The Prince's Trust has cancelled its annual Party in the Park concert in London to make way for a possible Live Aid II event.
Live Aid organiser Bob Geldof has so far denied there would be such a concert, billed as Live 8.
But the BBC said it was in "discussions" with Geldof to screen the concert from Hyde Park on 2 July.
Acts linked with the concert include U2, the Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney and Joss Stone.
Chief executive of The Prince's Trust, Martina Milburn, said it was "delighted to support Live 8", and that Party in the Park would return next year.
The concert is expected to support the Make Poverty History campaign, highlighting the situation of millions of children who are dying because of poverty every year.
Artists including U2, Keane and McFly have been lending their support to the cause, and concerts have been organised in cities around the world as part of the campaign.
Washington gig
Although Geldof has played down reports of a Live Aid concert, his spokespeople confirmed there were discussions about holding shows to raise awareness of Africa's plight.
An announcement is expected in the next few days about the Live 8 concert in London. A similar event may also take place on the same day in Washington.
The original Live Aid concert was held in 1985 at Wembley Stadium, and in Philadelphia.
The latest concert would co-incide with the G8 conference being held in Scotland, where the heads of the world's largest economies will discuss alleviating debt.

Zij liever dan ikquote:An air of excitement was building early because U2 revealed backstage that it will perform at the just-confirmed 20th anniversary of Live Aid in London on July 2. "We're looking forward to it. We definitely want to be a part of it," said bassist Adam Clayton, adding that the group has a show in Vienna that night, but would play earlier in the day.

quote:He said he'd never do it, but 20 years after Sir Bob Geldof put on the biggest concert the world's ever seen, it's happening all over again.
On July 2nd London's Hyde Park will be one of the five venues hosting Live 8. The other cities where Live 8 concerts will take place are Berlin, Paris, Rome and Philadelphia.
Unlike the original Live Aid in 1985, it's not a charity event, but aims to draw attention to world poverty. It's being called Live 8 because the world's richest countries are meeting at the G8 summit a week later.
Bob Geldof said of Live 8:
"Charity will never really solve problems. It is time for justice - and 20 years after Live Aid, people now demand it of these eight men. The G8 leaders have it within their power to alter history."
Ticket details
Tickets for the London Hyde Park concert will be free and will be available through a special text lottery.
More details will be released at 8am on Monday 6 June. Radio 1 will bring you the latest news on this.
The BBC and Live 8
Radio 1 will be broadcasting from Hyde Park throughout the day and then crossing to the States to bring you the event live. Plus we'll have news and reports from the other concerts round the world.
On television Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton will also be reporting live from different sides of the Atlantic, with Jonathan in the UK and Graham in the USA.
Big screens will be placed around the UK, to bring the BBC coverage of Live 8 to those unable to attend the concert or watch at home.
