The acting is superb right down to the smallest roles. is excellent as the cowboy who knows what is happening is wrong but is powerless to stop it. gives a heart wrenching performance as the doomed and and Ford (brother of John Ford) also stand out in their respective roles. In fact Ford's performance is hardly ever mentioned in reviews of this film. He really evokes pity in his portrayal of the senile old man who "doesn't want to die". Hell, the studio didn't even see fit to give him billing in the credits.
