Voor de duidelijkheid: Rhapsody is een band die symphonische metal maakt met teksten die op een apart verhaal (dat een beetje op In de Ban van de Ring lijkt) is gebasseerd, misschien een extra reden waarom ik het zo mooi vind....

Rhapsody!
Een tijd terug (jaar ofzo denkik) besloot ik Symphony Of Enchanted Lands 's te luisteren, en dat beviel heel goed. Je moet er alleen wel even voor gaan zitten en de tijd er voor nemen.
Dawn of Victory vind ik zelf nog beter dan Symphony. Ik weet niet hoe de 1e cd klinkt, dus die zal ik binnenkort maar 's meenemen.
ik zet et volume altijd voluit als ik rhapsody draai (zie ook het 'waar maak jij je buren mee gek' topic ergens op dit forum)

Ik had eerst Symphony Of The Enchated Lands gekocht en vond het wel leuk. Maar Dawn Of Victory vind ik echt heel goed.

Hey, jullie moeten eens naar de laatste 2 albums van Virgin Steele luisteren... zit een beetje tussen Rhapsody en Manowar in (ok, iets meer richting Manowar). Gaat over Griekse tragedies.... Het is moeilijke muziek maar wel cool... Heet "House of Atreus" en dan heb je Act I en Act II..
@ Witchfynder (zei toch dat ik het erop zou zetten PPPPPP)Luca Turilli, de gitarist van Rhapsody heeft ook een heel gaaf album onder zijn naam, met een andere band, dat Kings of the Nordic Twilight heet. Hier staan ook nummers die hij heeft geschreven net als bij Rhapsody. Zelf vind ik Rhapsody mooier, maar hijs ook erg goed.

"I'm not sure whether this is supposed to be a full album, or a mini-album, but the seven tracks last a little over 40 minutes, so for fans of bombastic and theatrical heavy metal there's plenty to enjoy, though if this is, indeed, supposed to be a full album, 40 minutes is on the short side.
Though you're probably aware that this is not the kind of music RockNet usually focuses on, I can listen to "Rain Of A Thousand Flames" quite well. I have always liked the use of choirs, and bombastic instrumental passages have always gone down well with me too, ever since - let's say - Queensryche's "Suite Sister Mary". It gives the music an epic feel, and this feel is strengthened even more by the lyrical themes, and even the cover art work.
The title track kicks off the 40 minutes in a fairly fast and furious manner. The chorus is actually a bit of a Helloween-ish theme, but the song oozes power from every pore. Good vocals, excellent drums, and said broad orchestration and choirs. "Deadly Omen" is an instrumental of little under 2 minutes to work the way to the amazing "Queen Of The Dark Horizons". This song is actually a mini album within this mini album. Clocking nearly 14 minutes, all the elements that are scattered throughout this recording in its entirety are crammed together. I especially like the great piano part in this tune. In composing this tune, the band used the main theme to Dario Argento's horror movie "Phenomena" by the Italian composer 'Goblin'.
This is not the only stolen theme... A little onwards you'll run into Antonin Dvorak's "New World Symphony"; or rather pieces of it, interwoven into the song "The Wizard's Last Rhyme". Both themes have been integrated into the original material really well, and truly add to the atmosphere.
Nothing but compliments for the musicians, production and material. Everything sounds like it's what they naturaly do. I am not familiar with earlier Rhapsody work, but this sounds confident and intelligent.
Two drawbacks, the vocals are really cool, but that typical heavy metal vibrato in the lead vocals tends to wear me out some after a while. Another minor drawback is the abundance of spoken words. This is cool in a song or two, but there's a little too much of it here to my taste.
Other than that, this is a good metal album, and though I'm not much of a metal fan, this is certainly a record that I'll pull out from the shelves a couple more times the next weeks at least."
