The departures of Stuart Taylor to Aston Villa and Graham Stack on loan over the summer has left the Frenchman with only Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia as his recognised keepers.
On Sunday Wenger admitted that Uruguayan international Sebastian Viera was among his options. Speaking exclusively to Arsenal.com this afternoon, the Frenchman did not name names but he did reveal the deal would be concluded quickly and the new keeper would challenge the present incumbents for their spots in the first team squad.
“Certainly I will bring in another goalkeeper,” said Wenger. “That should be decided tomorrow or Friday.
“You don’t take a goalkeeper to sit on the bench, you take them to challenge everybody. That is what we intend to do. It is fair competition.
“At the moment Lehmann is No 1 in my opinion but we live in a competitive world and everybody accepts that you are only as good as your last game. You always have to prove yourself again.”

FOOTBALL SPY: WENGER DRIVES BENTLEY OUT OF HIGHBURY
EXCLUSIVE
By John Cross
ENGLAND Under-21 striker David Bentley has asked for a transfer after getting frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities with Arsenal.
Bentley, 20, is the latest home-grown player to become fed up with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger not giving him a chance.
And it comes as Arsenal yesterday agreed a new six-year deal with Spanish teenager Cesc Fabregas who they poached from Barcelona two years ago.
It is a bitter blow for Bentley who spent last season on loan at Norwich believing he would be able to push his claims for a chance at Arsenal.
But Bentley has returned to Highbury and found himself relegated back to the reserves without much prospect of forcing his way into the Arsenal side.
Wenger has a long list of strikers with Thierry Henry, Jose Antonio Reyes, Robin van Persie and Dennis Bergkamp and Bentley cannot see a way through. It has left him believing his future is away from Highbury even though he only signed a five-year contract just a year ago.
Crystal Palace have made an enquiry about a loan deal but Bentley would welcome a chance with a Premiership club and West Ham have shown early interest.
Bentley, who has started just one Premiership game for Arsenal, is the latest in a long line of home-grown youngsters who have felt they did not get a fair chance at Arsenal.
Keeper Stuart Taylor joined Aston Villa this summer, Steve Sidwell moved to Reading while former trainee David Livermore is set to join Southampton from Millwall for £500,000.
But Wenger continues to bring in foreign stars and yesterday tied down midfielder Fabregas to a long-term deal.
Arsenal also completed the signing of Cameroon youngster Alexander Song, 18, from French club Bastia.
