Wie neemt er nu in fucksnaam een cd op in het Welsh?
Gelukkig is hun nieuwe cd wel weer verstaanbaar.

Super Furry Animals zijn zeer goed inderdaad... De nummers op hun albums zijn hier en daar altijd wat wisselvallig, maar er staan altijd genoeg juweeltjes op die de aankoop meer dan rechtvaardigen. Leuke band. Wil ik in ieder geval ook nog ooit eens live aan het werk zien.

stonden ze vorig jaar niet op pinkpop/?

heb ze ook al eens gezien op Crossing Border Festival in Amsterdam, en een concert van hen is zeker een aanrader.

Aahhhh........ja ik ken ze.
Zag ze een tijd geleden op CNN muziekprogramma.
De clip van Golden retriever werd uitgezonden, die pakken die ze aanhadden! Echt voor lul, maar het liedje was opzich best leuk!

Aardig concert. Mooie stem, goede sfeer. Kwam alleen niet echt helemaal los.
Heb me desondanks toch prima vermaakt. Zeker bij nummers als Juxtapose with you, deamons en de afsluiter. Ook leuk waren de stukken uit de documentaire Surplus. Einde verliep echter wat rommelig. Ineens waren ze weg en toen de zaal leegstroomde (15 min. later) waren ze weer terug en toen weer weg.

Ja, het publiek wist niet echt wat het ermee aanmoest, dat kwartiertje techno tussendoor. Was dit het al? Was het nu verder dansavond ofzo? En ineens stormden Furries het podium weer op in super harige pakken om vrolijk verder te gaan met het laatste nummer van de set The Man Don't Give A Fuck.
Jammer inderdaad dat het publiek wat afwachtend was, maar ik vond het een uitstekend concert met een leuke dosis ouwe nummers erin (Calimero! ) en die video's zijn natuurlijk meesterlijk en deden het erg goed op het grote scherm achter de band. Geweldige avond gehad! (vond La Kidda ook wel heel onderhoudend)

SUPER FURRY SAMBA

SUPER FURRY ANIMALS have finished mixing their next album in Brazil.

The Welsh quintet recently spent 20 days in Rio de Janeiro, locked in the studio with Brazilian producer Mario Caldato where they were completing the follow-up to 2003’s ‘Phantom Power’.

Caldato, who also worked on ‘Phantom Power’, helped the band recording the new LP in Cataluna, Spain, but asked the band to fly to Rio for the final mixing.

"We loved the idea of returning to Rio," singer Gruff Rhys told NME.COM. The band last visited the country in 2003 when they played in Rio with The Rapture and The White Stripes.

"Our schedule at that time was too tight, we didn't have time to see the city", Rhys explained, though this time, guided by Caldato, the band were able to see some local gigs and also a football game at Maracana stadium.

Super Furry Animals are yet to name the new album, which is due for release in May. According to Rhys, the record has an "orchestral" flavour, and will feature lead vocals from guitarist Huw 'Bunf' Bunford and drummer Daffyd Ieuan.

Rhys is to go on a short tour of his native Wales - and one show in Ireland - to promote debut solo album 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth', out next week (January 24).

As previously revealed on NME.COM, the band's label Placid Casual will release the record on January 24. Clocking in at 29 minutes and containing 11 songs, 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth' (which translates roughly as 'The Stuttering Generation') was recorded with Gorwel Owen at Stiwdio Ofn at various points between summer 2003 and spring 2004.

En wat vinden we van Love Kraft?

Erg mooie plaat wederom. Iets directer dan het soms wat voorzichtige Phantom Power (SFA blijft namelijk een band die het best is met (over)dramatiek en grootse songs) en daardoor geeft ie toch wel iets meer voldoening dan zijn voorloper.

Hebben ze dit jaar eigenlijk nog in Nederland gespeeld, of heb ik dat helemaal gemist?

Voorman Gruff Rhys heeft overigens onlangs weer een soloplaat uitgebracht, Candylion genaamd. Erg goede plaat, misschien wel beter dan de twee laatste SFA-platen.

Hey, ik wist niet dat SFA een eigen topic hadden Vorig jaar live aan het werk gezien en dat was erg entertaining, hoewel het van mij wel iets meer pit had mogen hebben. Leuke band. Die soloplaat zal ik eens checken.

De nieuwe plaat wordt in elk geval minder mellow dan de vorige paar albums. Wat mij betreft prima!

Super Furry Animals Hail Neil Diamond on New LP

Eccentric Welsh quintet Super Furry Animals are back at it with another album of skewed Britpop wonderment. And, with track titles like "'The Very Best of Neil Diamond'" and "Crazy Naked Girls", this one may be deemed wonky even by SFA standards. The as-yet-untitled release will enter the world digitally on March 16 via the band's website, before seeing a physical release on April 13 in the UK and April 21 in the U.S. via Rough Trade.

Fans of the band's mellower side may want to sit this one out. According to a statement from the band: "Even though it's still very melodic we thought we could leave off the acoustic ballads for the time being. And no country rock as Daf [Ieuan, drummer] has developed a pedal steel phobia. Which has confined the great Nashvillian instrument along with the saxophone to the banned instrument directive of the SFA board. There's only one slow number which isn't slow at all." Anyone who's seen SFA live and in person knows this band can shred-- even while wearing Power Ranger helmets.

"A euphoric glam rock stomp by Cian [Ciaran, keyboardist] that sounds as big as the title, and concerns people turning molehills into extreme sport venues."
09 Moped Eyes
"We've been playing this song live for a couple of years, it's been called 'Hot Clubs' and 'Hot Nuts' in the past. You can see a crude early version on YouTube."
10 Inconvenience
"We've been playing around with this heavy guitar riff for a few years now. It's so heavy it features both Guto [Pryce, bassist] and Bunf on two duelling bass guitars."
11 Crazy Naked Girls
"Bunf wrote this tribute to a Cardiff bar he used to drink in before re-development. It's now a block of unsold 'luxury' flats. It's a song in three parts."
12 Earth
"Anyone who attended a SFA gig on the Hey Venus! tour would know this song. It features very distinct audience participation. You can see numerous versions of it performed from Tokyo to California and beyond on YouTube ."
13 Prick
"This song is built on Cian's Moog groove and builds and builds into a great big house or castle of noise."
