Guys, if Rosie O'Donnell can do it, you better well fucking believe Damon Albarn is more than capable. No, the Blur/Gorillaz frontman isn't adopting a bunch of kids and developing a massive boner for Tom Cruise (that we know of). Rather, just like Rosie, he is bringing his love of theater to life. BBC News reported last week that Albarn is collaborating on a stage musical based on the London neighborhood of Notting Hill.

Hey, remember that Julia Roberts/Hugh Grant movie Notting Hill? OK, let's forget it.

According to the BBC, Albarn is working alongside award-winning British playwright Roy Williams on the musical, which is set to open at the National Theatre in 2007. The show will purportedly focus on the area's diversity and multiculturalism.

"It will allow Damon to develop his passionate interest in the many musical styles that have emerged from Notting Hill over the past four decades," National Theatre director Nicholas Hytner told the BBC. "Damon is one of the most unique and inventive musicians of the moment," he added.

As for Albarn's blurry (AHH!) plans with Blur, the band is marching forward begrudgingly without guitar hero Graham Coxon in tow. Albarn told NME late last year that the next Blur album, the follow-up to 2003's Think Tank, will be recorded without an additional guitarist. Speaking to NME, he said, "The reason why it's so basic is we decided that if we're going to make another record it's just got to be the three of us and I've got to play guitar. And because I'm such a rudimentary guitarist it has to be really stupid and basic punk rock."

Albarn is also still hard at work on his first proper solo album, which, much like Think Tank and his Mali Music side project, will have a world-beat tinge to it. "I'm halfway through a record that I started in Nigeria last year," he said.

Gorillaz were last seen being really boring at the Grammys. C'mon, even Jem had more exciting holograms than that.

Hoewel dit niet wil zeggen dat ze ook meteen gaan toeren of nieuw werk gaan opnemen, is dit toch een soort van terugkeer van een van de beste Britse bands van de afgelopen 20 jaar!

Blur viert reünie in Hyde Park

AMSTERDAM - Na jaren van speculaties is het eerste reünieconcert van Blur in de originele bezetting gepland op vrijdag 3 juli 2009 in Hyde Park te Londen.

De in 2002 vertrokken gitarist Graham Coxon is ook van de partij.

Vrijdag 12 december gaat de kaartverkoop voor dit mega-concert van start.

Het is zeker niet de enige show, vertellen Albarn en Coxon in het nieuwe nummer van muziekmagazine NME.

Zanger Damon Albarn zegt tegenover het NME: "Het voelt op de een of andere manier of er echt weer iets voor ons te doen is. We zijn niet compleet waardeloos, we hebben nog steeds bestaansrecht."

Een van de bekendste nummers van de band is Song 2.

Damon Albarn and co tell NME 'it just felt it was right again'

Blur are reforming to play live next year, NME can exclusively reveal.

The full line-up – Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree – will play their first gigs together since guitarist Coxon quit the band in 2002.

Speaking only to NME in a world exclusive joint interview, Albarn and Coxon explained that they had put their differences behind them and were looking forward to playing live in 2009.

"It just felt it was right again," declared Albarn of Blur's return. "It somehow feels like there's something for us to do again, we're not completely useless or pointless, we've got a reason to exist."

Coxon agreed, explaining the band were "making public what's been going on a little bit privately. For the benefit of the fans and those interested we can say that something's on the cards".

What is on the cards is a headlining show in Hyde Park, London on Friday, July 3.

There are also rumours of further dates, including a possible appearance at the 2009 Glastonbury festival.

However, while the band refused to confirm any other shows, Albarn promised fans around the UK that the band would be announcing some more shows.

"We'll do something in London because that seems sensible," he said, "but we're also playing in other parts of the country working up to there."
