19.03.2005 A MESSAGE FROM MOTORPSYCHO
To psychonauts, journalists and whoever else it might concern.
As of March 2005 Håkon Gebhardt is no longer a member of Motorpsycho. He feels his involvement with Motorpsycho has reached its natural conclusion, and prefers to continue his work with HGH and the various other projects he has been involved in since the last Motorpsycho album and proper tour in 2002. There is no animosity between Geb and the band, we are still the best of friends, and Motorpsycho wishes him all the best in his new musical pursuits.
Hans Magnus 'Snah' Ryan and Bent Sæther fully intend to keep on being Motorpsychos, and are currently hard at work writing new material.
No replacement for Geb is yet confirmed.
When the motorpsycho system is running, it is an all-absorbing process for everyone. When the time came to start working on material for the next album, Geb found that his heart wasn't in it, that he didn't have the energy required, and decided to leave. Being the gentleman he is, he recognised his inability to fully commit to the band and did the right thing. Over the last years he's found other outlets for his creativity that are closer to what he really wants to do in music, and I know he feels - like we do - that if you're not 100% dedicated, you might as well leave it alone. Snah and I respect, understand and under the circumstances agree to his decision: any band needs to fire on all plugs to work, everything else is just a waste of time for everyone. We will obviously miss him, though. He was very important in shaping Motorpsycho as we know it over the last 14 years, and whoever replaces him has some enormous shoes to fill.
Motorpsycho has no touring commitments to fulfill at the moment, and it's impossible to set an E.T.A. on the next Motorpsycho album right now. We have to get our heads around this before anything can happen. It'll take some time, but we have full confidence in our ability to keep the band going and to do it right. Both Snah and I feel that Motorpsycho still is a valid creative force and will dedicate all our energy to keeping it that way.
Gebhardt will tour Germany with HGH in April.

Toch wel behoorlijk slecht nieuws naar mijn idee. Ik had al zo'n voorgevoel dat de band ermee zou kappen, en nou dus dit. Ik zie niet in hoe ze Gebhart kunnen vervangen. Man, ondanks dat ik die band iets van tien keer heb gezien zat ik me er al weer enorm op te verheugen om ze weer es in aktie te zien. Ik ben benieuwd wat ze nu gaan doen en hoe het allemaal uit zal pakken.

Da's wel jammer! Maar de band kapt er gelukkig nog niet mee. De kern van Motorspycho blijft gewoon nog bestaan.
Erg jammer, wellicht deels ook een verklaring voor het feit dat er geen "echt" Motorpsycho album sinds 2002 meer is uitgekomen... (sowieso was die Fishtank EP ook al in 2002 opgenomen, en Int. Tussler Society is toch een heel ander beestje). Ik hoop maar dat er nog ooit nieuw materiaal uitkomt, want het duurt allemaal wel lang zo. En de tijd zal ons leren in hoeverre het vertrek van Geb de koers van MP zal beinvloeden.
Aan de andere kant, wellicht zal Stickman Records om de tijd te overbruggen naar een nieuw MP-album eindelijk die al tijden geleden beloofde live-DVD uitbrengen. Of een re-release van This is Motorpsycho of zo.

Hmm, jij weet wel een positieve draai aan dit nieuws te brengen. Stickman aan de slag, Motorpsycho rustig op zoek naar een nieuwe drummer en over een tijdje gewoon weer een briljant album uitbrengen!

shit da's wel jammer inderdaad, ik vond hem live altijd een genot om naar te kijken en te luisteren. Gelukkig gaat de band wel door, en ik ben erg benieuwd in welke richting ze nu gaan.

Ik vroeg me de laatste tijd wel eens af of motorpsycho ons nog wel zou kunnen verrassen. Ja dus !
Ik vind het toch zeker jammer dat hij de band heeft verlaten, maar misschien geeft dit de band weer een nieuwe impuls.
Misschien een album met een groter Deathprod aandeel ? Van mij hoeven ze niet zo te "rocken".

En ik begin ze ook wel een beetje te missen ondertussen. Hopelijk zijn ze nu gewoon een hoop werk aan het opsparen om straks met een aantal nieuwe releases kort na elkaar te komen.
