IGN Review van Wario World:

Closing Comments
I have to admit that I left the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2003 with little care for Wario World. Maybe it was because I only had a few minutes with it at a time, or the fact that it was shown in an environment where I couldn't fully see or hear it well, but it just seemed so standard, so boring. The good news, though, is that my impression of the game was wrong. Wario World has turned out pretty well, I think. It doesn't push any boundaries as far as platformers go, but thanks to some great control mechanics and inventive level work I had a great time playing through it. Meanwhile, the visual and audio work both impresses and underwhelms at points. The big problem is that the game is over far too quickly -- about five hours if you try to whip through it and a bit more if you go for all the treasures to unlock the unnecessary WarioWare samples.
Also, is there any good reason why this game -- from Treasure -- doesn't have a multiplayer mode of any kind?

Like Luigi's Mansion, what's there is good. I just wish there was more of it. I can definitely recommend Wario World as a great rental. But anybody interested in buying it should consider just how quickly it's all over.

Presentation

Odd, over-the-top presentation includes slick, but goofy menu system, a good helping of Wario humor and GBA downloads. 8.0

Graphics

Very pretty at points and underwhelming others; one boss is bump-mapped and surrounded by particles while the worlds a low-polgyon and sometimes blurry. 7.0

Sound

Funky, Wario-ized tunes and crisp voice work. The problem is that the one-liners are constantly repeated. 7.0

Gameplay

Fun, but fairly standard platformer; great control mechanics, quirky level design, lots of variety, but not too difficult 7.0

Lasting Appeal

Can be beaten in five hours; no multiplayer mode; GBA downloads are more gimmick than anything else. 4.0

OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 7.1
