Op dinsdag 6 maart 2007 15:41 schreef Tim86 het volgende:net even bij de menstennisforums gekeken hoe het ervoor staat met de deelnames:
Indian Wells (no SE spots)
OUT: Ancic, Kiefer, Gaudio, Ramirez Hidalgo, Santoro, Verkerk, Wawrinka (and Montanes, Vassallo-Arguello from ALT)
IN: F.Lopez, Greul, Pless, Phau, Kunitsyn, Gimelstob, Korolev
NEXT: Dancevic, Starace, Kendrick, Lu, Di Mauro, Llodra, Karlovic, Delic

Pacific Life Open Preview (Indian Wells, USA)It's time for the first Masters tournament of 2007, namely the Pacific Life Open, which is played in Indian Wells, USA. The tournament takes two weeks in which a total of $3,285,000 (men) and $2,100,000 (women) can be won. The surface is hardcourt. Let's start with the men's championship. Defending champion is the one and only Roger Federer who won Dubai the past week, without being in great form. The Swiss world number one has won this tournament last three times and will be looking for his fourth in a row. Of the currently active players only Hewitt was able to win it next to Federer. The Australian won it in 2002 and 2003. He will be looking for a good result as well, after showing good form by making it to the final in Las Vegas (played tonight).
The line-up in Indian Wells is impressive as always. Almost every big shot will be participating here, from Federer to Nadal, from Davydenko to Haas and from Murray to last year's finalist Blake. Of course in form players as Hewitt and Youzhny will be joining them as well. The draw hasn't been made yet, so it's difficult to predict anything. After seeing the Fed-Express out of form last week and still beating players as Youzhny and Haas with ease I honestly don't have any doubts about him. I will keep my eyes on out of form Nadal, Ljubicic, Nalbandian and Berdych (all might be early upsets) and will watch outsiders as Youzhny (does he ever get tired?), Haas, Roddick and Murray who could get very far, depending on the draw. It might also be value to lay some good claycourters in the early rounds who have just came back from playing three back to back clay tournaments in South America (some of them tired, some of them will have trouble to adjust to another surface which they fancy less).

Now let's take a look at the women's tournament. Defending champion is Maria Sharapova, who defeated Dementieva in last year's final. Sharapova hasn't played to many tournaments this year and she has really been working towards this tournament ever since the Australian Open. She lacks matches, but is adjusted to the court allready and is completely fit. Other previous winners are Clijsters (2005, 2003), Hening (2004), Hantuchova (2002), S. Williams (2001, 1999), Davenport (2000, 1997), Hingis (1998). Just as the men's tournament they have an impressive field with defending champion Sharapova, Petrova, Kuznetsova, Hingis, Dementieva, Jankovic (if she is completely recovered from her ankle injury, wouldn't bet on her in early rounds I guess), Peer and Vaidisova. Clijsters, Mauresmo and Henin will not be competing according to the tournament's website and these would have been three favorites for the title. According to the player's individual sites they are teaking a rest. I expect a lot from Sharapova this week, because when she focusses on something, she get's it. Other players I fancy in this tournament are Petrova, in form Jankovic (if she's fit), Hingis and Vaidisova. Outsiders as Safarova, Peer and Hantuchova might be able to pull off a stunt by making it to the semi's as well.

Good luck this week!
