'Alexander' met Colin Farell als bi-wereldheerser!

You know the whole point of taking risky roles is to be - well, risky. Colin Farrell has made headlines this year for taking on two bisexual film characters in a row, and yet whilst initial plans may have had an edge, judging by the final product one can hardly tell there was anything controversial to begin with.

If the cutting of the "Home at the End of the World" penis scenes didn't get gossip columns over the world excited, along comes a report today from MSNBC claiming that one of the reasons for the three week delay of Oliver Stone's "Alexander" is that executives at the studio want to cut some of the film’s male-on-male love scenes.

An insider says "Alexander was almost certainly bisexual, and [director] Oliver Stone wanted to portray that. So there are scenes between Colin and women, but there’s also some passionate scenes between Colin and Francisco Bosch. Some of the suits at Warner Bros. think that the movie-going public just isn’t ready to see that. There’s some pretty heated arguments going on over it".

Bosch plays the Persian eunuch Bagoas who many historians believe was one of Alexander’s long-term lovers. When contacted though, a WB spokesman claims to know nothing about any such controversy - "we wouldn’t talk about anything involving the process of making a movie".

In better news, a new trailer has launched at Coming Soon and whilst the teaser was a little underwhelming, this baby is vastly improved and looks sweet in any case.

Als ze die scênes eruit halen is dat echt laf, al kan ik het wel snappen in financieel opzicht. Maar als je homo-liefde meer geaccepteerd wil maken, dan is zo'n blockbuster als deze een prachtige zet... en wellicht doet de ophef die het zal veroorzaken de opbrengst wel heel goed! (ondanks de homofoben die de film dan juist niet meer willen zien)

Bovendien zat ik me juist zo te verheugen op Colin in een goede gay-lovescene! Snik...

There's something about a bleached-blond uncut Irishman playing Greek and heavily macking on a Englishman playing a Persian whose balls have been cut off that's just, at least on a curiosity level, fascinating. Still, whether the love scenes be as hot and heavy as the two "Bound" chicks or the most awkward smooching on-screen since Richard Gere and Jodie Foster in "Sommersby", the scenes apparently will be left in after all.

Late last week MSNBC reported that one of the reasons for the delay of Oliver Stone's "Alexander" would be to cut out the gay love scenes between history's most famous bisexual - Alexander the Great (Colin Farrell) and his male lover, the Persian eunuch Bagoas (Francisco Bosch).

Now, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Production Jeff Robinov said in a statement e-mailed to The Scoop - "That is completely untrue, Warner Bros. Pictures is proud of "Alexander" and thinks it is an exceptional piece of filmmaking. We've moved the release date, as we said earlier, to position it better for Academy consideration. We also want to allow ourselves more time to complete some of its ambitious visual effects. Any speculation that the Studio is trying to cut scenes from "Alexander" based on their depiction of the sexual relationships of the lead character is false and does not accurately represent the content of the film, which portrays Alexander the Great as heroic, and a man of his time and culture".

Volgens mij ga ik me zwaar irriteren aan haar. Haar accent is zo teringnep; gelukkig speelt ze Alexander z'n moeder en verschijnt alleen in flashbacks.

Ik heb het gelezen... de slechte reviews. Hoop dat ze er geen verstand van hebben, of dat de film nog wordt verbeterd...
