Ik las net op www.TheOneRing.net dat Peter Jackson ooit heeft gezegd dat hij het liefst zoveel mogelijk bekende gezichten uit LOTR in The Hobbit wil hebben. Als je de tijdslijn van het boek zou aanhouden zou Aragorn 10 jaar oud zijn op het moment dat The Hobbit afspeelt. Hou je de tijdlijn uit de film aan, waar Aragorn zegt dat hij 87 is, dan zou hij wel een rol kunnen spelen. The Hobbit speelt 60 jaar voor LOTR af.

AMSTERDAM - Guillermo del Toro is in vergevorderde besprekingen om de film 'The Hobbit' te regisseren. De maker van de veelgeprezen fantasiefilm 'Pan's labyrinth' zou volgend jaar aan de slag gaan, weet het Amerikaanse filmvakblad The Hollywood Reporter.
'The Hobbit' vertelt over de geschiedenis van voor de beroemde trilogie 'The Lord of the Rings'. De verfilming van het boek van J.R.R. Tolkien zal in twee delen worden uitgebracht, maar wel in één keer worden opgenomen.
Jackson
De drie delen van 'The Lord of the Rings', die miljarden euro's hebben opgebracht, werden geregisseerd door Peter Jackson. Hij zou aanvankelijk ook 'The Hobbit' maken, maar belandde met filmproducenten New Line en MGM in een dispuut over de winstverdeling.
In december wisten de partijen tot een overeenkomst te komen.
Staking
Wegens andere verplichtingen kon Jackson de regie van de twee films uiteindelijk niet op zich nemen, maar tekende hij als uitvoerend producent. Door de langlopende staking van scenarioschrijvers in Hollywood, is er nog geen begin gemaakt met het script.
Budget
Het budget voor elk afzonderlijk deel is naar schatting ruim honderd miljoen euro. De eerste film wordt in 2010 verwacht. Een jaar later moet het tweede deel van 'The Hobbit' in de bioscoop draaien.

There was a lot of excitement back in January when it was announced that New Line Cinema was moving forward with plans for two films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" which Peter Jackson would produce and Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy") was the favorite to direct.
Then of course the Tolkien Estate filed a lawsuit against New Line Cinema, whilst New Line found itself being folded back into its parent company Time Warner. That left many asking what would happen to the films and are they still going ahead?
del Toro himself spoke with TheOneRing.net about that today - "At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do "The Hobbit." Negotiations advance but are still ongoing."
Despite the legal issues to be sorted, word is that Warners is very keen to move forward with these films. del Toro himself is taking the job very seriously - "All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to 'The Hobbit,' but as an avid reader of Mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect Cosmology forged from very eclectic sources."

TOLKIEN's novel THE HOBBIT - insisting he's the obvious candidate for the job.
McKellen, who has appeared as Gandalf in all three Lord Of The Rings films, has made no secret of his desire to land the part - even though Peter Jackson will not be directing.
Speaking exclusively to WENN, the veteran actor admitted he could not think of anyone better to play the role than himself. He said, "I certainly hope it's true - have you got anybody else who you think should be doing it?" McKellen isn't the only actor praying for a phone call to confirm his involvement in the Lord Of The Rings prequels - Elijah Wood is also desperate to revive his role as Frodo Baggins.

According to Variety, the announcement came came Thursday afternoon from executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich, and newly named MGM chief Mary Parent.
Del Toro's will move to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and Weta production teams.
He'll also direct the two films back to back with the sequel dealing with the 60-year period between "The Hobbit" and 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring".
The studios have not given a start date on production and don't yet have a script. It's widely expected that the "LOTR" scripting team of Jackson, Walsh and Philippa Boyens will collaborate with Del Toro.
The general thought is that they will start shooting next year and release the films in late 2011 and 2012.

Prep on "The Hobbit" will kick off this Summer, including the 'reforestation' of The Shire sets to look as much like they did in 'Rings' as possible.
He's already been in contact with the likes of Andy Serkis, Sir Ian McKellen, Howard Shore, John Howe, Gino Acevedo, and Richard Taylor in regards to the film to "ensure that whatever we do we keep continuity with the other films".
del Toro proudly says that he'll use as much practical filming as possible - "I would like to avoid is the recreation of the natural environments in CG, I don't like doing that. The movie is essentially a journey movie, I think you need to use locations as much as possible."
He's also very vehement about the second film, which details events between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship of the Ring", will not be an opportunistic grab - "This second film is not a 'tag on', it's not 'filler', it's an integral part of telling the story of those 50 years of history lost in the narrative. There will be certain things that we will see from the first movie but from a different point of view, but it will feel like a volume, in the five volumes of the entire story."

Ja, ik geloof dat een behoorlijk gedeelte van WETA alweer heeft toegezegd zich met iig de pre-production van The Hobbit te gaan bemoeien, dus uiteindelijk zal het wel zo worden (hopelijk!) dat een groot gedeelte van dezelfde mensen weer voor de vormgeving van The Hobbit gaan zorgen
En het is natuurlijk ook nog even afwachten in hoeverre Jackson zich gaat bemoeien met de films
