TVR factory to close
TVR today announced it is to close its Blackpool factory.

The bombshell was dropped as 71 workers were laid off by the luxury sports car maker.
Bosses at the Bispham factory said the company - owned by Russian millionaire Nikolai Smolenski - will move out in six months time.
Ian Law, spokesman for TVR, said: "The factory will be moving from its present Bristol Avenue site.
"No decision has yet been made as to where it will be moving to.
"There is a chance TVR might move out of Blackpool. We are yet to discuss the options with Mr Smolenski and we are due to have a meeting with the unions on May 3."
Andy Robertson, regional industrial organiser for the Transport and General Workers Union, said the workforce was "gutted" by the news.
He said: "I questioned the firm on the future of the site and they looked at me saying the future would not be in Blackpool.
"They added TVR would have a future, but it was not in the town.
"I'm totally gutted for the workforce. This is a quintessential sports car which will no longer be built here.
"This was the last bastion of the motorcar industry in Blackpool and in the next six months it will have disappeared.
"I understand the remaining workers will be offered a redundancy package."
Laid-off workers today slammed TVR for their tactics of handling the workforce.
Anthony Hodson, senior shop steward at the Bristol Avenue site, said: "This is a massive blow and the way management have handled it is just plain cowardly."
Neil Hughes, 50, from Bispham, who has been laid-off three times by the company, said: "I feel as though I am being victimised by the company.
"We have had no official explanation other than a letter we received whilst we were on our Easter break. This is absolutely no way to treat a loyal workforce."
Clifford Clennell, 43, a paintshop worker at TVR said: "In the 20 years I have worked at TVR I have never heard of a management with utter contempt for their workforce.
"I've no idea what the future holds now."
Union leaders are now set to meet the management in the coming weeks to discuss the possible future of the workers laid-off.

De directie heeft vorige week te kennen gegeven dat de helft van het personeel thuis kan blijven. Tot de verhuizing zullen nog twee auto’s per week in Blackpool worden gemaakt. Speculaties over een mogelijke sluiting van het bedrijf spreekt TVR tegen.
