The Darkness stormed the Brits, taking three awards, but the night was not just about the glam-rock revivalists.
Beyonce Knowles, who won best international female, turned heads as she arrived.
No Doubt's Gwen Stefani joined Missy Elliot (behind) and Alicia Keys (out of view) to perform Prince's song Kiss.
Muse came away empty-handed - but performed their track Hysteria.
Busted stole away with British breakthrough and pop act - and performed The Undertones' Teenage Kicks.
Soberly-dressed Justin Timberlake also picked up two awards. "Stick with me - we've got depression and drug addiction to go through," he joked.
Duran Duran took the applause when they won the outstanding achievement award.
Dido won two awards - but had to thank the audience by video. She dropped out of the awards to concentrate on her tour and recording her new album.

Peter Andre takes 'worst' music award
Singer Peter Andre has been "honoured" for his outstandingly bad contribution to music at the Naomi Awards, a cheeky alternative to the Brit Awards.
Atomic Kitten were named worst British group, while Gareth Gates won worst British single for Spirit in the Sky.Other "winners" included Kym Marsh (worst British female) and David Sneddon for worst British album.
Former Five member Abs received the title of worst male, while Daniel Bedingfield was given the "special" award for worst British attempt at rock for I Can't Read You.
And it was a double win for The Cheeky Girls - worst international group and worst international album for Party Time.
Young group Blazin' Squad were named least convincing urban act.
