The latest information seems to nearly confirm the development of a new LSL game with a release date of late 2004. We've also gotten insider confirmation that the game is planned for not just the PC, but also the PS2 and XBox gaming consoles! About the only thing that is missing is a public announcement from Sierra / Vivendi - which we expect may be coming shortly!
It also appears that the new game will be set in a college, and may be titled "Magna Cum Laude".
Also worth mentioning is the recent merger of Vivendi Universal Entertainment (parent of Sierra games) and NBC (owned by parent company General Electric). While the majority of the assets of these two companies are to be merged to form a new media company, Vivendi's game companies (including Sierra games) are apparently NOT being included. Vivendi Universal will maintain control of both their game and music divisions. This is somewhat interesting as the game companies (Blizzard Entertainment, Sierra Entertainment, and Black Label Games) were being offered for sale as part of a debt-reduction plan just last year. What is unclear is whether these companies will continue to operate as usual, or perhaps be sold separately at a later date. Unfortunately, it is entirely impossible to speculate how this latest news may impact the hopes for a new Leisure Suit Larry game, but we are continuing to look in to the matter, and will report back as soon as there is a theory!
