MARDLE SIGNS UP TO THE PREMIERSHIP OF DARTS
London darts star Wayne Mardle today announced his decision to commit to the Professional Darts Corporation.
Hawaii 501, one of the brightest young players in the game believes the PDC is the future of professional darts and is ready to take on the very best in the world.Wayne made a huge impact on the PDC scene just four months ago when he reached the quarterfinal of the Las Vegas Desert Classic, knocking out Alan The Ice Man Warriner in the first round.
The 29 year-old joins the PDC with some impressive credentials having reached the quarterfinals and semifinals of the BDO world championships in the last two years and has moved steadily up the PDC World Rankings in 2002.
It was an easy decision to take, commented Mardle. Every darts player wants the chance to compete at the highest level and that means the PDC.
The PDC provides huge opportunites throughout the year to compete on a regular basis for serious prize money and titles.
Whatever sport you play, you aspire to compete with the best. I know Im moving on to the Premiership of darts now and with some hard work over the next two months will be lining up at the PDC World Championship.
PDC Chairman Barry Hearn added:
Were delighted that someone of Waynes calibre is joining the PDC. The quality of players we have is exceptional and with new talent like Wayne coming on board the PDC really is the only show in town.

The PDC announcement welcoming a new talent in Wayne Mardle insults the player and the system within which he has played his darts.
The fact is that, such is the outstanding quality and depth of players within the British Darts Organisation playing system, he has been unable to gain enough qualifying points to be invited to the 2003 Embassy World Professional Darts Championships.
Is this the real reason why he has decided to play his darts in a less competitive system?
He was recently heard to say that qualifying for the Embassy was too hard (even though he has signed a contract to do so) whereas he could virtually walk into the PDC, who (unable to create its own talent and worried about stagnation) have relentlessly pursued him.
His remarks, if made by him, could be deemed offensive to all the BDO/WDF officials who have helped him, and the countless players who he has played, socialised with and been supported by for many years.
As an employer for some forty years, I have seen lots of people come and go on good terms, and the same applies to darts, says Olly Croft. But it is wrong to criticise your friends and colleagues and those who have supported you and provided opportunites.
Wayne has always said that the Embassy is the best Championship in world darts, but he has not qualified and has clearly been offered an easier option to play elsewhere. It wont matter whether hes got enough points, because he can choose to go into a play-off, and if that fails theres always a wild card on offer.
Hes quoted as saying hes gone to the Premiership of darts but in reality hes turned his back on the World Champions Darts League!
The PDC operates a closed system for a few players and has weakened its world titled event by adding another 8 players through qualification and wild cards. In contrast, the BDO is open, fair and competitive.
The real difference is that quality players have to get to the Embassy by right, and there are no easy options. As a result those who win it know they have reached the very pinnacle of world darts excellence. The Embassy title is the No.1 in world darts.
The BDO has total respect for its players, whether they are professionals or just starting out, and continues to go from strength to strength in producing new players at the very top world levels men, women and youth and creating more and more darts on terrestrial television.
This growth in standards and world-class darts on BBC terrestrial television, is set to get even better in 2003, because the BDO is proud to be the leading promoter in world darts, not the leading darts poacher
