Over welke film gaat dit?quote:This is a so-so thriller with a pretty boy hero going through a lot of convoluted flashbacks alaand
. I noticed a taste of
in the mix too. This movie has good suspense right up until the end where it just kinda goes limp without delivering the goods in a most pathetic manner. It replaced intelligence with obscurity since the writers only had the latter as a tool for plot development. Basically you are left wondering - huh? And .. do I even care what the real deal is with this story or is there even a cohesive story to be uncovered here? Or is it just some dumb ending slapped on the end in an attempt to tie up the hundreds of loose ends this weird script leaves hanging?
quote:The periphery characters all do a sterling job at providing a sense of unease (is pretty outstanding), but after
has "switched" years several times, I found it difficult to retain my attention. By the final denouement, I was past caring, and noticed only with a passing interest that the ending was incredibly similar to another memory-loss psychological thriller from the mid-nineties.
quote:Like with, another film dealing with memory loss, it takes some time to get used to the storytelling. The main reason is that no one explains nothing at first... clues come all along the movie up until the end. You're not taken by the hand and shown anything. Like the main character, you're thrown in the story with no real point of reference and it takes some adjusting.
But that's also what makes the movie interesting. The ending can be perceived as weak if you're watching it like a thriller but if you're looking at it from a psychological point of view, it's really impressive what our minds can do and the mysteries still to unlock in our own brains.
The acting is pretty good (exceptwho is not good enough to be creepy or believable as anything else than a goodie-2-shoes) and the direction is SUPERB.
Don't misunderstand, the tension IS there so you'll get your thrills but it's not a mystery movie so much as a psychological drama about denial and acceptance. In the end that's all there is to it.
Don't take my word for it... check it out as soon as you can.

quote:A man () awakens from a coma, not remembering any events from the past two years. He doesn't recognize his evil wife (played deliciously by
), or his alleged mistress (the lovely but miscast
). He soon suspects that someone in the hospital is trying to kill him--and then finds himself in the same hospital two years earlier, with the ability to bounce back and forth between the two time periods.
Although it sounds like something that has been done many times recently, the first half of this movie is actually suspenseful and engaging. Unfortunately, with a plot twist, the movie goes downhill about halfway through. While the movie will keep you thinking for a while afterwards, it is ultimately forgettable because it is way too typical of the current crop of sci-fi "memory" thrillers.is great here--she gets to play a shy mousy nurse in 2000 and then a malicious blackmailing wealthy woman in 2002.
is one of the best actresses of her generation, and I'm not sure why she's in this movie.
delivers the expected humdrum performance.

The Jacket?
quote:In 2004, a film was released that starred a 'Pretty Boy' actor going back and forth in his memories and thinking he just may affect the past. That film was "The Butterfly Effect". And while this film certainly feels like that one, this seems to have better acting, while that one had a super high polished, glossy charm. I enjoyed both of them, too bad that this one only got a television premiere (in the States, at least) Whenever I see, I'm always endlessly fascinated by how much she looks like a girl I know, but that's neither here nor there. I'd recommend this flick.

Helena Bonham Carter in The Planet of the Apes
Miranda Otto in The War of the Worlds
Elisha Cuthbert - The Girl Next Door
Maria Bello - Assault on Precint 13
Julia Stiles - Save the last dance?
Hier valt maar één ding aan toe te voegen... Een puntquote:Op woensdag 20 juli 2005 12:20 schreef twentemeisje het volgende:
