I read through the comments people have made, and most people tend to discuss the character depth, 
, the violence/graphic-ness of the film, it's lack of a happy ending and the plot/story. In order to give myself some direction in figuring out how I feel on this film, I might as well approach the same topics:
Character- One viewer put it well when they said something about not remembering the characters' names because you haven't learned anything about them anyway. You don't, really. The casting didn't bother me too much- although it was weird seeing the chic from American Pie in a and I found myself calling character because I couldn't re-member his name. didn't bother me either. Although it wasn't a stellar performance, his accent did help me to remember his character and set him apart from the other offi-cers. I do have to applaud the actors that we usually see in money-making comedies for taking on such serious roles.

I think what bothered me the most was some of the dialog. At times it seemed to drag out. Other times I could have sworn they (the actors) were having a contest to see who could say their line the fastest, and the most monotone. I think another contest that was going on was to see which actor could get the last word in before the director said "cut". Like I said, some dialogs seemed to drag on, and the characters are talking a lot, but they're not really saying anything. I think that was what bothered me the most.

The film is blunt in its no-holds-barred approach, & despite of the ending's attempt at a poetic touch, effective in getting & holding your attention. Those associated with the film are to be credited & lauded for making the story stand-out above star-recognition. Some scenes are so well shot as if they were stage pieces, effectively heightening the emotional impact of these scenes.

This is truly one film I would recommend, to get beyond the political, historical storytel-ling, & to go beyond to really take deep gut-wrenching view of the result of such crimes against humanity. You see the direct results of the violence, but you also see a more complex story of the repercussions of choices made, & a questioning of the cost & meaning of survival.

To those who were struck by the visual extremities of this movie, I can see why this moved you, either critically (against ) or compassionately, although I would hazard a guess that you've never seen any serious newsreel footage of the real thing.
But.
I only picked up both these things from the previous posts I saw here. Cause I didn't get them from the movie.
It is basically a series of horrific scenes interspersed by dialogues and, yes, monologues. Bad ones. Pauses that go on FOREVER. Ssssssloooooowwww camera pans over nothing stopping on nothing. Tension building or fatuous pretense? You decide.
I will admit that I was confused with most of the movie. It is my bad that my mind drifted during interminable scenes of talking heads, especially when it was speaking with the first Brooklyn German accent I've ever heard. He makes Dennis Hopper in 24 look like a skilled linguist.
