Microsoft CEO confirms a Japanese release date for the Xbox2 and snubs Sega once again...

Speaking to the respected Japanese business publication - the Nihon Keizai Shimbun Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft, shed some interesting information on Xbox2 and Microsofts interest in Sega.

Ballmer re-iterated the fact that Microsoft had taken over the No.2 spot in terms of worldwide sales, and remained bullish about Japan despite the failure of the Xbox. Ballmer claimed that lessons have been learned and that Microsoft are thinking of services that will appeal more to the Japanese market, for when Microsoft plan to launch the Xbox2 in spring 2006.

This is the clearest indication of a firm release date that weve had yet, presumably setting the course for both Sony and Nintendo as well.

Ballmer went on to announce that Microsoft currently have no plans to acquire Sega, denying recent talk that the US giant was looking to purchase some parts of Sega.

Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

Having tantalisingly teased us with the announcement that Splinter Cell 2 would be announced prior to E3, it was both surprising and disappointing to be told that this would not be the case, as UbiSoft seemingly backed away from a heavyweight knockout against Solid Snake in the latest chapter of the legendary Metal Gear Solid series.

Thankfully UbiSoft today put us out of our misery by confirming the multi-format title and announcing the first details.

Going by the name of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and not Splinter Cell: Shadow Strike as had originally been believed, the sequel will feature all-new multiplayer online missions a first for the stealth genre and certainly helping to put one in the eye of Solids impressive comeback.

Unfortunately Ubi declined from offering any other details at this moment, besides from a release date pencilled in for Q1 2004; hopefully it wont take too long before Ubi decide to divulge more information.
