The agent of Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists he has still to open contract talks with the Spanish giants despite the fact the player's current deal expires at the end of the season.

Casillas, 24, came through the ranks at Real and is now undisputed number one for both club and country.

However, although he has continually expressed a desire to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, he has yet to sign an extension to keep him in the Spanish capital.

Reports in Spain are now casting doubt over the custodian's future at the club, with Real having been linked with a multi-million pound swoop for Juventus star Gigi Buffon.

Casillas is now claimed to be a target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and will be eligible to talk to interested parties if he has still not put pen-to-paper on a new Real deal by January 1 2006.

His representative Gines Carvajal has conceded that talks have yet to start with Real, but is adamant the player is not looking to leave Los Merengues.

"I have not sat down with anybody to talk about Casillas' contract renewal," Carvajal told AS.

"There has not been an offer or a counter offer.

"The priority is for Iker to stay at Real Madrid.

"We are waiting for a call from the club but if Madrid don't do that before January 1 we can talk to other clubs.

"But I insist, the player wants to stay at Madrid and is willing to make a sacrifice to do so."

Although Casillas appears keen to stay put, the chance to snare one of Europe's top keepers on a free transfer is sure to appeal to Wenger, as well as a host of other top European clubs.
