks included on this compilation.
GUNS N' ROSES have sold over 80 million albums worldwide — almost 40 million in the U.S. alone — and founding member W. Axl Rose is said to be concerned that the group's audience will not only be misled into believing that the planned compilation is an authorized release, but that it will hinder the release of the band's long-awaited new studio album, "Chinese Democracy". There has been a massive outcry among the band's loyal audience against the "Greatest Hits" record, as "they too believe the track selection is fundamentally flawed, does not reflect the band's best work and is clearly not the ultimate package that would be selected by the band or their fan base if they were given the opportunity," according to an official statement from GNR's management. "They have flooded the offices of Geffen Records' senior executives with thousands of emails over the last few weeks expressing their dissent."

The U.S. District Court in L.A. turned down GUNS N' ROSES' petition today seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against Geffen Records seeking to prevent the label from releasing a greatest hits record from the band, according to Hits Daily Double. The suit claimed that GNR hasn't "been given the opportunity to approve the choice of songs, the artwork, the release date or the re-mastering done on the tracks included on this compilation." Today's decision clears the way for the album to come out as scheduled on March 23. A press statement from the band stated that the greatest hits set would "hinder the release of the band’s long-awaited new studio album 'Chinese Democracy'." Sources say that the label has advanced Axl Rose $10 million over the past six years for production of the album, which was slated to come out last year in the fourth quarter, but remains unreleased.

A Universal Music spokesman has dismissed as "meritless" the lawsuit brought by GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose against the company seeking to prevent them from releasing a "greatest hits" album. "Fortunately, since the court has denied their application for a temporary restraining order, the album will be released as scheduled on March 23," Universal's Peter LoFrumento told Reuters.
Although Geffen (a unit of Universal Music Group under Vivendi Universal) officials had no further comment on the dispute, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters that the label has been waiting seven years for Rose to deliver "Chinese Democracy" and has poured $13 million into production of that album after repeated promises that he was about to finish the project.
"Every year there's been a new reason why Axl is not done with the record," the source told Reuters, adding that Geffen went ahead with the greatest-hits package only because Rose failed to come through with "Chinese Democracy". "Had he delivered this record like he promised seven years ago, this would not be happening right now."
A representative for Rose was not immediately available for comment, according to Reuters.
- Mar. 16, 2004
Rumors of guitarist Buckethead's departure from GUNS N' ROSES have gained strength in the recent weeks, with many speculating that GNR singer Axl Rose's alleged decision to resume taking guitar lessons will result in him taking on some of the guitar duties himself during the band's upcoming live performances.
Although the GUNS N' ROSES camp has yet to make an official comment on the matter, a BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor and a previous news contributor bumped into GUNS N' ROSES keyboardist Dizzy Reed over the weekend and filed the following report:
"The after-show for [the] YNGWIE [MALMSTEEN] [concert] was held [Sunday night, March 14] at the Cat Club. The band that was playing that night was a cover band featuring Dizzy Reed on keys. During the set, they introduced Yngwie's drummer Patrick Johansson. He sat in on the drums for a rousing rendition of AC/DC's 'Dirty Deeds'.
"After the set I introduced myself to Dizzy. I had been wearing my GNR 'Chinese Democracy' shirt too! I asked him what was the status of the new album. He said that they should be releasing it this year (big surprise). I also asked him the what happened at the Philly riot show, since I was there. He said that you could thank Clear Channel for that one. I also asked him about Buckethead's status, in which he confirmed that he is unofficially out of the band."
