JC show to lose its airfield home
BBC motoring programme Top Gear (TG) could be in trouble, according to a story in yesterday's Telegraph. At the heart of the problem is the noise and pollution caused by one J Clarkson and crew at Dunsfold Aerodrome where TG is currently located and filmed.
The problem is that Dunsfold is to be redeveloped, so the programme will have to move, with its favoured option being the airfield at Enstone, which just happens to be close to Clarkson's Cotswolds home.
However, local villagers aren't keen on the racket that'll be created, and TG doesn't yet have an alternative. Since planning permission for the kinds of usage that TG will put an airfield to takes some eight weeks, and the next series is due to start filming in May, timing is tight.
Is this the end for the JC show?

There is no threat to BBC driving series Top Gear despite a setback in finding a new location for high-speed car tests, programme makers have said.
The BBC Two show hoped to relocate from Dunsfold in Surrey to a new circuit at Enstone Airfield in Oxfordshire.
But permission to build the circuit was denied by councillors last week after concerns it would generate pollution.
"Ideally that is where we want to go but if not we will just find another location," a Top Gear spokesman said.
Homes planned
The series, which first appeared in 1977, test-drives cars and discusses motoring issues. It is currently presented by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
At present it is filmed on Dunsfold Aerodrome but programme makers need to relocate within the next three years due to plans to build more than 2,500 homes on the site.
"There is no great urgency for us to move but it would also help give the show a face lift," the Top Gear spokesman said.
"There is absolutely no threat to the show, which will return in May as planned."
Top Gear took the non-scripted entertainment prize at the International Emmys last November.
