With the victory of "Coppa Italia" in l996, Bati, already revered by the "tifosi", became the city hero. His face, his name, his images celebrating his goals you may find them in key chains, shirts, t-shirts, scarfs, mugs, glasses, hats and so on. A perfume and a line of body products sell world wide carries his name.
The day Bati scored his 100 goals in serie A, l00 soccer balls were thrown into the pitch while the "tifosi" showed a giant sign which expresses the city, the "tifosi's" thoughts:

Io sto segnando e sto andando un pò meglio. Abbiamo cambiato anche noi l'allenatore, quello precedente è partito ed è andato via da solo. Non è stato licenziato. BUENOS AIRES - Gabriel Batistuta (35) heeft zijn zinnen gezet op een olympisch avontuur. De Argentijn wil als dispensatiespeler mee naar Athene.
